Maes Hughes is a member of the Amestris State Military stationed at Central City and head of the Criminal Affairs office. He's a doting husband and father.
Maes Hughes was a very caring family-man who was investigating on the case of the Philosophers Stone .
During his investigation, he found that Amestris was surrounded by a country wide transmutation circle, right after this discovery he met his end at the hands of the homonculus by the name of Envy which was assisted by Lust. He appears to be a great knife thrower as he was able to throw right in Lust's head before she had the chance of assassinating him.
Conqueror of Shamballa (movie)
In this movie where Edward Elric is trapped in the real world of 1900's Earth, Ed befriends this world's version of Hughes. In this world, Hughes is an unmarried officer who is still courting the same woman who was his wife in Ed's alchemy world, but she she is put off by his bigotry. He's sympathetic to what would become the Nazi Party, but eventually repents.
