One-Time Romantic Rival to Keitaro in the Anime
This young man grew up in a wealthy family and had an attraction to Naru Narusegawa since his first year of high school, yet could not act on his feelings toward her due to the attention she was getting from tutor Seta Noriyasu. Waiting things out patiently, Kentaro would launch his attempts to own her affections when they graduate from high school.
Kentaro Sakata was a character made exclusively for anime adaptations of Love Hina, appearing in all installments of the series consisting of the TV anime, Christmas special, Spring special and Love Hina Again OVA series. He was voiced by Ryotaro Okiayu in Japanese and Steve Areno in English.
Being around Naru's age, Kentaro has brown hair and brown eyes. Due to his wealthy upbringing, Kentaro is usually seen dressed in lavish clothing.
Kentaro is an intelligent and competent young man, serving as a foil to Keitaro Urashima's romantic idealism. He comes off as something of a playboy in terms of love as he tends to act on his emotions without regard for seeking ideals to a relationship. As a running gag in the series, Kentaro appears to be self aware of his presence in an anime series and the limited amount of screen time he gets in it.
Kentaro appeared around the time Naru graduated from high school, attempting to earn her affections and considering Keitaro a one-time rival in love. Both had competed to try persuading Naru to go on a date with one of them to an amusement park. However, Kentaro's efforts fail as he winds up being persuaded instead to buy tickets to the park for all the Hinata Inn residents.
He makes another appearance to spur on Naru's brief career as a pop idol by taking on the role of her manager. When she ran away from having anything to do with the idol career due to wanting to commit to her studies to get into Tokyo University, Kentaro attempted to put together another pop idol act by making Shinobu and Motoko into a duo called Sword and Flower. However, Mitsune's mismanagement of the talent company's funds drive it to bankruptcy and Kentaro winds up having to work under Haruka at the Hinata Tea Shop to pay off his debts.
For the remainder of the series, Kentaro mostly appeared whenever he was needed to provide a means for the plot in the series to advance and would support Keitaro in his efforts to earn Naru's affections. He would remark on how his screen time was reduced in later appearances. Kentaro would later enroll into Kyoto University.
