A young boy who trains with Multiple Martial Arts masters to become the strongest Disciple.
Kenichi initially sought to take up martial arts to fend off the school bullies who plagued him, but he was unsuccessful in this endeavour until he met Miu Furinji, a beautiful transfer student and prodigious martial artist. Miu introduced Kenichi to her home, the Ryozanpaku dojo where several world class martial arts masters trained. Kenichi undertook a gruelling training regime under his new tutors which resulted in a swift growth in skill, but found himself a victim of his own success.
While he was successful in driving off his old bullies, he also attracted the attention of stronger delinquents and gang members who sought to recruit him or make a name for themselves by defeating him. Kenichi's problems were particularly exacerbated by Niijima Haruo, a scheming opportunist who used Kenichi's growing reputation to form an organization of his own, the Shinpaku alliance. This scheming drew Kenichi into the conflict between the Shinpaku alliance, and Ragnarok, the strongest local gang.
Although he at first took up martial arts to keep aggressive people off of his back, Kenichi develops an appreciation for the disciplines he's taught, and enjoys the bond he forms with his teachers, and the courage to stand up for his convictions that it brings. Nevertheless, he is often comically cowardly, running away or becoming terrified when faced with a new threat or some new severe behaviour on the part of his masters. Kenichi's martial arts prowess and kind, virtuous attitude have helped him to form new friendships through his battles, something welcomed by him as he was once virtually friendless. He has also developed some unexpected romantic interest from girls but is generally oblivious to this and only really has eyes for Miu.
As a martial artist, Kenichi is talentless, but hard working. He has been taught Jujitsu, Karate, Muay Thai and Chinese Kempo, as well as techniques for combating those with weapons.
