Matsushima

Origin

Matsushima is a decorated police officer in the Tokonosu Prefecture. She was assigned to instruct the rookie Asami Nakaoka when the city was hit by the outbreak of Them (zombies). She led a group of human survivors into taking shelter in Taiei Shopping Town mega-mall and used her experience to make effective barricades. She would eventually leave to try and reach the Eastern Police precinct to stage a rescue and left Asami n charge.

Creation

Highschool of the Dead Vol. 5 JPN (2008)

The character of Matsushima is a supporting character of the manga/anime series Highschool of the Dead that was written by Daisuke Sato and illustrated by Shouji Sato. The series first began serialization in Fujimi Shobo's Monthly Dragon Age magazine in July 2006.

Her first appearance was in Hightschool of the Dead Volume 5 CH. 21 "The Good, the Bad, and the Dead", and her first anime appearance was in Highschool of the Dead - Episode 12 "All Dead's Attack". She is never shown to be alive in the manga series, but was briefly shown alive at the finale of Episode 12, after the credits. She has no voice credit.

Asami had the complete faith in Matsushima and was able to keep faith among the others at the Taiei Shopping Town that she would surely return with a rescue. A few days passed with no sign of the police. It's unknown when or how, but Matsushima failed to reach the station. She had been bitten and changed into one of Them. Asami was emotionally devastated to see her superior officer as one of the undead and aimlessly wondering the malls parking lot.
