A transfer student and one of Kenichi's first friends.
Making friends her own age has often been a struggle for Miu. A schoolmate once suggested to her that this was because she stood out too much, due to her beauty, athletic and martial arts prowess. As a result, Miu took to wearing glasses and tying her hair in a long pigtail, so as to blend in more.
Shy and virtually friendless, she approaches the similarly awkward Kenichi at the start of the series so as to befriend him. She inducts Kenichi into the world of martial arts to help him deal with the bullies that beset him. First, she teaches him some moves and principles of martial arts, then later introduces him to her home, the Ryozanpaku dojo where several of the world's greatest martial artists live and train, inlcuding her grandfather Hayato Furinji.
Amongst the series' teenage cast, Miu is by far and away the most powerful fighter, at least until the Yomi arc begins and even then she is regarded as exceptional. Her fantastic prowess comes from her early childhood, when she travelled the world and trained with her grandfather, a man alternatively known as "the Invincible Superman" or "the Man with No Peers", who is also suggested to be the world's greatest living fighter. Hayato called their quest a journey to 'right the world,' as he brought Miu with him as he fought injustice whereever he found it, instilling in her both great skill and an unwavering sense of right and wrong.
As a result, despite her social shyness, Miu always stands up to injustice wherever she encounters it, a trait that Kenichi admires and aspires to. Outside of battle, Miu is very gentle and easygoing, and has a great, almost obsessive love of cats. She is responsible for most of the domestic chores at Ryozanpaku, such as cooking and cleaning, as well as maintaining the dojo's bills.
Over the course of the series, she's become somewhat popular amongst her peers. This is mostly amongst the boys however, as girls still tend to remain hostile towards her.
