While Makarov battles Hades, the rest of the Fairy Tail members fight the Grimoire Heart henchmen. As the battles progress, the Fairy Tail Guild meet the Seven Kin of Purgatory.
Kain is walking and talking clearly as he wonders where Zeref is. After a recap of Makarov battling Hades, the flashback of Makarov begins. The young, impatient Makarov has a quick tantrum which prompts the other members of the guild to tell him to calm down. The previous master of guild then steps in and takes Makarov outside. In front of the sunset, Makarov tells his master that those thieves who talk ill of Fairy Tail should take a beating. The master gives him a quick philosophy lesson. Then, the flashback ends; Hades use his chain to throw Makarov over the island. Makarov revert to his normal size, and he ask why his master formed an evil guild. After some small talk, Makarov and Hades exchange magic spells and the earth shake. Hades seems to have the upper advantage as he drags Makarov with his magic chain. Suddenly, Makarov finds him surrounded in a dark spell field; he uses his 3 pillar defense spell. In response, Hades uses the 100th form of Amaterasu.
Back to Natsu and gang, Natsu beat down the thugs while Wendy wonders why Grimoire Heart is here. Cana, and her group are battling the army, yet they are overwhelmed by the numbers. In another battle, Juvia and Erza battle the henchmen; Juvia longs for Gray much to Erza's annoyance. At the camp, Mirajane and Lisanna are battling; at the same time, Elfman and Evergreen defeat their enemies. While Zeref ponders about the endless conflicts of war, Makarov struggles to stand up; he asks what has happened to him. Hades replied that magic was born in darkness originally, but because darkness is feared and powerful, it had to be suppressed. So, he had to search through all the lost and dark magics in order to find the essence of magic. And eventually, he found it. The original essence of magic was Zeref himself. Suddenly, Makarov jumps at Hades, but Hades shot a hole through Makarov's body.
When Makarov thinks about his successor, Laxus gets an ominous feeling as he walks through a desert somewhere. In Tenrou island, Natsu smashes the army, Happy lures the stupid henchmen over a cliff, and Pantherlily finds it increasingly hard to keep his battle form. Pantherlily asks Wendy if she can heal herself, but Charle explains that Wendy can't heal herself. After a off topic conversation, Natsu takes his anger out on the Grimoire Heart henchmen for his scarf turning black. When a guy bombards Natsu with fire, Natsu eats the fire much to the henchmen's surprise. Immediately, Natsu wipes them out; one of the henchmen calls him a monster. Zancrow appears and tells them to search for Zeref. When one of the henchmen states that Natsu is strong, Zancrow thinks they are insulting his guild and burns them off the face of the earth.
Then, Natsu asks why Zancrow killed his comrades. Zancrow answers by blasting him with black flames; Natsu tries to eat it, even though Wendy tells him to dodge. Natsu realizes he cannot consume them, and Zancrow explains that his magic is that of a God slayer, something much too powerful for a puny dragon hunter. At Cana's group's location, Caprico makes his appearance; at Erza's location, Meldy appears in front of them; at Elfman's location, Rustyrose recites poetry in front of them; at Mirajane and Lisanna's location, Azuma finds them. Meanwhile, Kain fails to find his opponents, and Ultear continue her search for Zeref. At the beach, Hades talks about how his Seven Kin of Purgatory are the closest things to the original essence of magic (aside from Zeref of course); the Lost Magic Users. As the battle heats up, Kain takes a bath at the base of the waterfall complaining about various things.
