Land of Hope

Land of Hope is an anime episode of CANAAN that was released on 09/26/2009
The final battle between Canaan and Alphard reaches its conclusion when the bomb in Maria's train car explodes. Alphard expects that Canaan will lash out in anger again, but instead she just seems to become cold and calculating, while Alphard suddenly becomes angry and shoots wildly around Canaan. The two of them climb to the top of the car, and Alphard plans to escape yet again by chopper, but Canaan doesn't let her go. A few more shots are fired, and Canaan shoots the gunman in the chopper, causing him to accidentally kill the pilot as it crashes into the side of a mountain.
The two girls continue staring daggers at each other, when Canaan says that Maria is still alive because she can feel her kindness (yeah, stupid anime trope, just roll with it), and elsewhere Yunyun is shown carrying an unconscious Maria on her back. Alphard tries to attack again, but slips off the car as Canaan grabs her arm. Alphard can't quite figure out how she lost, but then thinks it is because she was stuck trying to impress the dead Siam, while Canaan had moved on. So to sever her own ties, she grabs Canaan's pistol that fell off the car, and then shoots her own arm off with it, tumbling down into the abyss.
Sometime later, Maria wakes up in a hospital bed. Minoru explains that no, this is not Heaven, but the boring old world that she and Yunyun still live in. Maria laments the fact that she can't be together with Canaan, but Minoru suggests that they can still be close at heart (interpret that how you will). Somewhere outside, Minoru tells his editor that he's got a story about a man who only looked at one woman as he looks at a picture of Santana and Hakkoh. He even pays a visit to Santana's old karaoke bar and then briefly breaks down and cries.
The taxi driver from before offers to take them to the airport as various flashbacks show the state of the main cast still alive: Cummings shaved his head and decided to become a Buddhist monk in China. Yunyun is still working small jobs in Shanghai, stuffing her shirt with watermelons this time around. Alphard somehow survived her fall (sans arm) and appears briefly in an airport terminal. Minoru and Maria put their various photos on display in an art exhibit for people to look at. Canaan is apparently still working as a mercenary, watching through the scope of a sniper rifle as a plane carries her friend away from Shanghai.
In the epilogue, a slightly older Canaan sits in a room in what appears to be France, being asked to hunt down "the one-armed woman" by her contact.
