Thanks to her irresponsible father who has gambling problem with huge debts, Nanami was kicked out of her own house. By helping a stranger, she gains a new place to live, a shrine to be exact with fox sprite as it guardian.
Originally a shoujo manga series of same name, Kamisama Hajimemashita is fantasy romance series written and illustrated by Julietta Suzuki. It was serialized in Hana to Yume, shoujo magazine published by Hakusensha. The series is licensed by Viz Media in North America and its anime adaptation is schedule to be produced by TMS Entertainment.
Nanami's father owes enormous amount of debt due to his gambling problem. No matter how hard Nanami tries to hide and save money her father will find and use them to gamble. One day when she comes home she finds out that her father ran away, and debt collectors confiscated everything. With nowhere to go Nanami becomes homeless. While in despair, she helps a stranger who was being chased by a dog. When the stranger hears out Nanami's story, he says he'll give Nanami his house. When Nanami arrives at location described the stranger, she discovers that it is not a normal house but a shrine. If that wasn't bad enough Nanami gets welcomed by fox sprite, telling her that he is guardian familiar of shrine and the man who Nanami met was a land god named Mikage. With nowhere to go and shrine being only place she can stay, Nanami now has uphold her duty as land god.
High school girl who became homeless thanks to her father's debt problem. After rescuing local land god Mikage from a dog, she receives his power which allows her to be the new owner of Mikage's shrine and Tomoe, the shrine's guardian familiar. Now with her new godly powers, she must perform her duties as god while maintaining her social life.
Previously a yokai, Tomoe now resides at Mikage's shrine as its guardian familiar. Not really happy with Nanami being the new owner of shrine, Tomoe do everything he can to kick her out, but he gradually accepts her.
Kamisama Hajimemashita a Japanese manga series by Julietta Suzuki began serialization in March of 2008 in the shōjo manga magazine Hana to Yume. Later republished in tankōbon volumes by Hakusensha with the first volume released on September 19, 2008. Viz Media licensed the English language distributions rights at the 2009
