Elfman and Mirajane's younger sister who is also a member of Fairy Tail. She was believed to be dead but was somehow transported to Edolas for the last two years. Because of her supposed death Elfman and Mirajane suffered mental and emotional trauma which crippled their powers considerably.
Lisanna is the youngest sister of Elfman and Mirajane and all three are known for their specialty in Take Over Magic. When she was younger, she was like the maternal glue that held her family together because Mirajane was a cruel and hot tempered teenager (probably due to puberty) and Elfman was a shy and quiet teen. But despite their differences, Lisanna got along easily due to her kind, caring, and mother like personality and always accompanied them on their missions.
When Lisanna was a little girl, she often referred to herself as Happy's adoptive mother and Natsu as her husband (as pretend) and hence started to view them as her second family. As shown in a filler episode, they always fished together and spent lots of time in their small straw home having conversations about things such as their parents. Even Gildarts joined their "family" as the "grandpa" when he rescued the trio from the the Vulcan Gorian and spent time with them by playing games and doing other fun activities together.
One of Lisanna's first appearances was in a flashback that explained her disappearance/death in Elfman and Sol's fight which was shown to have had a great effect on her loved ones. For example, Mirajane, who was once hot tempered and cruel, became sweet, innocent, and passive. Even Elfman became a man due to a combination of factors like Lisanna's death and Natsu's words of sorrow. It seems that her death had impacted Natsu the most since he refuses to talk about Lisanna to anyone even to Lucy, Happy, and Gildarts. Even though Natsu is the same old aggressive, destructive and impulsive punk he always was, he still cannot share his feelings about Lisanna. The only person whom Lisanna's death did not affect dramatically is Happy. Happy, in the flashbacks, seems content and in the present he does not talk to anyone about Lisanna or asks how Natsu feels about her. Nonetheless, Lisanna's memory has helped Natsu forge a strong bond with Happy when the two fight each other over fish and other minor things.
Although Lisanna was originally thought to have died after her brother, Elfman, had lost control in his full Beast Take Over and subsequently hit her, sending her flying several meters, it turns out that she was absorbed by an Anima into Edolas where she lived with the Fairy Tail of that world for the past two years. But she was transported back to Earthland where she is reunited with Mirajane and Elfman, and participates in the S-Class Examination Trial as Juvia's partner.
Fairy Tail Stamp: Her tattoo was located on her left shoulder (similarly to Natsu) but was moved to her upper left leg (similarly to Mirajane) following the Edolas Arc.
Lisanna, who was created by Hiro Mashima, does not have any notes from the author so far regarding any inspiration used to create her. She makes her first appearance in a flashback in Chapter 55 of the manga and Episode 20 of the anime whereas in person, she makes her first appearance in Chapter 170 of the manga and Episode 79 of the anime. She is voiced by Harumi Sakurai in the Japanese version.
Lisanna is a young girl with short white hair and blue eyes, whose attire slightly changed following her stay in Edolas. Before she returned home, she wore a long tank top with crossed straps over a dress with a sash around her waist and sandals. But after arriving back, she wears a light-blue stripped shirt with green short-shorts and sneakers.
Lisanna is a kind person who acts like a nurturing mother.
Lisanna makes her first appearance in this flashback in which she is a very young, precocious girl. She easily befriends Natsu and the two begin to hang out together, especially when he discovers an egg he believed was that of a dragon's. After Natsu claimed that he would incubate the egg so that it would hatch into a dragon, Lisanna offered to help and the two worked together to keep the egg warm as well as protect it. Lisanna even decided to call herself the "mom" and Natsu the "dad" since she performed her role as the "mom" by building their straw home in the fields while Natsu performed his role as the "dad" by guarding the egg (i.e. fighting the hungry Vulcan Gorian). Upon Happy's birth, the three became inseparable and according to Lisanna, a happy family. Most of the adults (mostly Wakaba and Macao) even comment that she seemingly had a crush on Natsu.
After the flashback, Natsu remembers that he has to be a good father because of a scene that reveals Happy and Natsu arguing until Lisanna solve their little argument. Natsu heads over to Happy and brings him lots of big fishes. Lisanna's love has impact Natsu's decisions enormously.
During the Elfman and Sol battle, Elfman remembers his hardships and his poor decision that results in Lisanna's death. When Elfman uses a 100% Beast Take Over, Elfman loses control of his mind and kills Lisanna. Even with Lisanna's death looming over Elfman, Elfman has strengthened his resolve when he refuses to lose his only sister Mirajane to the Phantom Lord Guild.
Elfman's flashback goes to the time where Natsu is facing Lisanna's grave in front of their childhood home. Elfman is bawling over his poor decision-making because if he would have let Natsu join their mission or had he not use a complete Beast Take Over, Lisanna would have been alive. Natsu who is crying yells at Elfman that Lisanna is always smiling. Natsu tells Elfman what it is to be a man. A combination of Natsu's words and Lisanna's death greatly influence Elfman's personality in the present.
EPISODE 76: Gildarts
Upon Gildarts' return Happy begins to tell the story of Natsu's close relationship with Gildarts to Lucy. It begins with young Lisanna who appears together with Natsu and Happy. The young "couple" and baby Happy are enjoying their fishing, but Natsu caught a small fish. After Happy sleeps in their home, Lisanna and Natsu share a conversation about parents and family. Lisanna never had parents, so she depends on her older brother and sister. She asks Natsu about his father, Igneel. However, Natsu gets sad when he thinks about his father who abandon him for no reason.
Lisanna decides to cheer him up with a discovery she has made in the Eastern forest. Her discovery is a large footprint, but when Natsu, Lisanna, and baby Happy finds the footprint, Natsu realizes it is the footprint of a vulcan. Lisanna feels that she did not cheer up Natsu, but Natsu tells his family to go home since the fog is getting heavier. When Natsu and Happy finds out Lisanna is gone, they rush to find Lisanna in the grips of Gorian the vulcan. Gorian wants Lisanna to be his wife, but Lisanna refuses because she tells Gorian that she is the wife of Natsu. Gorian who is mad at Natsu for hurting him (see episode 20) demands him to beg and apologizes to him or he will crush Lisanna. When Natsu begs Gorian for forgiveness, the Vulcan attempts to crush Natsu with a boulder. Suddenly, Gildarts rushes out and destroys the boulder which frightens Gorian that he will never come back. After the battle, Gildarts spends time with Lisanna and her family. First, Lisanna watches Gildarts catch a gigant ic fish. Next, Lisanna, Natsu, baby Happy, and Gildarts forage for mushrooms. Finally, Lisanna, baby Happy, and Natsu enjoys a good home cook meal from Gildarts after their hard work. Lisanna witnesses how Gildarts and Natsu's relationship is like a father to son and also, how Gildarts is like a grandfather to Lisanna and Happy.
Gildarts ask Natsu about Lisanna, but Natsu tells Gildarts that Lisanna has died two years ago due to an S-Class mission with her siblings. However, Natsu does not give much information about how Lisanna dies to Gildarts because Natsu still grieves over her death and Igneel's disappearance.
Note: Gildarts left Lisanna and the rest of Fairy Tail for the hundred year quest three years ago.
Levy and Cana explains to Lucy why Mirajane and Elfman are going to church and who is Lisanna. It is almost the two year anniversary of Lisanna's death. Levy comments why Natsu likes Lucy because she acts like Lisanna. Also, Lucy, who sees Natsu sleeping, comments that even Natsu has a girl.
In the Edolas Fairy Tail Guild, Lisanna shows up to stop Edo-Lucy from bullying who she believed was Edo-Natsu and Jet and Droy from bothering Elfman. But she becomes shocked by Natsu's behavior when he tries to embrace her. As he explains to the guild t hat he's from Earthland and came to this world to save his friends, Lisanna runs out and hides behind the door in disbelief. She then begins to tear up at the realization that he was the Natsu she knew and loved. But not wanting to hurt the feelings of Edolas' Mirajane and Elfman, she makes the difficult decision of staying in Edolas for them.
During the battle with the Royal Army, Lisanna is seen fighting along side the Edolas Fairy Tail Guild, and cheering on Edo-Natsu. But when the magic within beings was being pulled back into Earthland, Lisanna begins to glow and float into the sky. She immediately tries to explain herself but Mirajane and Elfman of Edolas state they already knew that she was not from Edolas and apologize. As she tearfully screams their names, the siblings bid her farewell and ask her to send their regards to their counterparts.
Back on Earthland, Pantherlily encounters Team Natsu and pulls forward a tied Lisanna, to everyone's (especially Natsu's) shock. She then notices Natsu and immediately runs up to him, ramming him to the ground with her hug, with blushes and tears. With everyone perplexed as to what was going on, Lisanna reveals to them that she is the real Lisanna from Earthland. She explains that she was absorbed into Edolas while in the arms of Mirajane, and ended up at Edolas' Fairy Tail. Natsu asked why she didn't say anything when she saw them to which she replied that she didn't want to bear the weight of hurting her adopted siblings.
At the cathedral cemetery where Mirajane and Elfman stood before Lisanna's grave in the anniversary of her death, they hear a girl's voice calling out to them that sounded all too similar. As they turn around, their eyes widen upon seeing their sister running towards them. They then tearfully embrace each other for the first time in two years.
Once Lisanna enters the guild, everyone inside become speechless. Nevertheless, half of the men run up to her to give her a hug, but Elfman knocks them back, warning them to keep their dirty mitts off his little sister. Makarov approaches her and tells her that as a child of his guild, he had been worried about her yet he also believed in her before welcoming her back home. Moved by his words, Lisanna embraces him as she cries tears of joy, happy to be reunited with her family.
Like her siblings, Lisanna uses Take Over magic. However, her magic is based on transforming into animals or animal-hybrids (i.e. half bird or half tiger). Although Lisanna's Take Over is not an intense transformation of power compared to Mirajane's Satan Soul and Elfman's Demon King transformations since she "died" prematurely before developing her magic, she was, unlike her brother, able to do full body transformations at a very young age.
|Animal Soul Transformations||Description|
The first transformation shown is Lisanna's "bird" form which looks similarly to a swan. She uses this form to hug Happy's egg to keep it warm.
In the anime, Lisanna transforms into a giant purple rabbit to help Natsu build a hideout where the two can hatch and look after Happy's egg.
Lisanna takes the form of a small fish to swim and breathe underwater.
Lisanna transforms her arms and legs into wings and talons to enable her to fly and fight whilst maintaining the rest of her human features making her look like a harpy.
Lisanna partially transforms into a tiger, acquiring its claws, whiskers, and stripes (and possibly animal instincts to enhance her fighting abilities) while retaining the rest of her human features.
In the anime, Lisanna transforms into a giant Penguin to fight Azuma.
In the anime, Lisanna transforms into a Mermaid.
Unlike the manga, Lisanna has more references especially in the filler episodes (see above). Interestingly, Natsu has built a grave for her near their childhood home even though Happy inform Natsu that there is another grave for her near the church. Natsu tells Happy that Lisanna loves watching sunsets. This grave does not exist in the manga but appears two times in episodes 71 and 79.
