Plot

Ritsu Tainaka and Mio Akiyama are childhood friends starting their first year in high school. Ritsu, wants to revive the school's "Light Music Club" or "Keion", since she plays drums and wants to make a band and have fun! Since a club needs at least four members to be recognized by the school, Ritsu takes it upon herself to recruit new members. Despite Mio's shyness and reluctance, Ritsu convinces Mio to join the club as well. Mio plays bass guitar. Tsumugi Kotobuki (or just Mugi) is also in the same year as Ritsu and Mio, and also ends up joining the Light Music Club too since it seems like fun. Mugi happily brings tea and snacks to the club room for them to share. Tsumugi plays the keyboard. That makes three members.

Yui Hirasawa is also starting her first year in high school, in the same school as Ritsu, Mio and Mugi. Yui, because of her carefree and often clumsy nature, has a hard time finding a club that suits her. Upon seeing an advertisement for the Light Music Club, she thinks that the most "music" she will be playing is the castanets. Thinking that this is just right for her, she goes to the club's room and tells Ritsu she wants to join. Little does she know, she will have to pick up and learn a musical instrument, the guitar.

K-on! follows the adventures and activities of the few members of the Light Music Club in and out of school. Some things that happen in the series include: raising money for Yui's first guitar, Mio overcoming her shyness, band practice at Mugi's summer cottage, getting a new band member, unraveling who the previous members of the Light Music Club and what they were like, celebrating Christmas, naming their "band" and of course performing an end-of-the-year concert in front of the rest of the school!

	Yui Hirasawa (平沢 唯 Hirasawa Yui) Voiced by: Aki Toyosaki Stephanie Sheh Role: Lead Guitar, Main Vocals Gender: Female
	The main character. Yui wants to join the light music club under the impression that "light" meant it would be simple, and despite knowing how to play no instruments, ends up joining anyway to keep the club running. Yui is laid back, clumsy, and often absent-minded. She does however have perfect-pitch, meaning she can tune her guitar without a tuner, and she has great focus and retention when focusing on one thing at a time.
