Summary

Opening Theme-

Kakashi asks Orochimaru what he's doing here, and Orochimaru responds by saying that he didn't come for Kakashi, he came for Sasuke. Orochimaru notices that Kakashi is different from when they last saw each other. He mentions that Kakashi now has a Sharingan, and Orochimaru explains that he wants one too. Orochimaru is after the power of the Uchiha.

The episode cuts back to the preliminary fight between Zaku and Shino. Everyone is staring down intently at the cloud of dust where Shino should be, and Zaku looks confident that Shino has been defeated. As the dust clears we can see Shino standing up, which surprises Zaku and his teammates. Shino raises his head, and bugs can be seen crawling out from his coat and from underneath his skin. His face is swarming with bugs. Zaku looks back over his shoulder, and is shocked to see that the floor behind him is covered with bugs, and they are inching their way towards him. Shino explains that they are called Kikai bugs. They attack their prey in swarms, and they consume chakra. Shino says that if he attacks with all of those bugs, then Zaku will never be able to fight again. Shino tells Zaku to give up. If Zaku attacks Shino, then the bugs will attack him from behind, but if he attacks the bugs then Shino will attack him from behind. There is a close up of Zaku's face, and then a flashback. A younger Zaku is running down a street, carrying something in his arms. Two men chase after him, yelling for someone to stop him and calling Zaku a thief. Zaku turns a corner into an alley, and is met with a dead end. The two men corner Zaku, and beat him. Then they leave Zaku alone. Zaku eats the loaf of bread that he stole, and as he is leaving Orochimaru confronts him. Orochimaru offers to make Zaku stronger, if he goes with him. Zaku leaves with Orochimaru.

Zaku comes out of his flashback, and is still cornered between Shino and his army of bugs. Zaku has yet another flashback, this time he is fighting an unnamed ninja. Zaku easily kills him and he leaves a crater between him and his adversary. The flashbacks continue as we see Sasuke break Zaku's arms in the forest of death. It now returns to the fight where Zaku announces that he can't screw up anymore, and he orders Shino not to underestimate him. Zaku points his good arm at Shino, but then he takes his other arm out of his sling and points it at the bugs. Now Shino is that one that's cornered. Just as Zaku is about to fire air slicers, we go to the back room, and return to Kakashi and Orochimaru.

Orochimaru tells Kakashi that he is the leader of the newly formed Sound Village. And Orochimaru refers to the village as the arms and legs he needs to accomplish his goals, and that the Sound is one of many pieces. Zaku is shown, just about to fire off his jutsu. Kakashi asks if Sasuke is one of the pieces, to which Orochimaru answers that Sasuke is the supreme piece, and the pieces taking the exam right now are nothing but sacrifices. The chakra in Zaku's arms builds up, and explodes. Shino's bugs blocked off the holes in his palm, and Zaku's arms are now useless. Shino punches Zaku in the face, and sends him sliding across the floor. Orochimaru is shown walking towards Kakashi, who fires up a chidori and warns Orochimaru not to come any closer to Sasuke. Orochimaru laughs at Kakashi, and says that what Kakashi says and what he does don't agree with each other. Orochimaru says that Kakashi knows there was no point in using the seal, because Sasuke has a heart that will seek power, no matter how evil it is. He says that Sasuke is an avenger. Orochimaru explains that Sasuke will eventually seek him out, for power. He then turns to leave, and dares Kakashi to kill him, if he can. Orochimaru disappears, and Kakashi appears to be shaking.

Gekkou examines Zaku's arms, which have a bunch of tiny holes where the chakra burst out. He declares Shino the winner. On the balcony Neji uses his byakugan to observe Shino. Neji is shocked to find that the bugs didn't come from a summoning jutsu, but they actually live inside Shino. Gai and Neji explain that Shino is from a clan that lends their bodies to the bugs upon their birth. The bugs are controlled with the clan members mind, and they fight for him. In exchange the bugs feed off the host's chakra. Dosu explains to Kin what happened to Zaku's arms. When Shino stuffed the bugs in the air holes on his palms, and Zaku attempted to use his jutsu, the chakra built up in his arms and need to find an exit, so it expanded and ripped through Zaku's arms.

Zaku is taken out on a stretcher and Shino returns to his team. Kakashi returns to stand behind Naruto and Sakura who inquires about Sasuke. Kakashi says that right now he is sleeping in the hospital, and then darkly reveals that he has Anbu escorts with him. Gekkou steps forward to announce the competitors for the next fight, and they are Tsurugi Misumi and Kankorou. They step forward, and both combatants vow to end the match quickly.
