'Tis the season for giant robots in Japan (as if there's ever an off-season!). Seriously though, we've got the life-size Gundam, the permanent life-size Tetsujin-28, and now? A giant robot near Osaka's city hall...which spits out 20-foot-long jets of fire. The statue was actually in Tokyo earlier this year, so it's a more mobile monolith than the Gundam or Tetsujin.
Based on a stock character from artist Kenji Yanobe, the Torayan is "the ultimate child's weapon, as it sings, dances, breathes fire, and follows only those orders given by children." It'll be around in Osaka until October 12th, but it's not clear where it'll go after that, or what its final resting place might be.

Hey, Japan? Could we borrow it here in the US? I bet it'd be awesome to have here in Portland at Pioneer Square!
