The manga Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouen Mae Hashutsujo-- which I believe translates roughly to “This is the Police Station in Front of Katsushikaku Kameari Park” and which can be shortened to KochiKame, thank god –is reportedly getting made into a live-action drama starring Shingo Katori, the youngest member of SMAP. And no, he was not the SMAP member who got arrested for public nudity not too long ago. That was Tsuyoshi Kusanagi.
Katori will be playing Ryoutsu Kankichi, a well-meaning but rather hapless cop who has a habit of stumbling onto great success only to have his schemes eventually fail or run out of control.
Quick history lesson, too: it turns out that KochiKame is actually the longest continually-running manga series in history (Golgo and Doraemon have both had breaks in their publication), too. KochiKame also got a TV anime that ran from 1996 to 2005.
