After Osamu Noguchi, a Japanese fight promoter, brings traditional Muay Thai boxers to Japan in December 1959, karate champion Hideki Shihara takes the stage name Tadashi Sawamura in order to compete against them in the new sport of kickboxing. However, when he first goes into the ring, he is knocked out after 13 close calls. Determined to learn from his mistakes, he trains with Coach Endo and promoter Noguchi, hoping to improve his martial arts skills and popularize the new sport. The Japan Kickboxing Association sets out its new rules in 1966, and the first World Kickboxing Championship is held in Tokyo in 1968, in a rags-to-riches tale that may seem to be a fictional account like Yawara, but is actually based on a true story. Sawamura also appeared live in an Ultraman (*DE) episode, training with "Ultraman Jack" Hideki Go. The anime was preceded in 1969 by a manga in Shonen Gaho, presented as a biography by Karate-Crazy Life's Ikki Kajiwara and Kentaro Nakashiro. V
