When JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURE Gets Really Gross...

I suppose it was only inevitable. Between Kakyoin’s cherry “luh-luh-luh-luh-luh” tick and Polnareff’s peak-a-boo with the piggy, we were going to see Araki’s odd… interests colliding sooner or later in this arc.

Speaking from experience, I can tell you that the squatters you run into throughout Asia really are that nasty to deal with. The show doesn’t go into great detail about how they work (thankfully), but when you’re at one of these things, you literally have to squat over the bowel and keep your balance as you take care of business (and hopefully avoid falling over, or getting any mess on yourself). Reaching for toilet paper is more difficult, of course. It’s usually out of reach, if it’s there at all. Actually, as I recall, you’re sometimes expected to use the squatter like a bidet, too, and wipe yourself with the toilet water.

So, needless to say, I have some very vivid memories of seeing some absolutely filthy squatters. And when Enyaba forces Polnareff to lick one clean, it’s an especially pointed piece of horror for me.

Ahem…

Anyway, it’s interesting that Jojo #3 is the one to save the day this time (and not just because Star Platinum inhalation of Justice is a rather inspired solution). When you step back from it, he hasn’t really been the focus of this arc. The first and second arcsshined almost entirely on Jojo #1 and #2. Adding these other Stardust Crusaders, and giving them commiserate screen time, has really made this more of a team book than what the title would suggest. Indeed, Jojo #3 has mostly been downplayed.

Part of that has to do with the character, I guess. Jojo #2 had a tendency to talk too much, while Jojo #3 is so anti-social that he doesn’t even seem to especially like talking. Hell, most of the time, it’s like he’s hanging back and letting the other Stardust Crusaders lead the way, and he’ll only intervene to fish them out of trouble.

Of course, given the fate Polnareff suffers here, that might actually be the shrewder strategy…

Watch "Justice Part 2" and decide for yourself, then read my comments on the previous episode.

Yep! Don't ever want to hear about squat toilets ever again!

OH, BTW, I don't count this as a spoiler, so I will tell you that in later episodes, the link between Hamoan and Stands is casually tied together. No big explanation or anything, but it feels like a prelude to a longer discussion that will be had in later JoJos.

Not really. Stand is written as yuhamon in japanese and read as "ghostly ripple" but it's pretty irrelevant. For all intents and purposes, Stands are their own thing and the Ripple is obsolete.

I will never be comfortable with squat toilets. Squatting to use the restroom outdoors makes sense because particles have lots of room to disperse and be degraded by nature, but squatting in an enclosed space is just asking for unsanitary trouble

Bathroom Humor is well known. But Bathroom Horror not so much. So no one else got the subtle joke about the French kiss? Maybe to much of a hybrid humor to heavy on horror thing.

Agree here with Tom about the 3rd Jojo's role. He almost feels like a final boss for the group in a way. Granpa JoJo has more lines than the 3rd over all seems.

This episode may be gross, but it was pretty entertaining for me. Polnareff slowly became my most favorite character in Jojo.

@rubberluffy: Not according to Joseph Joestar it's not obsolete! It comes in handy.

In a future episode, they describe a Stand as solid light energy. Please don't quote me on that, but I think that gets the point across.

Jotaro doesn't talk much because he's always thinking up new one-liners to own fools with. Because he's a huge dork. There's a pretty funny manga edit regarding this, but it's for a scene from the latest episode. Will post it in the discussion thread.

@rubberluffy: Those one-liners doe!!!

@rubberluffy: Cool would appreciate it. Does the manga explain the uniforms gold chain?

Araki makes all his characters dress weirdly. Also, Jotaro is a dork, he probably thinks it's totally badass (and I bet his mother told him it was, too). The real question is how does he stiffen the collar so it's strong enough to hold it up? And what kind of wizard-tailor did he find in the middle of nowhere that could replace hsi jacket after the Fortune fight?

@rubberluffy: I think that Jotaro's stand has a third arm, and that arm is so fast that it's invisible. It does boring tasks, though, like holding up Jotaro's collar, so the massive chain will not fold it down.

@rubberluffy: Would be surprised where one can find a good tailor. Have seen patches made in a village with no electricity that make the military ones look like a poor knock off. Collar looks to me like its 3 layers staggered down. So that would give it some stiffness. The chain tho unless its wielded like my cane ( which is made of chain ) then its glued or one piece? Cant recall seeing the links move.

@YotaruVegeta: Thing about his stand tho is how far can it go from him. In the jail it stole stuff for him. But we rarely see it more than a few feet from him. An yeah its possible it could hold the collar an chain as fast as it is.

@Marshal Victory: I can just imagine an incredibly exhausted Stat Platinum, constantly holding that collar still.

@YotaruVegeta: That would explain his bored expression to.

which is sad sad sad and crazy that we let him get away with just changing the rules like this without a real explanation. Terrible world building. Ah well....the stories are at least still interesting. And really the misstype bowel for I assume bowl..(though I suppose you are squatting over your bowel in a way) is hilarious.....don't change it. No love for pal's terrible act of asking about her son...and her misplaced revenge for an evil son? I found both things hilarious.
