Kodansha News

Kodansha is a anime/manga company
| |

In the 20th Issue of Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine, there is an announcement of a future anime adaptation for this series. The manga series is on its eight volume. It will have a bonus story about the Fairy King.

Here's Kodansha's summary for those who are new to the series.

When they were accused of trying to overthrow the monarchy, the feared warriors the Seven Deadly Sins were sent into exile. Princess Elizabeth discovers the truth - the Sins were framed by the king's guard, the Holy Knights - too late to prevent them from assassinating her father and seizing the throne!

Now the princess is on the run, seeking the Sins to help her reclaim the kingdom. But the first Sin she meets, Meliodas, is a little innkeeper with a talking pig. He doesn't even have a real sword! Have the legends of the Sins' strength been exaggerated?

Hello everyone, I'm Taka, a wiki editor who is a big Fairy Tail fan. I would do this in the Fairy Tail Discussion (Anime) threads, but I didn't want to bore folks with the wiki. Plus, this is something I need to address. While I was approving wiki edits being a new mod, I seen folks asking me to change names of the characters such as Fairy Tail and Naruto. The mods told me that we use official translations from official manga publishing companies if possible. Not all manga series are licensed. And not all licensed manga series are available in other countries.

Sources for you to check

  • Official Manga Website or Publishing Companies (IE: Viz Media) - This is a viable option for those who don't have access to the hard copies.
  • Anime News Network - same as above
  • Public Library

I didn't put down Wikipedia because sometimes they use names spelled differently from the official publishers.

Yesterday, I took a trip to the public library, and I didn't know where to start. I just took the most recent volumes that were available. In the future, I just visit Barnes and Noble. Though, I won't be able to scan the manga pages. My camera cannot zoom in close to capture the text. Sometimes, the official websites have those solicits, short manga synopsis, that may have the names.

Name Changes

  • Tenrou Island is translated as Sirius Island. I was surprised since Crunchyroll used Tenrou Island.
  • Meldy was Meredy in Fairy Tail Wikia. When I check the hard copies, I see they changed to Merudy.
  • Ultear is Ultear Milkovich. I think we forgot to add her last name. I will do that since I'm now a mod.
  • Checked Zoldeo. It's Zoldio.

This is a shout out to active Fairy Tail editors in the community.

Hello everyone! This is the second part. If you're interested in the first part, please see this link. I'll keep this blog short since I was originally going to transcribe the entire audio recording for Eric Vale, Kodansha panel, Blue Exorcist event, and the Fakku! panel. Though, I was insane that I can do a whole transcript about an hour or so for these events. What I did was summarize the events and look for ways to install the MP3 in the blog.

Screw the rules, I have money - Kaiba
Screw the rules, I have money - Kaiba

On July 5, it was a busy Saturday. My sis and I didn't get to attend the Kyle Hebert panel in the morning. We just killed time in the exhibition booth area in the South Lobby. I bump into another old friend from college. He introduced me to Little Kuriboh, Martin Billany. I didn't know he was at Anime Expo. I got a cool poster autographed by him. This is my first autograph from a cool guy at Anime Expo.

Blue Exorcist Panel

At 12:00 or so, my sister and I line up for the Blue Exorcist panel since my sister is a biggest Blue Exorcist fan. Plus, I missed the movie, so this is to make it up to her after the first day. Yesterday, I left my little sister in the Blue Exorcist line to meet up with Tom Pinchuk when her classmate ran into us in line. Unfortunately, the staff caught my sister's friend. As a result, my little sister watch the movie by herself.

For the panel, it was divided into parts.

  1. Introduction with "Please Say That Line"
  2. Fan Favorite Scene Countdown
  3. Exwire Qualification Test
  4. Bad Anime Reactions

For the Bad Anime Reactions, it's not going to be on DVDs and Blu-Rays. It's one of those special once of a life time things. I loved the last two parts the most.

Bryce Papenbrook
Bryce Papenbrook
Bryce voiced Rin Okumura. My first impressions was that he was a cool guy.
Johnny Yong Bosch
Johnny Yong Bosch
Johnny voiced Yukio Okumura. He was the life of the party in the panel. He and his spiritual burritos rock the whole house.
Christine Marie Cabanos
Christine Marie Cabanos
Christine voiced Shiemi Moriyama. I expected Shura's voice actress, Wendee, to be dirty like her character. Christine was naughty. She just answered questions in the Exwire Qualification Test with boobs and such.
Kira Buckland
Kira Buckland
Kira voiced Izumo Kamiki. Loved her acting when she spoke in Izumo's voice and did a bit of tsundere thing with Johnny.
Wendee Lee
Wendee Lee
Wendee voiced Shura. She was pretty quiet compared to her character. I dig her deep voice.
Stephanie Sheh
Stephanie Sheh
Stephanie voiced Kuro. The audience was captivated by her voice for Kuro. When she meowed, everyone went "aw."
Kyle Hebert
Kyle Hebert
Kyle voiced Ryuji. He was a beast in the panel that kept Johnny at bay.

Kodansha Panel

After escorting my little sister home, I managed to get to the Kodansha panel at 7 PM. Ben Applegate is the host along with a Japanese person. (I forgot her name, but I will add it when I go over the audio recording.) I did a separate blog for this section. What Ben and his staff did was to introduce popular manga series (Attack on Titan, Fairy Tail, and Sailor Moon) and incoming manga series (Sherlock Bones, Vinland Saga, No. 6, and Sankarea). Most manga series will be available for digital ebooks except for Sailor Moon. Then, Kodansha went into a Q & A session. I cover most of this part (I will complete it soon) in the Kodansha blog.

Fakku! Panel

I was sad that I couldn't make it to the Project-H panel at 8:30 PM. The reason why I wanted to attend the Project-H panel was to meet Yoko, a sales representative, and thank her. I met her on Twitter and found out she was Gia's friend. She and I talked about hentai and promoting the work on Anime Vice. Being a wiki editor, I took the role and added most of manga from Project-H books. I had help from PikaHyper, a mod from Comic Vine. Though, I should have expected it since lines start up usually an hour or two prior to a panel. I made a quick change and attend the Fakku! panel. It started around 9:22, a bit late, since it was supposed to be 9PM. I wasn't annoyed. During that time, I got to met someone and recommended him, Sword Art Online and Attack on Titan, in the line. For the panel, they showcased the top hentai titles to watch. It's more comedic to hear the audio recording. It was the second funniest panel on my last day for Anime Expo. Blue Exorcist was the funnest for me, personally.

Here are the top hentai shows. Jacob and his staff didn't show animated clips of sexual intercourse. It was a slideshow where Jacob and staff did some improv. It was hilarious. I have not heard of any of the series except for Stringendo, Sora no Mizu, and Another Lady Innocent.

Miyazaki Maya Daizukan
Miyazaki Maya Daizukan
The first one is Miyazaki Maya Daizukan. It was the most bizarre hentai title because of the bicycle fairy and the gullible school girl. The bicycle fairy tricks the school girl into having sex with him. What was hilarious about this one was Jacob's take on the show.
School I is about three school girls who want to get in the pants of this one guy after hearing him having sex with a teacher over the intercom. The guy tries to get away from the girls. He was more into his lunch and getting down the ladies. Though, he gives in and has coitus with the third girl. The hilarious scenes are how the girls knock themselves out while the boy runs away to eat his lunch in peace.
Kansen is about a virus that turns human beings into sex craved zombies. I thought it meant literally zombies. No, these sex fiends look normal which I like. I wouldn't like undead raping people. That would be nasty to watch.
Sora no Iro, Mizu no Iro
Sora no Iro, Mizu no Iro
This show has some awkward sex scenes. Jacob and his staff talked about the girls are so oblivious to a couple having sex in the locker room.
Ore wa Kanojo o Shinjiteru
Ore wa Kanojo o Shinjiteru
This is a Netorare show. Jacob and his staff poke fun at the poor man who doesn't know that his beloved wife is cheating with another man (against her will). Jacob doesn't know why he chose this title. He does point out how the sex scenes keep showing pictures of the married couple just rub the NTR theme.
Another Lady Innocent
Another Lady Innocent
It's a story about two lovers and a maid. Set in the Civil War in America, Faye, Carson's daughter, comes home where she finds out her maid, Sophia, has been taking "care" of John, their best friend. When things take a delightful turn where Faye experiences love, a powerful man named Lord Mark has his eyes on Faye.

Jacob pointed out some humorous things: maids are not covering their boobs and private parts, John's body, how the nipples are drawn beautifully, and Faye's scene where she hugs her father who is having coitus with a maid.
I don't know the name of the episode or particular series in the Stringendo franchise. Jacob and his staff pick this one scene where the girl who loves one boy drags him into her apartment. She and the boy make love until her father comes home. After she cooks a meal for her father, she and the boy continue their mating ritual in the bedroom. When the father comes up, she kicks the guy out of the window.

Jacob's joke revolved around making "pasta" if you know what I mean.

Thank you everyone for reading this blog. I hope you guys and gals get a chance to visit your first con.

Hello everyone! This is a summary of the Kodansha panel at Anime Expo, July 5th at 7PM. I thought I can transcribe an hour of audio recording, but it seems insane. I tried another method to put the whole audio recording here, but I didn't find a trustworthy site. If you want to hear the actual audio recording, I have a dropbox account that I used for school. Just PM me your email, and I'll send a dropbox invite.

Here is a report on the Kodansha panel!

Kodansha Panel by Ben Applegate

Hosted by Ben Applegate.

The panel starts off with an Attack on Titan trailer. Then, Ben and the rest of Kodansha panel are proud to present a list of manga series that they are proud to release this year. Ben Applegate and his staff announce that Kodansha is going into e-books while Nook, Google, Kindle, and Apple Library. However, Kodansha cannot get everything into the e-books such as Sailor Moon due to licensing issues. Then, Ben and his staff state that they are doing a manga acceleration, one volume per month for Attack on Titan and Fairy Tail, to catch up to the Japanese releases. One of the manga series that Ben is excited is called Vinland Saga. The seies is coming out October 8. He and his staff are splitting Vinland Saga's original tankobon in smaller chunks for the North American Release.

[Will fill in later...]

Ben Applegate's Recommendations

  • Sankarea - For people who want adorable and bloody manga.
  • Sherlock Bones
  • No. 6
  • Vinland Saga

Q & A Session

Note: I haven't completed the section. It's a big section. I will complete this section by tomorrow. Sorry for the inconvenience. It's been hard to hear some of the questions in the audio recorder because the audience don't have access to a microphone. I'll go over the audio recording and proofread the sections below. Below here, is a few stuff I jot down in my notebook.

  • Q: What is the status of the Sailor Moon artbook?
  • A: Due to priorities with the manga acceleration, e-books, and publishing the newer series, Sailor Moon art book is delayed.
  • Q: Why did Kodansha remove the extras in the Sailor Moon's original Japanese tankobon.
  • A: The Author of Sailor Moon request Kodansha America to not publish these extras.
  • Q: Why aren't there any new Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei volumes released?
  • A: Since the first few volumes did not sell well, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is delayed but it's being released slowly. The issues with the series are that the translation pages and the translation of the cultural jokes are expensive to produce.
  • Q: Will the manga print get color pages like their original Japanese tankobon counterparts?
  • A: If the print cost is too expensive, the manga print will not get the color pages. However, digital manga will have the color pages only if the original Japaneese Tankobon has the color pages. If the Japanese magazines have color pages but not the original tankobon, Ben Applegate cannot put the color pages. He only has files for the original tankobon.

Untouched by the Titans for a century, humanity has become complacent. But Eren Jaeger has had enough. While his fellow citizens are content to hide, Jaeger has the passion to take action to not only protect the city, but to learn what the Titans actually are. Quick Picks

Welcome to the Quick Picks! I'm covering last month since we're behind. I don't have partner here since he's busy. Don't worry, he'll finish the anime merchandising, and you'll be seeing his commentary on the front page.

As for manga releases, we got a few omnibuses for classic series such Trigun, Negima, and Love Hina. In the Viz Media department, we got all of the Holy Shonen Trinity titles, One Piece, Bleach, and Naruto, with some 3 in 1 editions. They're like omnibuses. Fans of the recent fall anime 2012 series, Btooom, we got the first Btooom volume 1 coming to North America on February 26.

Please enjoy the blog and support the mangakas and their staffs.

Note: This is a temporary blog. I'm behind in posting Quick Picks on the front news with my partner. I'm sorry about that.
