Kikyo was a powerful shrine maiden. Once the guardian of the Shikon Jewel, and died in her duty. Revived through magic and now hunts Inuyasha, who she falsely blames for her murder.
Backstory
50 years before the arrival of Kagome to the feudal era, Inuyasha had fallen in love with Kikyo, the local village priestess. they were looking forward to getting married until Naraku, disguised as each of the two, attacked them separately, leading both to think they had betrayed each other. they then fought each other, resulting in InuYasha being trapped in a deep sleep for 50 years, imprisoned on the same tree that Kagome met him on.as a result of the conflict, Kikyo was severely wounded, and died the same day the InuYasha was sealed, taking the Jewel of Four Souls with her in her cremation. It is later revealed that Kagome is the re-incarnation of Kikyo, and had the Jewel of Four Souls in her.Present Day
Kikyo is revived by an ogress by capturing Kagome and using part of her soul to re-animate Kikyo's body. As a result of the reanimation, Kikyo must now absorb souls to move. initially, she is vengant towards InuYasha, but eventually is restored to her compassionate self later on.
