Mew(three)?
Mew(three)?

So this isn't exactly a rant about Mewtwo's new form or anything, it's more of a conversation I wanted to share with you guys... I just found out about this Mewtwo form today and I told my roommate about it. Here's what happened:

Me: Hey! Have you seen this?
Roommate: Oooh! Female form of Mewtwo!
Me: No. That is Mewtwo... or his evolution rather.
Roommate: Oh! That's even better!
Me: No it's not! Mewtwo doesn't need a new form.
Roommate: Why not?
Me: He's a clone of Mew! What is he, Mewthree?
Roommate: ...
Me: Plus, look at his head!
Roommate: Bigger brain?
Me: No! That's his tail...
Roommate: Oh you're right.
Me: The guy now thinks with his ass!
Roommate: [laughs]
Me: Plus, HE'S A CLONE! How does a clone evolve? They can't!
Roommate: Yes they can! Last night we went to the movies and watched a whole movie about how clones evolve... (Tom Cruise's Oblivion)

We ended up laughing about the whole thing, but I'm not wrong... After so many years Mewtwo comes back and evolves into this??? What do you guys think about this revelation?

It might be Mewtwo's alternate form.

I thought it was already confirmed by Corocoro that this was an alternate form?

So, this version wears its tail on its head?

I'm sticking by what I said when I first heard about this - it should be Mewthree, not an alternate form for Mewtwo. It should have been a second attempt at cloning Mew, and Mewtwo should have found it causing havoc and kicked it's sorry ass.

I actually like this idea... Can you please become a consulant for Pokemon properties please.

It actually looks like an evolved form of Mew, t

@sora_thekey: Oh man, if only. The first thing I'd do is ditch the idea of multiple forms, at least in regards to old Pokémon. Actually, I don't mind alternate evolutions for old Pokémon, provided that Pokémon already had an evolution. Bellossom, for example, I'm okay with.

@Daniel_Newton: Okay, now I'm confused... I thought multiple forms were alternate evolutions.

Now if this were true, i would be okay with that, because that would explain why the clone and this Mewthree look so much alike.

@sora_thekey: Nah, Mewtwo doesn't evolve into that new one, it's an alternate form. In the games, the Pokémon with different forms typically take on a specific form in a specific game. The different forms usually alter the stats, so one form might be more offensive while another might be defensive.

It's better than Mewtwo evolving, but I still don't like it. Mewtwo was supposed to be the ultimate Pokémon. Having alternate forms diminishes that, in my eyes.

@sora_thekey: IDK if you've played Pokemon Platinum

When you first meet Giratina it's in Orgin form inside Distortion world; however when you capture it, it's form changes and it grows feet until you get that orb.

It hasn't evolved or anything, the features just altered.

I actually like the design, I am just not so keen on the idea of this being Mewtwo. Don't really think Mewtwo needs an evolution or new forme. Wish they could stop with this whole forme thing and just focus on creating new Pokemon.

Nah, not really. Unlike evolutions, forme changes are reversable so even if Pokemon changes its forme, it can still go back to what it was before.

Like Digimon?!?

Is that when all this nonesense started? The last Pokemon game I played was Pokemon Silver and Gold for the Game Boy (back when the cartiges were square and thick).

@Daniel_Newton: EXACTLY! He's the ULTIMATE Pokemon, there shouldn't be a need to change him. Plus, I still think i´d be better if this was Mew's evolution.

Not really. When Digimon Digivolve (or whatever they call it) they evolve in the same way that Pokémon do - a more powerful (usually larger in size) "upgrade". Alternate forms in Pokémon are exactly what they sound like - alternate. One isn't necessarily better than the other, just better suited to different situations.

Is that when all this nonesense started?

It started with the generation III games (Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald and FireRed/LeafGreen) with Pokémon like Deoxys. It made sense then though, because that was THE WHOLE POINT of that particular Pokémon. They've just been milking the idea since then, I don't think any of the other Pokémon they've done it to really needed it.

Post by ComicMan24 (8,761 posts) See mini bio Level 12

@sora_thekey: Well, only the Chosen Digimon revert back to Rookie after digivolving, wild Digimon tend to remain to that form so it is not quite the same, no.

This whole thing started in Gen 3. IIRc Deoxys was the first Pokemon to have a different form having a Normal, an Attack and a Defense forme (a Speed forme was added later) and later games introduced more of them. Sometimes the changes are just cosmetic like with Cherrim and sometimes the stats or the type could change like with Shaymin who becomes part Flying when he changes into his Sky Forme. They are usually triggered by an object the Pokemon might be carrying or the location it is like with Giratina or even the season or the weather. But a Pokemon with different forme is considered the same Pokemon with the same name and not as an evolution.

Couldn't agree more.

@Daniel_Newton: @ComicMan24: Well, whenever a Digimon was beat/killed he would revert back to an egg, and the chosen Digmon reveret back to rookie form for the most part.. but I guess it does differ since the digivolving process made them better and stronger.

So, different forms for different situations... I am understanding the concept better but it still sounds unecessary marketing because they no longer have ideas for new Pokemon. Next thing you'll hear will be a flying form for Pikachu!
