Mashiro Kuna 100 years ago

It was 100 years ago that Mashiro Kuna was a lieutenant in the 9th Division of the Gotei 13, under the command of Captain Kensei Muguruma. Kensei had been tasked to investigate a rash of disappearances of other Soul Reapers within the Ruko District. Mashiro's constant complaints about the mission greatly irritated Kensei. When he told her that she wasn't even asked to come, she claimed as his lieutenant that she had to join. It was while she was throwing a fresh tantrum about being hungry that she discovered the empty clothes of ten Soul Reapers.

Later the next night, Mashiro was soundly asleep but still aware enough to catch Kensei's hand as he tried to fix her robe. The teams were attacked that night by the traitor Kaname Tousen, and the Gotei 13 never heard back from them. A search party was formed to look for Mashiro and her team made up of various Captains and Lieutenants, but they all fell into a trap. Mashiro and Kensei had been infected with the powers of the Hollow. They were mad and attacked the team that came to save them. While Rōjūrō Otoribashi and Lisa Yadomaru fought the hollowfied Kensei, Mashiro attacked Rōjūrō from above and slammed him into the ground, then turned to attack Captain Shinji Hirako. Her rampage was only stopped when Lieutenant Hachigen Ushōda with binding Kido.

Just as it seemed the chaos was coming under control Hiyori Sarugaki began to hollowfy, and they were all cut down by Tousen, who had been watching in the distance. It was revealed that he was aiding Lieutanant Sousuke Aizen as part of his experiments. Before they were all killed, Mashiro and the rest were saved by the appearance of Captain Kisuke Urahara and the Kido Corp's Tessai Tsukabishi. Aizen escaped, and Mashiro was taken to the 12th Division with the rest of the infected so Urahara could try to save them with his invention, the Hogyoku.

Before Urahara could cure them, both he and Tessai were arrested as the culprit who attacked them. Mashiro and the hollowfied Soul Reapers were sentenced to be destroyed. They were saved by the 2nd Division Captain Yoruichi Shihoin and put into a safe hiding place while she freed Urahara and Tessai. They were all taken to the Human World so they could hide. It's unknown how long it took Urahara to help Hiyori and the others. They weren't cured, but were able to regain their personalities and control their Hollowfication. At some point, the group separated from Urahara and went into hiding on their own in Karakura Town to form the Visored.

They were soon visited by Orihime Inoue, who managed to both track Ichigo and walk through Hachigen Ushoda barriers. Orihime left after talking with Ichigo, but Hachigen asked Hiyori to bring her back. Just as things were looking their worst for the Gotei 13, Mashiro and the Visored made their appearance into the battle. Not to help them as much as it was to fight Aizen and help Ichigo. When Aizen summoned several Gillian hollows, Mashiro and the others summoned their hollow masks. Lisa sliced the giant head of one with her sword to destroy it in an instant. Mashiro almost effortlessly destroyed four of the Menos Grande with her "Mashiro Kick", leaving an explosion in her wake. She got angry with Kensei, because she wanted to take out the last one. She then turned her attention to the Espada, Margera Wonderweiss, but dealt a devastating kick to the gigantic Fūrā above him.

Wonderweiss attacks Mashiro for killing his pet, but Mashiro double kicks him to the ground before he can fire his Cero at her. She even struck a pose for her apparent victory. She's distracted by seeing in the sky as Aizen betray his own Tres Espada, Tier Halibel. She neglects to see Wonderweiss has revived next to her, but manages to send him flying with a kick after a warning form Kensei. He tries to warn her not to push her limit with the mask, but she angrily tells him that she can keep this up all night.

Angered he ripped her scarf, she fires her "Mashiro Super Cero", but he cancels the blast. As Mashiro rushes in for a close attack, her mask suddenly shattered. Wonderweiss uses that opening to deal a barrage of devastating punches to Mashiro's face. He's stopped by Kensei, and he takes Mashiro to lay her down on a nearby rooftop. With a grin, she asks if he's going to avenge her, but he tells her not to be so happy since he did warn her. Kensei goes into Bankai to fight Wonderwiess and destroys him.

Ichigo eventually returned from Hueco Mundo and defeated Aizen, but at the cost of his Soul Reaper powers. Mashiro and the other Visored have their injuries treated before leaving. Mashiro and the rest of the Visored have not been seen since.

Powers & Abilities

Despite her childish personality, Mashiro possesses exceptional skill and power as a lieutenant in the Gotei 13. The advantage of hollowfication gives her an incredible boost in power that no other Soul Reapers can.

  • Hakuda Master: The Hakuda fighting style is a series of martial arts technique taught at the Shinigami Academy. Mashiro highly excels at the use of hakuda as her primary for of combat. She is accurate, efficient, and devastatingly powerful.

Specialty Attacks:

  • Mashiro Kick (白キック): This attack is a forward striking kick that Mashiro uses. It's powerful enough to destroy the masks of several Gillian-Class Menos hollows.
  • Mashiro Super Kick (白スーパーキック): This attack is a specialty kick that she adds her name to. After bracing herself, she fires upward a devastating kick straight up. This was powerful enough to obliterate the gigantic hollow creature called the Fūrā.
  • Mashiro Drop Kick (白ドロップキック): This is another specialty kick of Mashiro that she adds her name to. While using her incredible speed, she dive bombs in from above to axe kick down on her opponent. The impact is so great that it can create a crater and destroy surrounding structure.

Hollowfication

The process of Hollowfication is a unique ability that was a side effect of one of Aizen's experiments on Soul Reapers. It gives the user the ability to summon a Hollow mask that greatly increases all their attributes. Their spiritual pressure, strength, and speed are all augmented. The training to control hollowfication is not easy, as it requires a person to tame their inner hollow before it can be controlled; then the use of the mask is limited by time. Mashiro's time limit is 15 hours.

The shape of the mask is unique to each person. Mashiro's mask is in a form a heart shape with several eye holes and two antenna. The cute bug style of mask is reminiscent of a Kamen Rider heroes. Mashiro has shown that she has the longest use of the mask among any of the other Visored. Her limit has been 15 hours from the start, but was drastically shorter due to her overexertion in the battle against Margera Wonderweiss.

When she was originally shown in full hollow form 100 years ago, not only was her face covered by a mask, but her legs were also surrounded by an armor. After taming her inner hollow, she hasn't been shown to be able to summon the rest of this armor.

  • Mashiro Super Cero(白スーパー虚閃 (セロ)): The Cero is an attack normally exclusive to Hollows. Energy gathered and fired in an extremely powerful energy blast. The color of the Cero can vary, and Mashiro can fire a lime-green energy blast as a kick. It's a wide flying energy blade that follows the arc of her kick.

Zanpakutō

The Zanpakuto is the unique sword of the Soul Reaper. Though, not much is known about Mashiro's zanpakuto since she's never seen using it in combat and has only been briefly shown in the series. The sealed form is the first stage of the zanpakuto. In this form it merely appears as an elegantly crafted katana with a straight blade. The guard is rectangular with circles on each point. The handle is wrapped in green cloth. Her zanpakuto's special abilities have never been displayed, and it's also unknown where she keeps it while she fights hand-to-hand.
