Marshall D. Teach A.K.A Blackbeard is the captain of the Blackbeard Pirates and former member of the Whitebeard Pirates. He ate the Dark-Dark Fruit, and discovered a way to steal more Devil Fruit powers.
22 years ago, Marshall D. Teach, age 16 was in the Whitebeard Pirates serving under Edward Newgate. Teach was considered a son to Whitebeard who most on his crew called "Father" He even used to have a friendly relationship with Ace and had a warm personality.

However it turns out Teach was only after the Dark-Dark Fruit (Yami-Yami no Mi) and had been trying to get it for years, it was also confirmed that Teach only joined the Whitebeard pirates because Edward, currently being the strongest of the devil fruit users, gave him the biggest chance of of finding another devil fruit (As Ace had too gotten one) However after years with no luck Teach was about to give up his quest for the fruit until one of his crew mates, Thatch, found it, Teach having been searching for it for years felt that the only way to obtain this power was to kill his own crew. Teach did so but it is unknown exactly how he did it, and then ran off with the fruit and ultimately leaving Ace and the rest of the Whitebeard Pirates to hunt him down.
Blackbeard's current outfit it not too different from his outfit on Banaro island. He has changed his white button up shirt to a red one, added a beaded necklaces, and now has three flintlock pistols in his yellow sash along with bottle of alcohol on his right side, and a yellow sash right above his green pants, he also now wears a pirate tri-horn hat. Other than that Blackbeard also has a massive body frame being 11'2 feet tall, and is often called fat. Blackbeard also has a very hairy body and on each finger on both hand he has rings with different colored gems on them much like Crocodile. All in all Blackbeard strongly resembles a stereotype pirate with the exception of no eye patch or peg-leg,
However, probably the most distinct feature of Blackbeard is his several missing teeth, from time to time Blackbeard will either have more or less missing teeth sometimes even a full set. This is unknown if this is a mistake made by Ota or some other reason.
Blackbeard is much like Luffy in a way, as he too dreams of becoming king of the pirates and finding the treasure one piece. Blackbeard also along with the rest of his crew heavily believes in fate and that everything that happens is simply up to fate as when he used his new found gura gura no mi powers he put his entire crew at risk. To add to this Blackbeard is highly amoral as he will kill who ever gets in the way of his plans, also as seen in Banaro town before his fight with Ace he and his crew as soon over a village of people who are either all dead or unconscious thus suspecting he and his crew had robbed the small town for an unknown reason (Well besides being pirates.) Blackbeard also does not believe that there is such a thing as good or evil on earth. Another odd trait about Blackbeard is he has three types of personalities, one personality being the encouraging dreamer that Luffy had met at first, the sort of kind but bold person. The second one is the evil, cold-hearted killer that will do whatever it takes to get what he wants like the one who fought Ace in Banaro Town and Luffy in Impel Down. The third is the coward that will run away at the sign of danger like when Red hair Shanks and his Crew appeared to challenge Blackbeard's new crew, and he fled. Another example is when Whitebeard had Blackbeard pinned down and was going to deliver a critical blow Blackbeard begged for his life, but the when Blackbeard had his crew to back him up he opened fire with his guns on Whitebeard thus showing that at times Blackbeard can be a real coward. However despite all of this Blackbeard shows some concern for his crew like when he took a giant fire blast from Ace in order to protect his crew, he also showed gratitude when Shiryu saved him and his crew from Magellan's poison. Blackbeard has also shown to be extremely patient as he joined Whitebeard's crew for the soul purpose of obtaining the Dark-Dark Fruit and had waited 22 years for him to get it before killing Thatch and leaving it. Also much like Luffy Blackbeard has a monster apatite as he has been sen eating entire cherry pies all by himself, and while in the Banaro town bar he even ordered 50 cherry pies. Blackbeard surprisingly also shows some respect for his former crew as when he met up with Ace again in Banaro town he still referred to him as "Commander" and when he met up with Whitebeard again he still referred to him as "pops" one downfall of Blackbeard is that he gets too overconfident with his power that this usually leads to him getting badly injured, but Blackbeard does know when he cannot win like when he did back down from fighting Shanks and his crew and again with the three admirals. Like Luffy, Garp, Jaguar, and Gold Rodger, Blackbeard too carries the Will of D.
Everyone in Blackbeard's crew shares his same ideals and belief's on fate, they rarely ever fight amongst themselves either making them well together. Blackbeard's crew is full of wanted criminals at this point. However despite being criminals Blackbeard and his crew have shown to care for each other as when Auger and Burgesse fought Ace in order to protect their captain, and Blackbeard has shown concern for them when he told them to not continue fighting Ace and let him handle it as they were not strong enough, he even went so far as to take a fiery blast from Ace to protect his entire crew despite the fact that one of the cons of his Dark-Dark Fruit is that he takes more damage, however this could be because he can regenerate anyway. He even shows some form of respect towards some of his former crew members as he still called Ace "Commander" and as he calls Whitebeard "Pops" still he also realizes Whitbeard's power as he comments on it as one of the strongest, however the feeling is not neutral as everyone in the Whitebeard crew still despises Blackbeard and Ace along with Whitebeard himself even tried to kill Blackbeard but failed, not only this but despite this Blackbeard even taunts Thatch's death and even Whitebeard after he died.
Obviously, Teach is an huge enemy of the Whitebeard pirates having killed a fellow crew member and deserted the entire crew without a word, but he is also now a enemy of the entire government as he joined the Shichibukai but then betrayed them in order the get legal access to Impel Down and also released highly dangerous criminals from their cells thus also betraying two teams, not only this but Luffy is also one of Blackbeard's main enemies now as before the Impel Down saga Blackbeard encouraged Luffy to not give up on his dreams and hoped that he found his way to Sky Island by then Luffy finds out the Blackbeard was the man who was responsible for Ace being turned in to the government to be executed. Another notable enemy of Blackbeard's is Red haired Shanks as it is stated by Shanks that Blackbeard is responsible for the three scars Shanks's left eye although the method behind this is unknown. Magellan is also an enemy as it is hinted that Blackbeard did some serious damage in their second encounter thus allowing him to free the prisoners from their cells destroying Magellan's pride.
Blackbeard is so far the only person is One Piece to wield two different devil fruits even though it was said to be impossible he has shown to be extremely skilled with is Dark-Dark Fruit and fairly good with using the Tremor-Tremor Fruit.
