Marie, a character in the Sengoku Collection anime series, is the owner of the Far End Cafe and Ai's mother.
Marie, the owner of the Far End Cafe, was once a pianist with a love of music but after a few rocky relationships where she was financially taken advantage of, she gave up on her piano playing and allowed the cafe to become a rundown restaurant. After Bashou Matsuo begins working at the cafe, it begins to flourish and Marie rediscovers her love of playing music.
During a loud and public breakup, Marie meets Bashou, who is looking for food and shelter for the night. Marie allows her to stay at as a thank you, Bashou completely cleans up the cafe. The sudden changes upset Marie but her daughter Ai is able to convince her to go along with the changes and to let Bashou work at the cafe. While there, Bashou's haiku poetry becomes the cafe's main attraction and the cafe becomes popular enough to garner a televised interview with the owner, although Marie acts very nonchalant about the Bashou's impact. Eventually, Nobunaga Oda appears and leaves with Bashou in the middle of the night. Marie sees the two of them leaving and begs Bashou to stay, but Bashou continues away, telling Marie that the cafe is a beautiful place and that she enjoyed her time there. A short while later, Bashou returns to the cafe, much to everyone's delight.
