Kaby Melon

Origin

He is the son of a famous writer, Zekua Melon. When he thought his father was gone forever, his father return home and cut off his hand, so he cannot write anymore. Kaby finds out that his father had written a book for Duke Everlue. He is disgusted that his father had did it for money. Before Natsu and Lucy came along, Kaby is ashamed of his father.

Creation

Kaby Melon is created by Hiro Mashima, and he has no information regarding any inspiration used to create him. He first appears in Fairy Tail volume 2 and episode 3. His Japanese voice actor is Shiro Gou while his English voice actor is Dave Trosko.

Evolution

Despite the fact that Kaby is ashamed of his father, Lucy and Natsu change his view of his father once Lucy reveals the hidden messages that Zekua had stored inside of the book. It turns out that Zekua used magic to hide his love for his son to Duke Everlue. The book Day Break is actually titled Dear Kaby.

Story Arcs

As Lucy, Happy, and Natsu come to Kaby's aid, Kaby explains that he has increased the price of the job which shocks the young mages. Kaby tells them to destroy the book no matter what.

When Lucy, Happy, and Natsu return with the book, Day Break, intact, Kaby asks them why they did not burn it. Lucy reveals the hidden messages of the book. Zekua Melon is a famous writer and a mage who scrambled the words to fool Duke Everlue. Day Break is actually a book called Dear Kaby that tells how much Zekua loves his son. After reading the book, Kaby and his wife cry with tears streaming on their faces. Natsu decides to not take the money much to Lucy and Kaby's surprise. His reasons is that they did not destroy the book which means the job is not fulfilled.

In reality, Kaby and his wife are not rich. According to Natsu's strong sense of smell, Natsu notices Kaby and his wife's scent does not match the house's scent. Kaby rents that room from a friend of his. Although the prize money is not claim due to Natsu's honor, Kaby waves good bye to the mages and is forever grateful to them.
