Mysterious boy named Aladdin travels around the world with djinn name Ugo


Magi is fantasy/adventure series inspired by the One Thousand and One Nights (Arabian Nights) tales. Written and illustrated by Shinobu Ohtaka, the manga began its serialization in Weekly Shonen Sunday in June of 2009. An anime adaptation was produced by A-1 Pictures and began airing in October 2012.


Story revolves around Aladdin who finds a magic flute that houses a djinn name Ugo, a magical being that is similar to genie. The two travel together around the world to discover more djinns. Along the journey, Aladdin encounters and make friends as well as enemies, while discovering true purpose of his life.

Innocent and yet mysterious boy that came from nowhere. He has no memories of his past, he doesn't know where he came or his parents for that matter. He was however raised by djinn named Ugo, hidden in sacred temple, until one day when Aladdin wished to go outside. It was revealed later that Aladdin is a Magi, one of chosen people who are destined to save the world from unknown evil.

Young man who used to travel and work for people until he met Aladdin. Desperate for money, he and Aladdin decided to capture dungeon so he can obtain all the treasure in it. Not only he claims all the treasures in the end, but Alibaba also manages to obtain Amon, djinn of honor and austerity who has power of flame.

Descendant of warrior tribes known as Fanalis, Morgiana was raised as raised as slave ever since she was a child. Due to unique characteristic of her tribes, she is far stronger than than average men, strong enough to punch through solid wall. She was emotionless and obedient slave before she encountered Aladdin and Alibaba, and ever since she became free she has been journeying with them to aid them in their fight against formidable enemies.


The manga series is published by Shogakukan in 2009. During its ongoing run in the Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine, Shogakukan releases Tankōbon volumes starting in December 2009. As of now, they have published 12 volumes.
