Liza

Origin

Liza was the sole survivor of a catastrophic crash landing onto Sakezan Continent. Sakezan captured her and treated her poorly at first but out of the loneliness of being the only humans on the planet, the two eventually became closer and friendlier towards each other.

Creation

Liza is a character in the Galaxy Express 999 series, which was created by Leiji Matsumoto, who is popular for the Captain Harlock franchise and its related series. She makes her first appearance in Episode #29 "The Sakezan Continent". In the anime series, her design and creation are credited to Shingo Araki and Shigeru Kogawa respectively.

Major Story Arc

The Sakezan Continent

When Tetsuro is imprisoned by Sakezan, Liza offers to free him in exchange for helping her flee. When Tetsuro asks that Maetel be freed as well, Liza refuses saying that she would feel bad for Sakezan if he was left all alone on the planet. Maetel convinces Tetsuro to leave her but during their escape he changes his mind, which alerts Sakezan and allows Liza to escape. After a series of events and battles, Tetsuro awakens and finds himself on the GE999 and exits to save Maetel. As he leaves he sees Liza aboard the train and the Conductor tells him that she was identified as a crash victim and will be allowed to travel to the next stop on the GE999 route. Maetel shows up at the GE999 with Sakezan, who has decided to let her go due to Tetsuro's bravery and fighting spirit. Before the GE999 can leave, Liza exits and runs toward Sakezan. The two hug and embrace while the GE999 takes off into space.
