Fans of the live-action Death Note's L actor, Kenichi Matsuyama-- also star of the Detroit Metal City live-action film and the live-action drama of Sexy Voice and Robo –will be pleased to hear that not one but two films starring the young actor will screen at the Toronto International Film Festival.
These two films are Kamui Gaiden, an adaptation of Sanpei Shirato's classic ninja manga The Legend of Kamui, and Ultra Miracle Love Story, about a farmer who falls in lovewith a teacher from Tokyo.
This means that Matsuyama has two chances to win an award at the festival, which doesn't have competition categories but rather just a big People's Choice Award. He could have won last year with Detroit Metal City, but Slumdog Millionaire won-- and though I'm confident that both of these films are awesome, they may not catch enough mainstream audience to win.
Still, how cool is that? The festival runs September 10th to 19th, so check back here-- if Matsuyama wins anything, you'll hear about it!
