Teenage twins Maiko and Shoko Ogi are the 38th generation to inherit the mystic warrior mantle of the holy Karula Shinyo line. They can also switch minds and combine their powers for greater strength against evil. Raised and trained by their grandmother, herself a psychic warrior of awesome powers, they fight the ancient spirits that lurk beneath the surface of modern Japan. Based on Masakazu Nagakubo's manga in Halloween magazine, the girls were just two of several anime "inheritors of ancient tradition" from the early 1990s, and they could be said to have inspired Devil Hunter Yohko and Twin Dolls, at least in part. They returned on video in 1990, finishing off demons in Japan's old capital of Nara, before heading up north to the city of Sendai to investigate cases of merpeople, amnesia, and crimes of demonic passion.
