The 08th MS Team follows the story of a regular soldier, Shiro Amada, and his unit in the One Year War.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, tells the story of the Earth Federation forces fighting the Zeon forces in South East Asia. Despite past trends of Gundam series succeeding its predecessor by going forward in the future, the 08th MS Team is focused on the Primary conflict in the Universal Century, the One Year War. Specifically the story is situated around the 08th MS Team, and a young man named Shiro Amada who leads them. The 08th MS Team is part of the Kojima Battalion which operated in the theater against the Zeon resistance. At this point in the war the Zeon are starting to lose a foothold on Earth and are generally seen as the weaker of the beligerents.
What hope remains of Zeon being a threat on Earth lies in the development of experimental mobile weapons. Ginias Sahalin heads the development of one of these mobile weapons, and if made completely operational could be a major threat to the Earth Federation Forces in the region. The test pilot of the mobile armor is Aina Sahalin, Ginias' sister, and eventually the love interest of Shiro Amada.
The love that forms between Aina and Shiro creates a catalyst between the lovers respective sides. Shiro is suspected of spying on the enemy, and Aina is faced with ridicule from their brother, the adversity they face only drives them from their allegiances.
An Earth Federation soldier that began his war on Side 2. His past haunts him from that battlefield, but few details are ever explained throughout the course of the series. He is assigned command of the 08th MS team, and excels in his adversity to prove himself as a capable commander both inside and out of battle. However he becomes torn between his allegiance when he falls in love with Aina Sahalin, an officer in the Zeon Army.
A veteran in the war, Sanders is doubtful of his ability as a mobile suit pilot. Other soldiers who know of him call him "The Reaper" due to his past history of being a jinx to his previous units; Sanders' past units have all died with the exception of himself, and he fears he will get the 08th MS Team killed as well.
Karen is an aggressive individual, known to be rough with her own unit. It has been said that the last commander had a mental breakdown due to her treatment of him.
Eledore is a womanizer, and hopes to one day become a musician. He is the primary operator of the Teams Type 74 Hover Truck, tasked with listening for any enemy communications or movements with the sound equipment.
Michel is often more focused on writing to his girlfriend up in space than at the battle on hand. He was sent to Earth on the same transport as Shiro Amada and was tasked to assisting Eledore in the Hover Truck.
The Zeon military is fighting a losing battle in the Asian theater and with the crushing blow of Odessa in the west sends even larger tremors for the Zeon in the region. Their hopes are built around the development of the mobile armor, believed to be strong enough to stop the Federations advance.
Ginias Sahlin carries a prestigious family name in the Principality of Zeon and is the creator of the mobile armor that the Zeon in the region has put their hopes on. Though the development of the weapon has seen its share of delays and issues, Ginias only grows more excentric in completing the weapon.
Aina is the sister of Ginias and the test pilot of the mobile armor. Aina is conflicted after being twiced saved by Shiro Amada and begins to hate the conflict. Despite her work in her brother's project she has grown sick of war.
