A style of comedy that takes a crass and politically incorrect approach to topics considered to be taboo, indecent, or impolite such as sex, violence, bodily functions, pedophilia, race, death, gender, sexual orientation and things that would generally be considered offensive if made light of.

The imaginary events that goes on in your head when you are asleep. In some anime's they can bring important messages or to haunt a person.

Drunk

Someone who loves to consume alcohol, and typically overdoes it.

Ecchi

Ecchi is a Japanese term meaning sexy or erotic, anything that evolves sexy characters. Derived from the word "Hentai" but their meanings are completely different. Ecchi walks that line between sexy, but never crosses it into full graphic nudity or sex.

Energy Blast

A character can harness their power and shoot energy-based projectiles from their body.

Espionage

This is the act of secretly watching a person or group to gather information, often for political purposes. Spies typically disguise themselves so that they might sneak around. Espionage is also frequently tied to assassination plots.

Eyecatch

Eyecatches are short scenes or illustrations used to begin and end a commercial break in anime.

Face Between Breasts

When a character has had their face put in the middle of a girls breasts. Though most of the time it may be on accident. Other times it shows sexual relationship between a man and a woman.

Fan Service

Fan Service is often a sexually provocative moment or pose that takes place in manga and anime. It usually has no real purpose to a story, and serves as a lurid visual.

Flashback

Used frequently in Anime to either recap past events or provide a back story for a character, either their origin story or their off-screen training of new attack. Sometime and entire episode/chapter would be a entire flashback.

Gratuitous Changing Scene

Scenes of characters changing clothes shown in part or entirely for the purpose of fan service.

Humans are typically depicted as the dominant species of the planet Earth, and sometimes of other planets. Humans often mirror their real life counterparts in terms of abilities and intellect, while other times they can achieve superhuman feats.

Japanese Festivals are referred to in Japan as 'Matsuri'. Festivals can be local affairs or even nationwide holidays. In many ways similar to Fairs in the US.

Japanese Honorifics are best described as a sign of respect and endearment. Politeness is an important part of Japanese culture and language.

Kissing is the act of pressing your lips to the body of another person. This can be on the cheeks, head, hand, but more commonly to another person's lips.

Lecher

Characters who exercise their strong libidinous desires in unwholesome ways, such as peeping on the objects of their desire, making inappropriate comments, stealing underwear etc. Though typically middle-aged or elderly men with a penchant for young girls, there are probably a few dirty old women out there.

Common visual conventions seen in manga and anime to convey emotions, often for comical effect.

Modesty Towel

A towel usually worn after bathing or showering to cover up. Sometimes used as censorship even during bathing.

Nosebleed

Bleeding from the nose, in manga/anime it mostly used as a sight gag that happens when a character is thinking or witnessing something perverted.

Omorashi

A Japanese term meaning "to wet oneself." It refers to the fetish where one experiences sexual arousal from someone having a full bladder and/or wetting themselves. The fetish is prominently featured in erotic manga and anime, and commonly associated with young moe characters.

Otaku

In Japanese, otaku means people who are obsessed over something. Usually, it is in reference to anime, manga, and video games. In the western world, the word is frequently designated to a fan of anime, manga, video games and/or Japanese culture.

Panty Shot

Gratuitous exposure of a character's panties, possibly the biggest fan service concept in anime and manga.

Parody

Parody is a style of work that closely resembles or mocks preexisting material or genres for comedic effect.

Physical Exam

Physical health examinations that often take place at schools in anime and manga. Typically focusing on girls having their bust size measured, such scenes often serve as a form of fan service.

Revealing Attire

A concept where characters wear revealing or risque clothing.

Sibling Rivalry

Sibling rivalry is a type of competition or animosity among brothers and sisters, blood-related or not.

Skinship Grope

In anime and manga, girls sometimes admire each other's assets, to the point of groping either with or without permission. This concept applies to any part of the body and either gender, but it's usually all about boobs.

Students

A Student is one who is enrolled or attends classes at a school, college, or university. A popular theme among many manga and animes.

Teachers

A Teacher is a type of person who is in charge of educating others in some form of higher learning or skill. The Japanese title is "Sensei".

Tricky

Coined by Tom Pinchuk, tricky refers to content that sexualizes minors or characters with the appearance of minors. Generally, these characters have a physical appearance that puts them noticeably under the legal age of consent (17) in the United States.

Wardrobe Malfunction

Those moments when clothing slips or falls off, revealing a little too much. During fights, this is usually considered "clothing damage" rather than a wardrobe malfunction.

Zettai Ryouiki

Literally meaning "Absolute Territory", zettai ryouiki is the area of uncovered thigh between the skirt and the knee sock.
