Kaname Clan

Origin

Kaname Kuran is a pureblood vampire who rescued Yuuki from another vampire 10 years ago. It is later revealed he is the soul of the Kuran ancestor, awakened by his now "master" Rido Kuran. Kaname is living in the body of the son of Juri and Haruka Kuran, the parents of Yuuki.

Creation

Matsuri Hino, who created Kaname Kuran, states that she based Kaname off of Yuki's personality and that Kaname has the author's "bad side." His Japanese voice actor is Daisuke Kishio, and his American voice actor is Ethan Murray. He first appears in Vampire Knight volume 1 and episode 1.

Personality

To other vampires, Kaname is generally cold and authoritative, although he takes care of his followers. With Yuuki, however, he is kind and gentle, and treats her very preciously. He is also extremely protective of her, often working behind the scenes to ensure her safety, even if the ends justify the means. This makes Kaname an extremely mysterious and complex character with regards to the lengths he is willing to go to protect Yuuki.
