The heroine of D.Gray-Man. She is a very sweet 16-year-old lady with dark green hair and purple eyes. She is the very first exorcist that has a crystal type innocence. She is the sister of the chieftain of Europe's Black Order and seems to have feelings for Allen Walker.
Lenalee's parents were killed by an Akuma when she was very young. Her older brother Komui Lee willingly took care of her, but she was taken from him by the Black Order because she was an Accommodator. While she was forcibly kept by the Black Order she witnessed atrocities such as forced experiments on children like herself to turn them into exorcists. It was such an instance where she learned of the Fallen One's, which in short are powerful, but failed exorcists with berserk minds.
Lenalee attempted many times to escape her abusive circumstances but was always caught, primarily because of Malcolm C. Rouvelier, and she grew to despise him, which continues to this day. At a point, her mental state deteriorated and she was tied to her bed, given extreme limited movement for an unknown period of time.
After sometime, her brother Komui Lee rose through the ranks of the Black Order to eventually become a Branch Chief. At this point he was given the authority to see Lenalee again for the first time in roughly 4 years. At some point, Lenalee is freed, presumably by Komui Lee's influence and she joined his branch of the Black Order as an Exorcist.
Lenalee Lee is one of the main protagonists created by Hoshino Katsura for the series D. Gray Man. In Katsura's one shot story, Zone, Lenalee's character was not a member of the Black Order. Instead, she serves at a cafe with her brother, Komui, in China.
Lenalee has evolved a great deal from her past. Due to her forced captivity, she was a troubled child with an unstable mind. But as she is now, one would never guess she had such a tragic past. She is perhaps the most friendly member of the European Branch. Her appearance and power have likewise evolved.
Lenalee is an attractive young girl of average height and a lean build. She wears a tight fitting standard exorcist uniform with a mini skirt rather than pants like Allen, Lavi or Kanda. She initially wore long boots that were in fact, part of her innocence. She also wore her hair up in long pigtails.
Her appearance changes later in the story. After her extremely narrow escape from death in her intense battle against a level 3 Akuma, her hair was literally burned off nearly to it's entirety. Her hair has gradually grown back to part of it's original length. Also, her innocence weapon evolved, changing from long dark boots, to small crimson ankle bracelets.
Lenalee Lee is the main heroine of D.Gray-Man. She is very sweet and loving. She hates experiencing death of a companion. For her, a death of one companion is like a piece of the world being destroyed. She's very emotional and easily angered and most of her male friends are quick to make sure they don't upset her. It also seems that she has strong feelings towards Allen Walker because of the fact that he is the only one that Lenalee shared her cruel dreams about the destruction of the Order to.
Lenalee makes her first appearance when Allen Walker arrives at their Headquarters but is mistaken for an Akuma by the Gatekeeper and is subsequently attacked by Yuu Kanda. Lenalee was the one who stopped the fight then proceeded to show Allen around the Headquarters once his identity as General Cross Marian's disciple was proven.
Upon Allen and Kanda successfully completing their first mission together at the town of Mater, they returned back to headquarters. Lenalee was there to meet them and proceeded to distract Allen from entering so that he could be surprised by the Welcome Party she had prepared in his honor. But Allen was distracted anyway as he felt a bad premonition that the Finder Toma, who had accompanied him on the mission as well was in danger and he went to find him. Lenalee follows shortly after and found Allen engaged in combat with the Earl of Millennium. Lenalee jumps in to help Allen, unveiling her innocence weapon for the first time. After a struggle, the Earl departed, stating his dismay at not killing Allen when he had the chance in the past.
Back at headquarters, Lenalee continued to distract Allen but was knocked out by her own brother's robot Komlin 2 so that it could improve her body surgically. But she quickly woke up and wrecked it.
Lenalee is given her first mission with Allen as her partner. They traveled to a town that was plagued by a time loop. Once there, the duo bumped into a young woman named Miranda Lotto. They quickly discover that Miranda was the unintentional cause of the time loop and this was because of her uncontrollable innocence power that she possessed. Before they could decide on a plan of action, a young woman named Road Kamelot abruptly appeared and captured all three of them with a strange power. Having fallen unconscious in the process, Lenalee awoke and found herself, Allen and Miranda in a strange place. It was Road Kamelot's dimension and Road was in fact, a member of the Noah family, the greatest enemies of the Black Order. Lenalee then battles against Road with Allen. Road cruelly ordered one of her own Akuma to self destruct. Horrified, Allen rushed in to try and stop it, but Lenalee gets in his way. Allen became furious at Lenalee for the first time, but she slapped him in retaliation. Soon afterwards, they manage to push Road back and they escape the dimension with Miranda. They return with Miranda to their Headquarters and Lenalee receives acupuncture from Bookman to help with her recovery.
Lenalee is assigned a mission with Allen, Lavi and Bookman to discover the whereabouts of General Cross Marian. Along the way, Lenalee had a dream where Allen died and the European Branch was destroyed. She began to worry for Allen. Allen noticed her attitude and realized that since she had slapped him, she had barely spoken to him. Allen went to her and apologized for any actions he may have taken that caused Lenalee pain. She accepted his apology although she was in tears.
Some time later, Lenalee discovers that Allen was not on the train with them. She made Lavi go look for him. She learned that Allen and Lavi were in pursuit of a local vampire and would return when they had dealt with it. Lenalee and Bookman decided to wait at the village. The duo return, but in a twist of fate, they also brought the vampire along with them, who had agreed to join them. Krory was his name and he was in fact an exorcist who's innocence had manifested itself as vampire-like attributes.
The group continue their mission to locate General Cross, now joined by Krory. They went all the way to China where they met up with a former lover of Cross'. She informed them that he had recently left China and went to Japan. After learning this, the team depart on a ship to sail to Japan. During the trip however, they came across a hoard of Akuma heading in their direction. Lenalee and Allen engage the Akuma but realize that the Akuma were not after them. They decided to follow the Akuma and they were lead to Suman Dark, a former Exorcist who failed and thus became a Fallen one, a being of immense size and uncontrollable power. This brought back unpleasant memories for Lenalee as she had seen a Fallen One during her days or captivity. Lenalee and Allen attempt to save Suman Dark. Allen wound up getting absorbed by it due to rescuing an innocent little girl rather than himself. Lenalee was unable to help Allen since she needed to catch the child. She contacted her brother Komui and informed him of the situation. Komui instructed them to retrieve Suman's innocence once he had been dealt with.
After tending to the little girl, Lenalee and Allen search for Allen, but Timcanpy arrived and played a recording Allen had left behind, showing his apparent demise at the hands of Tyki Mikk. Flustered, Lenalee and LAvi find the place where Allen was left to die, but he was nowhere to be found. Having no choice, Lenalee and the others had to continue their mission while assuming the worst for Lenalee slipped into a depression for the remainder of the journey.
Lenalee spoke with Anita, the former lover of Cross they had met earlier. She accompanied them on their mission to find Cross as she wished to see Cross again as well. She said that she firmly believed that Cross was still alive and had not fallen victim to the Noah or Akuma. This helped Lenalee a little in coping with her loss of Allen and she had a slither of hope that he could still be alive somewhere. However, along the way to Edo, the ship is found and subsequently attacked by a level 3 Akuma.
Lenalee engages the Akuma in combat alone. It was a fearsome opponent and had the upper hand for the majority of their battle. After Lenalee's attacks proved insufficient to take it down, she resorted to her maximum exertion of her innocence, channeling all her power at once. After rising in the sky, Lenalee came crashing down on the Akuma with the Falling Technique: Iron Shackles attack, destroying the Akuma, but straining herself so much that her hair burned off nearly in full from the friction of so powerful a technique and she passed out into a near death state, falling into the ocean below. Lavi frantically searched for her, but when he found her, she was held by a modified Akuma, and she was encased in a giant crystal.
Sachiko believed that her innocence altered it's form rapidly in an effort to protect Lenalee. This caused some to believe that Lenalee's innocence could be the heart of all innocence, which was the ultimate goal of the Noah to destroy.
Anita tells Lenalee to regrow her hair as she looked better that way. Lenalee agreed but was horrified to find that Anita and nearly the entirety of the ship's crew were struck by Akuma, and were only still alive due to Miranda holding back their injuries with a time loop. Anita's crew all knew they were to die, but decided to go out having fun. They had a drinking party below the deck of the ship. Anita and her right hand person stayed atop on the deck. Afetr a short while, Miranda's stamina gave out and the time loop ended, causing all the crew to die.
Finally the team made their way to Edo. Lenalee however was in such bad condition that her innocence would not work and she could barely stand on her feet so she had no choice but to be a spectator for the remainder of the mission. They were soon met by an army of Akuma, Tyki Mikk and the Earl of Millennium himself. Kanda, Lavi, Bookman and Miranda battled against the army of Akuma that awaited them. After a valiant effort, succeeding at defeating most of the Akuma, the Earl grew tired of their "impertinence" and with utter ease, annihilated the entire city of Edo, pushing all the exorcists back as well and separating the helpless Lenalee from the rest. They tried to rush back to her side but the Akuma and Noah blocked them and they could only watch as the Earl approached Lenalee, now most interested in her after seeing Lenalee's innocence alter itself again to protect her, something innocence normally did not do. Thinking that Lenalee's innocence could be the heart, the Earl prepared to crush her innocence, which would result in her death. But he is blocked by none other than the fully restored and stronger than ever Allen Walker, who had arrived instantly via Noah's Ark. Allen and the Earl have a quick intense scuffle, but the Earl retreated.
Lenalee's innocence is of the equipment type. It manifests itself as a pair of long knee length black boots. When in use, green innocence energy is expelled from the ankle area. The Dark Boots serve to augment Lenalee's leg strength, boosting her speed and agility as well as her striking power.
Lenalee performs a spinning kick and creates a miniature tornado in the process. It is more potent than a regular tornado and it will destroy Akuma up to level to in rapid fashion.
Lenalee increases her synchronization with her innocence and in doing so, activates level 2 of her Innocence. Her boots undergo a minor alteration, gaining circular disk-like appendages on either ankle. In level 2 the boots are more powerful in every way, granting Lenalee more speed, power and mass.
Burden: Water Surface Technique: Water Shackles:
This grants Lenalee the ability to interact with liquid surfaces differently and treats it as a solid surface, making her able to walk on water and other liquid surfaces.
Burden: Acoustic Technique: Sound Shackles:
This allows Lenalee to treat sound waves as solid surfaces and she gains a sort of flight by being able to walk on sound waves. Furthermore, Lenalee's speed is augmented to the speed of sound.
Falling Technique: Iron Shackles:
A technique used only once by Lenalee against her first level 3 Akuma opponent. It required her maximum use of her innocence. Lenalee's innocence greatly increases in density around her boots and thus drastically increases her mass. She releases all of the pressure in one powerful kick. It exerts a force of 40,000 metric tons and was capable of killing a level 3 Akuma. The strain of this technique was so great that Lenalee burned off nearly all of her hair from atmospheric pressure and went into a catamose state and even temporarily lost her ability to invoke her innocence.
After losing her first Weapon the Dark Boots in her battle against a level 3 Akuma, Lenalee was temporarily unable to use her innocence. However after some time, she developed a new weapon derived from her pure innocence energy entering her body, merging with her blood and emerging from her ankles in the form of two blood-red ankle bracelets in it's dormant state. When activated, it morphs into a pair of high heel crimson boots composed of a unique metal extending past her knees. It has butterfly-like wings at the heel and again green innocence energy flowing from the back of her boots, but this time with an orange ring surrounding the flowing energy. It's exact speed in not known but it is apparently faster than her Dark Boots that moved up to mach 1, as Lenalee has difficulty managing her speed.
