Kallen Kozuki is Britannian-Japanese mix-blood, but she identifies more with her Japanese half. The ace pilot of the Guren for the Black Knights.
She was born as Kallen Kozuki and lived with her mother and elder brother Naoto Kozuki. Her father was a Britannian citizen who played no real role in her life. It was a happy time for her to live in Japan with her mother and and brother. She got good grades in school and they sometimes went on trips.
Everything started to change on August 10, 2010 when the Britannian Empire invaded Japan and the country was renamed Area 11. Kallen's mother saw the hardships this caused Kallen. So, she gave up her parental rights to Kallen's Britannian father to try and make a better life for her daughter. Her mother even faced great abuse when she went to work as a maid at the estate of her father. Kallen mistakenly believed that she was working there, because she couldn't let go of her father. In reality, her mother wanted to be close to her at any cost.
At some point, Kallen's brother was killed as he led a resistance group made of some of his friends and others. They included Kaname Ohgi, Shinichiro Tamaki, Kento Sugiyama, Yoshitaka Minami, Yoshida, Inoue, and Nagata. With the death of her beloved brother, Kallen joined their forces. She lived under the name Kallen Stadtfeld while attending Britannian Ashford Academy. She used her father's Stadfeld name as cover, but despised everything Britannian. She never considered herself one. In her heart she was a proud Japanese woman. She was only really present for school at the beginning of term, but in spite of these absences she has high marks. She spent most of her times at the ghettos. Her father was back in the Britannian Homeland, and Kallen's stepmother didn't care much for her either. Using the cover that she was a sickly girl, Kallen was able to explain all her absences from school.
She has often been a bit of a geek when it came to the Knightmare Frames of Britannia. So, she was the perfect pilot when they actually got their hands on an old Glasgow and painted it red to represent Japan. The resistance had a mission on stealing a Britannian created biological-weapon. She was paired with Nagata for the attack. They managed to steal their targeted canister. It wasn't a clean getaway and they were being followed.
Kallen is a lead character in the Japanese anime series Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion from the creators Goro Taniguchi & Ichirou Ohkouchi. She is part of the main cast and was designed by the famous all female design team known as CLAMP. The series began airing on October 5, 2006. She is the main character representing the Japanese in the series.
She first appeared in Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion - Episode 1 "The Day a New Demon was Born". Her character in the Japanese series was voiced by Ami Koshimizu, and the U.S. dub work produced by Bandai Entertainment is done by Karen Strassman.
Kallen is known for her flaming red-hair, voluptuous body that causes her to play the role of fanservice quite often. She's a strong and skilled fighter of the series. After the first season ended, story changes were made and dropped for the second season. There was originally going to be a story involving Kallen and her father, but he never appeared in the series. In the original finale for the first season it was released that Kallen was gong to kiss "Zero", but this season finale was changed.
Kallen is the ace pilot for the Black Knights and the personal body guard of Lelouch in her persona as the rebel leader Zero, and becomes one of the several potential love interests to the protagonist of Code Geass, Lelouch Lamperouge. She holds the call sign of Q-1. This is the chess designation for the queen in chess. Kallen was initially introduced to the audience as a 16 year old Japanese rebel, but was living undercover as a student at Ashford Academy called Kallen Stadtfeld (カレン・シュタットフェルト). She was pretending to be a sick and physically weak girl in order to draw attention away from herself and explain her regular absences. She is actually quite strong and has impressive hand-to-hand combat skills. While her fighting talents are not quite on par with Suzaku Kururugi's. In the Knightmare Frame Guren Mk-II she excels above all others.
As the series began, Kallen became one of Zero's most loyal soldiers and is appointed to be his bodyguard, but ironically through little of Lelouch. After Lelouch's identity is revealed she is heartbroken and abandons him. In the second season, Kallen starts off refusing to recognize Lelouch as Zero and only addressing his as "Zero". Though, as the series progresses and she learns more about him. By the end of the series she only calls him Zero when in front of those who don't know her identity. She began the series as a person who hated everything Britannian, but fell in love with a Britannian prince.
Kallen was riding shotgun as she and Nagata were on he run from their attack, but they were being followed by the Britannian Police's air support. Escape seemed impossible. News of their attack had already begun to spread, and Viceroy Clovis la Britannia gave a broadcast for the Britannians that died. Nagata crashed after being distracted by students on the road. Back on the road they were tracked the Britannian forces. As Kallen went to pilot the Glasgow they stole, she never noticed that Lelouch Lamperouge was in the back of the truck. She never saw him, but he got a good look at her. Though, he had not recognized her at the time. Her victory was short lived when the royal guard arrived in their more advanced Sutherland Knightmare Frames. These forces were led by Jeremiah Gottwald. She was overpowered, but was able to escape. She waited for the heat to cool down, and made her way back to the Shinjuku ghettos to meet back up with Ohgi.
When she got to the ghettos, Kallen found an all out genocidal attack by the Britannian Army. This was unlike before. They seemed to be trying to kill every living Japanese in the ghettos. In her damaged Glasgow, she went on a forceful counterattack and was killing as many Britannia's soldiers as she could find. Kallen was found by Jeremiah, but an unknown voice came over the radio giving her tactics that let her easily defeated him. He even led Kallen's gang to a horde of Sutherlands to use, and called her "Q-1". Following this mysterious leader, they were decimating the Britannians. A new Britannian KMF called the Lancelot counterattacked, it defeated them and tracked their commander inside a Sutherland in the distance. Kallen saved him, but had to eject from damage. She found Ohgi and the others after she landed. They were trapped inside a warehouse with other Japanese to escape the genocide when an armored hit squad burst through the gates. At the last second, Clovis had announced a ceasefire.
After slipping through unnoticed, Kallen went back to Ashford Academy. Kallen kept up her act of the weak girl, and she was confronted by Lelouch. He used his Geass power to question why she was fighting Britannia. When he tried to command her to forget, the Geass failed. The next day, she thought that Lelouch might of been the faceless commander. He invited her to join him privately to the school's club offices. Their conversation was interrupted as the other members of the Ashford Student Council entered. She was invited to join, due to her frailness. She noticed the dramatic change in Lelouch when his younger, blind sister Nunnally joined them. Kallen was accidentally showered with champagne as Shirley Fenette struggled to pull the bottle away from Lelouch.
In the shower, Lelouch came to bring her a change for clothes. She asked him to hand her the pouch as a rouse to grab him and question him. He was coy and refusing to answer her directly. He answered the ringing phone, and it was for her. The voice was the commander. he told her to by at Tokyo Tower the next day at 16:00(4:00PM). Since she had Lelouch by the hand, she realized that he couldn't know her secret. In her haste for answers, she accidentally opened the shower curtain when she turned with the phone. She was able to play off her conversation as if she was talking about a net game. She was embarrassed Lelouch pointed out to her about the curtain. As he escorted her back after she changed, they discovered that the news had reported the death of Prince Clovis and his murderer was Suzaku Kururugi, the son the Japan's Prime Minister before Britannia invaded.
Before Kallen could go back home, Milly Ashford insisted she join her and the rest of the girls to the club house's bath facilities with Shirley and Nina Einstein. Milly called it a form of female bonding. Kallen asked about how Lelouch's personality changed around Nunnally, and learned that it was Milly and Nina's family that developed the Ganymede and Lo series. They then talked about the various costume parties, Since Kallen couldn't have her measurements taken tomorrow, Milly ordered Shirley to hold Kallen still so she could use her hands to check.
Kallen arrived on time to Tokyo Tower after the televised funeral of Prince Clovis. Ohgi followed her with Kento Sugiyama and Yoshida. She was called to the desk to reclaim her phone. The phone rang from someone called "Zero". The voice directed them to the local train. After riding and talking to Kallen on the phone, the person invited them to meet them at the head of the train. They found a masked man in a cape. Though he refused to show his face, he promised to show him his power. Kallen and Ohgi were the only ones who joined Zero's plot. He had them remake Clovis' car. Kallen drove with Zero on board to confront the public parade of Suzaku to his mock trail. Zero declared himself for all to hear that he was the murdered of Clovis. He used his power to control Jeremiah to aid in their escape with Suzaku.
Back at school, Kallen went to talk with Lelouch at school. She tried asking him about tracking the person she was talking to at the bathroom. Shockingly, he suddenly grabbed her by the face and holding her close. When she finally asked what he was doing, he claimed to be confused, as well. To everyone's surprise, Suzaku was introduced to Kallen's class as a transfer student to Ashford.
The school day was calm until Milly announced over the PA to the entire school that she wanted everyone to track down and capture a cat that had stolen something from Lelouch. The prize would be a kiss from any choice member of the Student Council members. Kallen panicked and ran into Shirley as they both were hunting for the cast to avoid kissing anyone. Kallen lent her jacket to Shirley, who was only in her school swimsuit. They cornered the cat, but Shirley's questioning who she'd want to kiss distracted and the cat ran off. They later watched as Suzaku saved Lelouch from falling, and he caught the cat. Lelouch admitted to everyone that Suzaku was his friend, and he was invited to join the student council. The cat was adopted and named Arthur.
The next day, when Kallen and Shirley were alone. Shirley confronted her that she knew Kallen's secret. She had her knife ready when Shirley said she had seen Lelouch and Kallen the other day. They argued and she claimed there was nothing between them. She stormed out but Shirley still didn't believe her.
The Student Council was hosting the "Hand-made Dress Party". Kallen was having her dress made by Shirley when Milly asked who she wanted as her escort. She denied she liked Lelouch, saying she didn't do well with egotistical types; but utterly refused the idea of the other boys. Lelouch, Suzaku and Rivalz arrived with supplies as her dress was nearly finished, and Ninnally told Lelouch that he would be Kallen's escort. She did get rather offended when she Lelouch opposed the idea. He denied this was his motive, and bent to Nunnally's will. As Milly and the others cheered. It startled Arthur, causing Kallen to stumble and her dress started to fall.
Zero took Kallen and the others to their mobile base. It was set up with uniforms. The news announced that the Lake Kawaguchi resort had been attacked and hostages taken by the Japanese Liberation Front. Milly, Shirley, and Nina were among the hostages. Zero led them to rescue the hostages, and the new viceroy, Cornelia Li Britannia, let them pass. Zero saved the hostages and blew up the hotel. He used the media attention to declare the arrival of the Black Knights.
Kallen got dragged along to the opening of Clovis Land's water exhibit with the rest of the Student Council. They ran into Suzaku who was already there, and Kallen couldn't hide her contempt from her face as they listened to Viceroy Cornelia give the dedication speech for this attraction created by her late brother.
The popularity of Zero and the Black Knights was on the fast rise as they went atfer the corrupt. Milly arrived at Kallen's home to deliver her school transcripts and had discovered her mixed background. Kallen explained to her how her biological mother is the clumsy maid she met when she arrived. While Kallen was in the city, Ohgi told her about a new drug on the streets called Refrain. Lelouch later arrived to stop her from getting involved with a group beating up on a Japanese man, and somehow convinced them to leave and never return. She got so angry with him later as they talked that she slapped him and stormed off.
Kallen was piloting a modified Burai as the Black Knights raided a Refrain warehouse. The back, was filled with Japanese under the influence of the drug, including her own mother. She was talking to herself as if she was chasing after her brother. Kallen was humiliated to see her mother like that, but still saved her as a member of the Knight Police attacked. Even in the drug induced state, Kallen's mother told her that she always wanted to be with her. Only now did Kallen realize that her mother wasn't being a maid in that house to stay close to her father. It was to be close to her. Kallen was able to kill the Knight Police pilot, and she got her mother to a hospital. Kallen's mother was given jail time and the drugs had rendered her nearly catatonic but should recover. She was still aware enough to grab her daughters hand and encourage her to keep fighting.
It was in the Student Council meeting that everyone struggled with a touche subject that they all discovered about Lelouch. Though their eyes mat as Lelouch tried to deduce what was going on. it wasn't that Kallen knew Lelouch's secret. It was something else. Kallen just wanted to drop the matter all together. She thought that was for the best and it would solve itself. The issue wasn't cleared up until Suzaku arrived and noticed the big issue. Lelouch had food on his face, and the council was having trouble on how to tell him.
Milly had another party planed for the school. It was the return of the Cross-Dressing Festival, where all the girls dressed as boys and boys as girls. At the party, it was the rule to even act the role. It was brought back since it went over so well the previous year. Kallen asked how the boys took to it, and the girls explained that last year some managed and seem to like it a bit too much. they walked into the boys dressing room and everyone was surprised how beautiful Lelouch looked dressed as a woman. Kallen couldn't help but laugh and tease him.
The Kyoto Group had recognized the Black Knight and given them not just several Burai, but the first custom Japanese made Knightmare Frame, the Guren Mk-II. Zero gave it to Kallen to pilot. He led them Narita into an ambush against the Britannian forces as they moved in the the Japanese Liberation Front's secret headquarters. Using the Guren's radiation systems, she triggered a gigantic mudslide that wiped out much of the Britannian forces. Kallen sweaped through the army with ease, and defended Zero from Jeremiah and his Pureblood group, though he ejected before his Sutherland was completely destroyed. Kallen was confident with the power of the Guren she could win this war.
Kallen followed Zero's orders and was in perfect position to intercept Cornelia in her custom Gloucester. She fought hard, but Zero immobilized one of her arms fro the distance. She was only saved by the reappearance of the Lancelot. Kallen had her rematch and watch destroying the Lancelot's weapons, one after the other. Before she could attack for the kill, the ground below her gave way. With the radiation arm damaged, she had to fall back with Ohgi and the others. They had delivered a serious blow against Britannia, and Zero called her to pick him up later that day. She was shocked to fine him with a green-haired young woman. Zero hold Kallen she was an ally, but she was still bothered by how close they seemed from the conversation.
The Black Knights were called to meet with a representative of the Kyoto Group. Kallen joined them and after the secretive drive found themselves inside the Mount Fuji mining facility. The Kyoto leader demanded Zero remove his mask. Kallen tried to defend him, but Ohgi removed it since they were being threatened by Burais. Under the mask was the green-haired woman she met. The real Zero was in one of the Burais and exposed the Kyoto leader as Taizō Kirihara. From cover, Zero showed Kirihara his face. He explained to the Black Knights that Zero is Britannian, but would fully support them since he knew of Zero's hatred for the empire. C.C. then officially joined their forces.
The next day, Kallen attended the funeral for Shirley's father. He had been a casualty in Narita of the mudslide she had triggered. She tried to apologize, but couldn't explain why. Rivalz and the other council members said they were sorry as well for thinking the Black Knights were cool. As they were following up on a lead, Kallen met with Zero in private. He told her that she was free to leave, but he couldn't stop since it would make the deaths so far meaningless. She agreed to keep following him, and he thanked her. After the JLF boat blew up, Kallen fought with the Lancelot again as she tried to capture Cornelia once more for Zero. The mission was eventually called off after Zero's Burai was damaged and he was injured.
A few days later, everyone was excited about their near victory. Ohgi was suspicious about the death of the JLF. He was questioning with the others if the JLF really committed suicide as Zero had said. Their latest member Diethard Ried joined into the conversation, but his motive was questionable.
After the fight with the Britannia and she was home and called Ohgi. She requested that Ohgi could find a way to free up some funds to have their uniforms washed more often. With all the sweat they get on missions. It made the clothes smell. The conversation took a weird turn when Ohgi suddenly started to as talking about sweating bodies with disturbing amount of details. She hung up when he started asking her how she would take her clothes off, then how she would have someone else remove her clothes. She then called Zero and told him about the weird conversation she just had with Ohgi. That something was wrong.
Kallen and Tamaki were going on a mission to Yokoso for supplies then Fujisawa for Inoue. As they drove off, they discovered C.C. was already in the back. Kallen slammed on the breaks when Tamaki asked if C.C. is Zero's mistress. When Tamaki's ribbing became more and more crude until C.C. kicked him out the the moving vehicle. Surprisingly enough, Kallen wasn't stopping. A point not missed by C.C. Kallen told C.C. that seeing Zero's face didn't matter and that her feelings wouldn't change. But Kallen slammed on the breaks again as C.C. asks if she was in love with Zero.
Kallen tried to turn the conversation back on C.C. to ask if she loved Zero, but was too bashful to ask if they were more carnal in nature. She was confused when C.C. answered how she was Zero's accomplice. When She asked if C.C. was claiming she was the closest person to Lelouch. C.C. answered that there was someone far closer to him than her or anyone. C.C. started talking about how contracts are better than friendship or love. Kallen thought that sounded like a very lonely life. When she tried to push further, it was C.C. who became evasive. She asked Kallen to forget what she has said, and in return she wouldn't say anything to Zero about the torch she had for him. Kallen became distracted, but this time there was a car crash. No one was injured.
In the council room, they were talking about some fight Shirley and Lelouch had. She was even going so far as to act as if she didn't know him. Kallen told Suzaku it was better to stay out of the matter, then she denied she was involved in it. Lelouch came walking in seconds later. he seemed exhausted and confused. He quickly left, and Kallen thought he was avoiding class for his gambling again. Suzaku left to follow.
The Black Knights were approached by three members of the Four Holy Swords, surviving members of the JLF, after their leader Kyoshiro Tohdoh was captured and sentenced to be executed. Zero had agreed to aid in his rescue, and they were joined by the creator of the Guren Mk-II, Rakshata Chawla. She brought with her several new Gekka KMFs and piloting suits. They staged their raid, and Kallen saved Tohdo from his execution after breaking down the walls. After Zero spoke with Tohdo, he agreed to join the Black Knights. Tohdo battled with the Lancelot, and exposed the pilot after chopping the top off his cockpit. It was Suzaku Kururugi. Kallen tried to stop the Four Holy Swords from attacking him, but Zero soon ordered a withdrawn. After they made it to the rendezvous point, she could hear over her intercom that Zero was laughing to himself.
Aboard the Black Knight's submarine, Zero made the official announcement of the Black Knight's command structure. Kallen was overjoyed to be named the head of Zero's personal guard, but noticed he never mentioned C.C. Though some wanted to assassinate Suzaku, Zero didn't want him harmed. Diethard later met with Kallen and convinced her to take matters into her own hands and kill Suzaku for Zero. Before she could strike, Lelouch grabbed her by the shoulder to get her to help him for the party being held for Suzaku. Back aboard the submarine the next day, Zero led them on a mission to immobilize the Lancelot with Rakshata's, Gefjun Disturber. Though the trapped worked, Suzaku took Zero captive as the Avalon flew overhead. Kallen tried to get Suzaku's attention by revealing herself, he didn't notice her. There was a powerful energy wave fired from aboard the Avalon. There was an explosion, but she passed out and woke up on Kamine Island with no memory of how she arrived.
Kallen was bathing in a nearby waterfall when she was found by Suzaku. She tried to take advantage of his shock to kill him, but he avoided her attack and pinned her down. He now knew she was a member of the Black Knights. After letting her get dressed, he bound her her up. He tried to question her about Zero, but she refused to talk. She was confident he would come for her. They talked over the campfire that night about their reasons for fighting. As they walked through the woods the next day, the pair ran into Zero with Euphemia Li Britannia, the sub-viceroy of Area 11 and Cornelia's little sister. After a confrontation, the ground crumbed below them. There were Britannian forces on the island, and Zero stole the nearby Gawain KMF that belonged to Schneizel el Britannia. They escaped and left to return to the Black Knights, but she didn't go back to school or home.
Matters of Area 11 became vastly complicated quickly as forces flying the Japanese flag were approaching from the north-west. They were being led by Atsui Sawasaki, a member of the former Japanese government. Though this was being funded by the Chinese Federation and would put Japan under their control if successful. The Black Knights were not going to support this action. When Zero was asked what their objective was, he told them to make Tokyo an independent nation. As Suzaku in the Lancelot went to fight the Chinese alone, Zero in the Gawain saved him. Kallen didn't like sitting back and watching.
Opinions in Japan were scattered on who's side to take over Zero or Suzaku. Many in Kallen's group thought Zero's plan was too bold. They had heard that someone in the Ashford Academy was looking to join them. Kallen returned to the school and drew her knife to Suzaku's back while he was alone. Yet learned that he never told anyone about her. Lelouch walked in and roped her into being apart of the class' haunted house exhibit. There he found Ohgi with a lovely silver-haired woman. Later that day, Princess Euphemia arrived at the school to announce she was opening up Area 11 to be the special administrative area of Nippon where the Japanese would be given far more freedoms.
There was heavy debate among the Black Knights if they should join Euphemia's proposal. To oppose it would make them look like violent terrorists. Zero had Kallen and the rest of the Black Knights stationed outside the area of the official declaration. The stadium was packed with thousands of Japanese who had registered. Zero went into to talk with Euphemia privately, but she ran out and fired on the civilians and ordered the soldiers to kill all the Japanese. It was a slaughter of civilians, and the Black Knights moved in to attack. After Euphemia was stopped, Zero shot her. The battle became a full scale war and the plan for the independent nation was put into motion. Following Zero's lead, they took over much of the Tokyo settlement, and they used Ashford Academy as their base. Kallen with Zero went to the student council, and she revealed herself to the members to reassure them they wouldn't be harmed.
The war was intense to take over Tokyo. Kallen fought with the flight modified Lancelot. She refused to direct him to Zero. and they were in a heated fight to kill each other. Both the Black Knights and Britannian forces were suffering heavy casualties, but Zero suddenly left the battlefield. Things began to fall apart. Suzaku went after Zero, and Kallen followed on request of Ohgi. She hijacked a KMF flight transporter. Kallen followed to Kamine Island, but was shocked to see as Suzaku fired that Zero's helmet that it was Lelouch behind the mask. She started to run to Lelouch's aid when Suzaku captured him, but Suzaku asked why she should help him after using the Japanese people. She was deeply hurt and conflicted, but she ran away with the Guren.
The Black Rebellion was a failure, Ohgi and many others were captured as prisoners of war, and C.C. found Kallen some time later. She told her all about Lelouch's power of the Geass. Together, they pulled together what members they could of the Black Knights. They only found one member of the Four Holy Swords that escaped capture, Kōsetsu Urabe, and a handful of others. Suzaku had taken Lelouch to his father, the Britannian emperor Charles di Britannia. He had used his own Geass to alter Lelouch's memories to forget his life as a member of the royal family, Nunnally, and that he is Zero. He was bait for a trap to capture C.C.
C.C. and Kallen lived together as a pair of sisters while they put together their plan to revive Lelouch's memories. In the year that passed, the two had formed an odd friendship. C.C. teased Kallen on the amount of pictures she collected of Lelouch from the surveillance. Kallen showed her several images and learned more about Lelouch himself. She noticed that much of his memories had changed that his personal hobbies were the same. Kallen had something important she needed to ask from the true Lelouch. She got a call from Urabe soon after to confirm their preparations for the Babel Tower attack was complete.
Kallen got a job at the Babel Tower casino as a bunny girl to try and approach Lelouch when he came to challenge the gangster Black King to chess. She was able to make contact with him, but he didn't recognize her. The young boy with him, Rolo, that Lelouch thought was his brother was actually a watch dog from Britannia. She inadvertently got caught up when Black King tried to claim her with some other Japanese women working there. Lelouch challenged Black King to a chess match and won handily, but gangster pulled a gun and claimed Lelouch cheated. After the explosion used as the diversion, Kallen beat up both Black King and his bodyguards. She grabbed Lelouch to pull him away, but they got separated in the chaos. She went downstairs to get the Guren since the Britannian army was already sweeping in and killing everyone. By the time Kallen made it back to Lelouch, C.C. had been able to return his memories.
Lelouch was formulating a plan from the Babel Tower's security room. Kallen went to see him and held him at gun point. She wanted to know if he was only loyal to him because he used his Geass on her to do so. He only told her that she choose to believe in him, and later placed his jacket on her to cover her up since she was still just in that bunny suit. The escape plan was nearing ready, and Kallen escorted Lelouch to meet up with Urabe. They were soon attacked by a new model KMF called Vincent. Somehow, it was disappearing and reappearing in an instant all over the place. She couldn't stop it, and even when Urabe sacrificed himself it was still undamaged. Kallen was ready to sacrifice herself as well before C.C. called in that the plans were set. Lelouch triggered the precision explosives placed through the building to cut it in half and caused the rubble to form their escape route to the Chinese Federation embassy. From there, Kallen watched as the revived Zero gave his speech to the world declaring their location to the United States of Japan.
Kallen only learned later that the person on camera was actually C.C., and she taunted Kallen if she felt hurt not being in the loop. After a shower, Kallen was looking at the jacket Lelouch gave to her earlier, but then stormed off to C.C. to demand to know why she had to of been the bunny girl for their plan. She didn't even notice that the Chinese Ambassador was in there with her with his escort, Li Xingke; and she was only wearing a towel. Xingke later staged a coup to kill the ambassador, but still allied himself with the Black Knights.
The Britannains were preparing to execute Ohgi, Tohdo and many of the other Black Knights outside the walls of the Chinese Federation Embassy to lure Zero out. Kallen prepared her Guren, but had to trust Lelouch would make a move to save the others. He did come to save them using one of the same tricks from the Black Rebellion to cause all the soldiers and hostages to fall into the embassy territory. Kallen sweep through killing all the soldiers she could. She went to reunite with Ohgi and the rest, but she was worried and confused how the Vincent KMF pilot that tried to kill them before was the one who helped Lelouch.
After Kallen. C.C., and Lelouch met that evening, he had to return to Ashford put many of his watchdogs under his command. C.C. had gone to Ashford under the cover of the festival to reclaim her Cheese-kun plushie, and Kallen was forced to chase after her to bring her back. She was forced to wear a large green mascot costume to avoid being identified. She pulled Lelouch into the head to explain the situation, but had interrupted Shirley's conversation with him. Not pleased, Shirley first pulled Lelouch out then tried to take the mask off Kallen. As Kallen chased after the container that C.C. was trapped in, Shirley gave chase. She lost her in the commotion but she ran into the silver-haired woman she saw Ohgi with last year, Villetta Nu. She was the leader of the army forces watching Lelouch and posing as the P.E. teacher. Kallen told Lelouch about the connection, then Xingke picked her and C.C. up by car to return them to the embassy.
News had spread that Lelouch's sister Nunnally was to be appointed as the viceroy of Area 11. Lelouch wanted to get her out of the hands of the Britannian forces and commanded the Black Knights to attack the transport over the Pacific. Kallen in the Guren gave cover on top of the air ship, but Suzaku arrived with two of the Knights of the Round and his new Lancelot Conquista. His cannon ripped through her radiation shield and she was blown off the ship. She couldn't eject and thought she was falling to her death. Rakashata then called to her from the Black Knight's submarine that was below. Using the missile transport, they were able to upgrade the Guren in mid fall with the latest in the Black Knights flight abilities and an advanced radiation arm. The Guren Mk-II then became the Guren Flight-Enabled. Now able to fly, she made short work of the Tristan and Mordred. She held Suzaku back, but he ran off to save Nunnally from the now crashing air ship. Kallen needed to find Lelouch, but didn't know where. She saved Lelouch from falling, but was unable to save Nunnally.
Kallen watched as Nunnally gave her inauguration speech about wanting to revive the special administrative zone for much of Japan. Most of the Black Knights thought it was just another trap like with Euphemia. Kaguya Sumeragi came to meet Kallen and C.C. She thought of herself as Zero's wife, and believed that Kallen and C.C. were his mistresses. Kallen tried to call Lelouch, but he refused to answer. She went alone and found him sitting in Shinjuku where it all began. She was enraged when she saw he had a vial of Refrain in his hands. She ripped it out and smashed it on the ground. He couldn't bring himself to oppose Nunnally, but she told him to think of a new plan. He asked her to comfort him, then he tried to kiss her. She nearly let him, but slapped Lelouch to try and knock him to his senses. She was crying as she pleaded for him to play his role as Zero an ran away. She stopped to see if he followed after her, but he didn't. She went back to the sub, and C.C. tried to explain the burden of being Zero. The Black Knights were attacked as they were on the ocean by Suzaku and the navy, but Lelouch called out for Kallen on the sub. He saved them by ordering them to fire torpedoes at the methane hydrate plants to immobilize the navy ships. As Zero, he then announced the Black Knights would cooperate with Nunnally's plan.
Many of the Black Knights were skeptical as to why they should cooperate with this plan, but Lelouch convinced him with his ultimate goal. All one million of Zero's followers gathered at the event of registration. Kallen was mixed in the crowd. Lelouch had made an under the table deal that Zero would be pardoned and allowed to leave Japan. The Black Knights all triggered smoke canisters to create a cover. When it cleared, everyone was wearing a costume of Zero, and Britannia had to let them all leave since they had no way of knowing which was the real one. The boarded the Chinese Federation ships that came to take them to Horai Island to use as their new home.
Kallen was alone with Lelouch doing some set up of their Ikaruga. She was happy to see he was back to his old self, but tripped and fell over as she remembered their near kiss. She fell on top of him and once again they found their lips nearly touching. Neither moved for a moment. Kallen asked why he returned to them, but he only asked her to return to Ashford with him when they won this battle. C.C. then appeared to interrupt what he was saying as she was watching them and eating pizza. They were called to a meeting. The Chinese empress Tian Zi was being married off to one of Britannia's princes, Odysseus eu Britannia. If this was to happen, they would lose their new affiliation with the Chinese Federation. Kallen joined Lelouch and Kaguya as security for the engagement party.
Kallen and C.C. both posed as dancers to entertain the Luoyang Garrison. After giving their show, they introduced their elder sister "Luluko". This was actually Lelouch in disguise. They both couldn't help teasing Lelouch a bit, but Kallen was a little shocked their leader, Hanshiwan, didn't seem too concerned when he Lelouch was exposed as a man. This was all a plow to allow Lelouch to use his Geass on the entire corrupt garrison leaders before they staged their attack.
Before the marriage could take place the next day, Xingke tried to stop the wedding, but Zero took Tian Zi hostage first. Kallen use the Guren Flight-Enabled to cover Lelouch's escape with the empress back to the Ikaruga. Soon after arriving, Xingke attacked with his KMF the Shen Hu. Just as the fight was turning on Kallen's side, her Energy Filler went empty. She was captured. She called to Lelouch to apologize, but he cut her off. She sounded panicked and promised that he would save her. Both her and the rest of the Black Knights were shocked at how worried he had sounded.
After Xingke took Kallen hostage, she was removed from the Guren and the Eunuch Generals handed her and the Guren over to Schneizel el Britannia. Though Lelouch won the battle and assisted Xingke in overthrowing the Eunuchs, she was taken back to Japan as a prisoner of war. They put her in prisoner bindings and put in jail at the Tokyo governor's fortress. The Guren was given to Lloyd Asplund.
While in the jails of the Tokyo settlement, Kallen was prepared to be tortured or executed, but she was surprised when the person who came to see her was Nunnally. She had Kallen moved to a private high security cell and was given an elegant yellow gown to wear in place of normal prisoner restraints. Nunnally would often come to visit Kallen alone, and they got along well. They would gossip about their own brothers to each other, and Kallen was learning about the more tender side of Lelouch.
Suzaku came to visit Kallen one day and was blaming Lelouch for the recent murder of Shirley. Kallen refused to believe that or give Suzaku any information about this Zero being Lelouch. Suzaku showed he had a vial of Refrain that he was willing to used on Kallen to force the information out of her, but he backed out on using it at the last moment before injecting her.
Though Suzaku came back later to apologize, Kallen's response was to beat his senseless. She spent a few minutes punching him. It pissed her off even more that he wasn't even fighting back. Later that day while Kallen and Nunnally were talking, the killer of the Knights of the Round, Luciano Bradley, arrived, and he was threatening to harm Kallen in some way. Another Rounds member, Gino Weinberg, showed up to send Luciano away.
Nunnally would continue to visit for their chats, but Gino came one day with one of the Ashford photo albums. He had been going through and noticed that some images were missing. He mistakenly thought that Suzaku had removed images of him and Kallen together. The actual motive was removing pictures of Nunnally since Charles di Britannia had altered the student council's memories. Kallen's attentions were on the pictures of Lelouch in school. Gino seemed to be trying to tempt Kallen to join their forces. This conversation was interrupted as the Black Knights led by Zero was waging a full out war on Tokyo. Gino left with the intent on killing Zero.
Kallen was rescued from a summary execution firing squad by Lelouch's former maid and bodyguard of Nunnally, Sayoko Shinozaki. She was on orders from Lelouch to free her, then she was taken to the Guren so she could join the battle outside. They found that the Guren had been highly modified by Lloyd Asplund with much of his technologies and was renamed the Guren S.E.I.T.E.N.. After changing clothes, Kallen piloted the new Guren through the fortress and decimated everyone in her path. This was easily the most powerful KMF in history now. She arrived just in time to save Lelouch from Luciano. She easily defeated the Vampire of Britannia and disintegrated him. Kallen then battled Suzaku's Lancelot Conquista, but he was no match for Kallen. Suzaku evaded just before Kallen could kill him and he fired the fusion bomb FLEIJA into Tokyo. It took out much of the settlement and killing thousands, including Nunnally who was still in the governor's fortress.
Kallen could hear the grief in Lelouch's voice as he tried to order the Black Knights to find Nunnally, but Tohdo ordered the army to fall back. Kallen went to go see Lelouch in his room, but was taken aback from the way C.C. was talking about servicing him. She demanded to know what they had been doing while she was in jail, but he quickly explained that C.C. had lost her memories. She had reverted to the slave girl she once was before she was given her powers.
Ohgi had asked Kallen to lead Zero to one of the Ikaruga's warehouses but didn't say for what. With Nunnally dead and the C.C. they knew gone. She knew he was really alone. Before she could say anything in the elevator, Lelouch suddenly apologized for not coming to save her earlier. Just as they were beginning to talk, the Black Knights ambushed them. Schneizel had exposed Zero as a former Britannian prince and his power of Geass. Kallen shielded Lelouch from their aim, but they thought she was under his power. She was willing to die here with Lelouch but asked him what she meant to him. He removed his masks and started laughing maniacally. He claimed he had only been using them all. Kallen was heartbroken, but as soon as she was clear of the line of fire she heard Lelouch whisper to her, "You must live on.". She quickly tried to stop the Black Knights from firing, but Lelouch was saved by someone piloting the Shinkirou and escaped.
C.C. had gone missing and none of the Black Knights wouldn't listen to Kallen. To avoid any confusion, the Black Knights reported that Zero had been wounded in the battle and had died from his injuries.
The Black Knights had joined with the Britannian Forces and had followed reports that Lelouch and Emperor Charles was on Kamine Island. Though the Black Knights wanted to kill Lelouch, Kallen needed to see him to get an answer for the important question she had. Both had gone missing from the island and were never seen leaving.
After a month, Kallen watched with the Black Knights as the news was reporting on a speech being given by the Britannian emperor, but who walked out was Lelouch. He declared he had killed his father and taken the throne. Suzaku was appointed his Knight of Zero, then he used his Geass on the entire royal family to acknowledge his rule. In the passing days, Kallen watched the reports of Lelouch crushing any descent in the Britannian homeland, and made the announcement that he would have Britannia join the United Federation after Suzaku defeated the lash Knights of the Round left loyal to former Emperor Charles.
The meeting was to take place on the rebuilt Ashford Academy. Kallen wanted to be the one to speak to Lelouch first and told the Black Knights they were free to kill her if they thought she was under Lelouch's Geass. When Emperor Lelouch arrived, he acted as if they had never met before, and asked if she would take him on a tour before the meeting. When they were alone at the Ashford Student Council building, he dropped the act. She talked with him about how grateful she was to him for saving her from a self destructive past, but she was still suspicious of what he was doing with Suzaku. At the top of the stairs, she spun around and pleaded with him to know what she meant to him and why he told her to live on at the Ikaruga. She refused to say anything. In desperation to get an answer, she kissed him. It was only then she realized that she wasn't loyal to Lelouch. She's in love with him, but was committed to the Black Knights and Japan. She said farewell to Lelouch and walked away. At the meeting, Suzaku arrived to help Lelouch take the United Federation leaders hostage, and Xingke ordered Kallen to fall back.
Soon after Lelouch left, Nunnally was revealed to be alive and with prince Schneizel aboard the Damocles. Schneizel's forces joined with the United Federation's Black Knights to face off against Lelouch's army. Kallen then teamed up with Gino to strike and Lelouch's aircraft. She broke into the the Avalon and with tears in her eyes aimed to strike and kill Lelouch. She was stopped by C.C. in the Lancelot Frontier. The two did battle outside. Kallen asked C.C. why she was helping Lelouch, but added that if she said she loved him that she wouldn't forgive her. Kallen destroyed the Lancelot Frontier, C.C. ejected, and Kallen went back into the battle.
Kallen next fought with Suzaku in the Lancelot Albion around the Damocles. It was a heated fight of back and forth that neither could get the upper hand on. The radiation arm was destroyed in the fight, but Kallen won by piercing the Guren S.E.I.T.E.N.'s arm through the Albion's chest and into the cockpit. It exploded with Suzaku inside. Kallen lost power, and she was falling to the ground. She was caught and saved by Gino. Lelouch took control of the Damocles, and the Black Knights were all arrested as he conquered the rest of the world.
Kallen was among the members of the Black Knights and Nunnally Lelouch was displaying on his parade through the Tokyo Settlement, He was taking them to be executed, but the precession stopped as Zero stood in the road. With Lelouch and Zero in the same location, she quickly realized what Lelouch had done. Suzaku was dressed as Lelouch and drove a sword into Lelouch's chest for the world to see. Before Tohdo could reveal that Suzaku was in the Zero costume, she declared that was the true Zero. Though she was holding back her tears as she watched Lelouch die in the arms of his little sister.
Lelouch and purposely made himself into a villain for the whole world to hate ad united against. With his death, the war had ended. Kallen got her mother out of jail and they moved into an apartment. She also went to the wedding of Ohgi and Villetta Nu, and they were expecting their first child. Though she still pilots the Guren, she went back to Ashford Academy for her mother. Only this time she no longer had to pretend to be someone she wasn't. She kept a picture of Lelouch in her room.
Kallen is easily one of the most gifted and deadliest Knightmare Frame pilots in the world. It's unknown exactly when, but Kallen has been a fan/geek when it comes to KMFs at a young age. This developed into a love for the models in the machines, and when her brother's insurgent group got their hands on a black market Glasgow. It was given to Kallen to pilot. Even with little experience or practice, Kallen proved to be a skilled fighter in what was at the time an obsolete model. She was later given a more modern Burai, but that was too damaged after a battle to be used. Kallen's true skills as a KMF pilot were revealed when he was given the Guren Mk-II, the first Japanese KMF. She poured herself into learning everything about this Frame and was often seen reading the manual and even worked hard in the combat simulator. He skills with this Guren were high enough to fight on an equal footing with Suzaku's Lancelot, that had been recently upgraded with a float system.
Her diligent study would pay off after the Guren was upgraded in mid battle to the Guren Flight-Enabled, but her true prowess in war was shown after she reclaimed the upgraded Guren S.E.I.T.E.N., the most powerful KMF in history. With this Frame, she was able to best several of the Britannian's elite Knights of the Rounds. Suzaku was only able to survive in battle against Kallen do to his Live Geass suggestion.
Kallen is a skilled fighter in hand to hand combat. It's unknown who she was trained by, but she has incredible agility and strength for her small stature. Single-handedly, Kallen took out both the Black King and his two armed guards.
Kallen also uses a custom pouch that she has a retractable knife hidden inside. She keeps this on her at all times, and she's willing to use it to keep her secret identity.
Kallen's skills with KMFs are not limited to being a pilots. She has also able to conduct regular maintenance and repairs. She's an example of a pilots who takes a hands on approach to the machine she uses. After the Guren Mk-II's radiation arm was damaged, she was able to aquired and attach another radiation arm.
It was most likely during Kallen's time in her brother's small insurgent group that she learned how to use and properly maintain firearms.
Kallen is often mistaken as an aggressive brute due to her skills in combat. In fact, Kallen has a sharp mind and was able to keep some of the highest grades in her class despite frequent absences.

With the release of the final DVD for the R2 season. Several extras were published with the disc. Some were sheets of poems that were designed as if they were written by the characters. Most of them were about a characters thoughts or feelings about Lelouch. The titles of all these poems were the same as the anime's opening and ending theme songs.
Chivalrous Youth Song 勇侠青春謳 Yūkyō Seishun Ka

(not an official translation)
勇侠青春謳
" Until I met you, I was only merely covered with thorns.
I wanted to change this truth.
I seethingly and recklessly acted, then I didn’t believe that anything would come out of it.
When my brother was gone,
I heard the sound of the heavy doors closing behind me.
I cannot allow it. I will fight to the bitter end. I decided that I would not go back.
Then, someday, I would have died like my brother.
Until the very end, Kallen Kōzuki would not abide by authority.
That bit of willpower I was carrying with me, slipped away from me, and I can feel it faintly.
At that moment, I envisioned you as the star at the break of dawn, calling to me.
If I would think that this is for you, my body would feel light.
Whatever struggles there were, the pain would go away.
I would be the first to come rushing to your battlefield,
raging like a lioness, and crushing your enemies.
I would stand being muddied so that I could create a path for you.
Looking back, it's mysterious.
Even though I should have loathed and rebelled against Britannia's tyranny.
Without knowing it, I held personal devotion only for you.
Lelouch, about that parting kiss,
even if it was a lie, if you had said, "I love you,".
I would even follow you to hell.
You knew that, didn't you?
That's not like you.
You're good at manipulating people just by your words.
Really, it's not like you to be kind.
Is that why you told me to 'live on'?
I fell in love with you not just because of that kindness. "
A minor controversy occurred near the finale of the R2 season. Character cards were being prepared for release in Japan. There were preview images leaked online of these cards. Each one had a small quote that was emblazoned across all the cards. They appeared to be person quotes for the character. The ones that got the most attention were four cards for some of the female cast; including C.C., Kallen, Nunnally, and Anya. The validity of these lines were not in question, since on a few occasions the lines hadn't been spoken yet by the character when the images were released.
The line on Kallen's card was never spoken though. It said:
" If you say something like 'I love you (or him/her/someone)', I won't forgive you. "
「愛してるなんて言ったら許さないから」
When the cards were officially released after the last episode aired, none of the lines were present on any of the cards. They were replaced by the characters' names in English.
The word used for "love" in this card was aishiteru (愛してる). Normally, one in Japan would use the word suki (好き). "Aishiteru" is closer to saying "deep love" while "Suki" is "like".
It's unknown when or why this line was changed. Judging from the context, this line was most likely suppose to of been said when Kallen fought against C.C. in the Lancelot Frontier. It's possible that Kallen's line was suppose to be directed to C.C. As if Kallen was to say to C.C. during their fight, "If you say something like, 'I love him.', I wont forgive you.". Implying that Kallen wouldn't forgive C.C. if C.C. was to say she loves him [Lelouch].
