he supposed antagonist, he took Charlotte for reasons unknown in the beginning, however, as the events progress, his motives become clear: he and Charlotte are in love, and they are trying to escape the persecution of their forbidden romance. He gained the respect (and loathing) of both vampires and humans alike as he doesn't kill without being provoked. Link has powers beyond a vampire of his age, including full regeneration from mortal wounds and a presence that deforms crucifixes, cracks mirrors, and wilts plants.
A vampire, he is the apparent antagonist of Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. He carried off Charlotte Elbourne, the young daughter of a dying old man, who requests D to rescue her, or kill her painlessly if she is turned. Actually, Meier and Charlotte are in love and they are trying to run from the forbiden love between a human and a vampire. They plan to escape to the City of the Night, a space fortress where the vampires thrive in peace away from the humans.
Meier is a angsty and powerful vampire, but he only wants to be with the woman he loves even facing sunlight, burning himself in the process and holding several vampire hunters attacks. He also refuse to turn Charlotte into a vampire.
In the movie, Meier is helped by a vampire ghost, Carmilla, planning to use a sky-rocket to reach the City of Night. However, Carmilla only helps the couple for her own purposes, she wants to takeover the girl's body, and for that, she appears as a illusion and kill Meier, by cutting him in half. He regenerates but comes to late to prevent Carmilla from biting Charlotte and briefly returning as a blood-covered corpse, only to be beheaded by Meier and destroyed by D's sword. Meier reach the dying Charlotte, and they declare their love for each other. D wants Meier to hand over the girl's body so he can return her to her family, but Meier refuses to let him. After a brief sword fight, D injures Meier but not critticaly and decides to only take Charlotte's ring as proof she is dead and let Meier keep the body. Meier is last seen with Charlotte's body in his arms, take off to the City of the Night.
In the book, it is whole diferent from the movie. There is no Carmilla and he is called Mayerling rather than Meier Link. They plan to escape to the City of Night but using a spaceport but the sky-rockets are destroyed. D fights with Meier Link and defeat him, however the girl (she is nameless in the book) begs D to spare him, but this doesn't stop a possessed Borgoff to kill the vampire and seeing his lover dying in front of her, the girl suicides in his claw. Rather than surviving, in the book, Meier dies before the girl, who also commits suicide rather from been bitten by a vampire in the movie.
