Maia Mizuki

Maia Mizuki is the 15-year-old protagonist of Daphne in the Brilliant Blue. She is a brilliant student at the Ocean Academy, wanting to succeed there like her deceased grandfather did. While her average student friend Tsukasa Takagi graduates, Maia eventually ends up failing the final test. She is then evicted out of her home and she is forced into the slums. To make matters worse, a pickpocket takes her cash, rendering her broke. She then ends up being taken hostage before being shot by a pair of female mercenaries. She wakes up at the mercenaries' office and the two, namely Rena Honjo and Shizuka Hayama, offer her pay and shelter if she can help them with their missions. They are members of Nereids, a freelance service that is a jack-of-trades. Maia accepts and joins the them on their crazy missions, along with two additional members Gloria and Yu Park. Maia later finds out her past, that she is actually over 100 years old, being cyrogenically preserved as the last survivor of Elpida. Her "grandfather" is actually her aged brother who took care of her. Maia then ends up going back to the Ocean Academy while working jobs for Nereids.
