The anime series Maken Ki ! takes place in modern day Japan. We first meet Takeru Ohyama, a normal everyday anime stile perverted young man as he moves into his new dorm room in a private high school that was once exclusively all female. He is being helped by his childhood girl friend, new roommate, and student body vice president in this school named Haruko Amaya, who apparently finds his perverted ways charming. Unbeknownst to Takeru, this school contains and teaches students with magical powers, who access the "element" thought there body and direct this force though a Maken, which can be a weapon or some other object. He learns quickly that the students here are free to conduct magical duels to showcase and prove there power. Though Takeru has no knowledge of this, or apparent control over it, he too has this power. He gets to learn later in this series how to control this power, but since no Maken will adapt to him (at least in the beginning), cannot use his power as a weapon until he can find a Maken he can use. Until then, it's up to Haruko, who is known as the "Strongest Maiden" because of her powerful Maken, and Takeru's other two female roommates to protect this young man from the other female students at school, who all apparently hate him, until the time he gets his act together enough to in turn, protect the girls.
I got the feeling of deja-vu watching this anime and felt like I have written the same reviews in the past while writing this. This is because I have indeed seen this anime before, around a hundred times, and wrote about them here or on other review sites. It's as if the creators of this anime lifted the contents of other anime series and cut them together to make this. I won't go much into the fact this series is loaded with fan service and is yet another dumb ass harem in an endless sea of this overused idiotic plot device, nor the fact there is no story being told here, let alone it being void of any decent dialog or premise. Take away all of that and the crappy music, the combat sequences alone make this anime unwatchable. Done in monochrome with random loud sounds and splashes of lines and colors, these choppy and poorly choreographed sequences will have you reaching for the off button (if not your finger down your throat) within seconds of there inception. This alone was so bad it would be a deal killer for me. Overall, this series was unoriginal, unfunny, and not in the least bit entertaining. If I could, I'd flush this one down a toilet so it could be where it belongs, with all the other shit in the sewers. If there was a rating below zero stars, this one would be overqualified.
