Sankaku Complex is reporting a rumor that K-On! may be getting adapted into a live-action drama. Now, when even Sankaku calls potentially big news like that a "rumor" you know it's iffy...but on the other hand, given the popularity of the anime, it's feasible that Kadokawa would be considering reaching out into the more mainstream Japanese audience of the live-action world. Unfortunately, the above image is a bit too small for me to try and translate.
I will say, the girls in the photo look considerably less dumb-- err, less moe --than the girls of the anime. And hey, if they got actresses who really played instruments, and a good composer (maybe even Hajime Hyakkoku, the composer for the anime), it could turn into a really strong franchise...with even more opportunities for CDs, live concerts, etc. Business-wise, the move would actually make a lot of sense.
But do you think the story would catch on outside of the otaku-verse?
