Summary
Kazumi Amano is a member of the Top Squadron and copilot of the machine superweapon Gunbuster. Noriko Takaya, a fellow student at the girl's school where they were trained, has looked up to her ever since they met and constantly calls her "Big Sister." Although she puts on a kind face in front of Noriko, Kazumi lacked confidence in her skills and would constantly complain to "Coach" about how Noriko wasn't ready to be a space pilot, let alone the copilot of Gunbuster.Relationships
Kazumi's relationship with Noriko started off as a rather shallow one at first; Noriko would always call her "Big Sister" and Kazumi would smile and play along. At first Kazumi didn't care for Noriko; some would say she even found her annoying. However, after Noriko proved herself Kazumi realized that "Coach" had been right about her all along and accpeted her worth. Kazumi also had a deep relationship with Koichiro "Coach" Ohta. At a glance the two of them seem to be nothing more than a teacher and student, but in reality Kazumi is in love with Ohta. Ohta ignores her feelings at first, believing that if she were to get too attached to him it would lessen her ability to pilot Gunbuster. After Noriko and Kazumi got back from a 6 month long (in Earth time; to Noriko and Kazumi it only lasted a few minutes) mission, Kazumi and Ohta got married. Kazumi then settled down and became principal of the school she was taught at, leaving the piloting of Gunbuster to Noriko and Jung.
