Jiraiya: Naruto's Potential Disaster! - おお, のォ〜っ!自来也の女難, ナルトの災難 (Ō, nō~! Jiraiya no jonan, Naruto no sainan)

Jiraiya and Naruto are on a journey to find Tsunade, one of the legendary Sannin. Jiraiya's purpose is both to protect Naruto from the clutches of the mysterious organization the Akatsuki and to train his apprentice.

Summary

Opening Theme-

On the road in the Land of Fire, Naruto bugs Jiraiya about the new jutsu he's going to teach him. It finally gets on his nerves and he tells Naruto to stop calling him Pervy Sage. That he doesn't understand just how great he is. When Naruto calls him a superb Pervy Sage, Jiraiya becomes frustrated and makes a dramatic show of summoning a giant toad, but Naruto is still unimpressed.

Later, Naruto is checking the road signs and sees that Atafuku Town is another 10km away, and Jiraiya corrects him that it's read "Otafuku Town". Excited that he's traveling with someone so prominent, Naruto asks why he was chosen. He tells him that he was the teacher of the Fourth Hokage and that Naruto resembles him to an extreme degree. That's the only reason. With this bit of news, Naruto shoots off ahead screaming with excitement. He thinks since they look the same that they share the same in skill. He leaps for joy, but doesn't pay attention to the ground and accidentally lands foot first in an animal turd on the road. Jiraiya points out the only thing his shares with the Fourth Hokage is their hair and stubbornness. Nartuo fire back, calling Jiraiya a senile Pervy Sage and steps in the dog crap again.

Back at the Hidden Leaf Village, the people are working hard to repair much of the destruction. Sakura Haruno is cleaning up outside her mother's shop when he's called to by her mom. he's asked to deliver a package rice sweets to Ino Yamanaka's home. Along the way, she think she can bring some to Sasuke and wonders if he even lies sweets. She even considers taking some to Naruto. She suddenly remembers a time when Naruto asked Kakashi to teach him the Chidori. She was standing in the distance watching with Sasuke as kakashi tried to humor Naruto. She thanks Sasuke for saving her during the fight with Gaara. He says it wasn't him but Naruto. Sakura laughs at the idea, thinking Sasuke is just trying to be modest. She knows Naruto is getting stronger, but doesn't think it's possible he could of handled those Sand Ninja by himself. He shoots back that it's the truth. Naruto fought desperately to save her. Shocked at this news, she looks to Naruto who's struggling to focus any chakra at his hand and failing. Back at the street, Sakura settles on bringing some to Naruto.

Elsewhere, Sasuke is practicing with his Chidori. Frustrated about his inability to do anything. He thinks back to the fight he and Naruto had with Gaara. How it was Naruto that stood up to same Sakura. He still feels in the shadow of this brother, Itachi.

In the deep forest, Itachi and his Akatsuki partner, Kisame, are standing on a rocky outcropping. They talk about the poor odds of fighting Jiraiya to claim Naruto. No matter their numbers they face almost certain defeat. Though, Itachi knows that even the strongest opponent has a weakness to be exploited.

Some time later, Naruto and Jiraiya rest by a roadside shrine and Naruto plays with the prayer bells. He goes on the ask Jiraiya what kind of student the Fourth Hokage was. He answers that the Fourth Hokage probably got as far as he did because he was his student, and that Naruto is lucky to have him as a master. Naruto is dubious of this answer, but Jiraiya tells him that good students come from good teachers. Naruto asks how taught him and Jiraiya says he was a student of the Third Hokage. Jiraiya now asks him that if he was taught by Kakashi that he must of had the bell training. Naruto says yes, and remembers all the pain he went through and how he was tied to a post in the end. Jairaiya is surprised when he hears that Naruto was tied up, as well; and has to evade when Naruto ask what he meant by "as well".

Young Tsunade and Orochimaru during training

Jiraiya remembers back when he was having his bell training with a young Tsunade and Orochimaru. The Third Hokage was just known as Hiruzen Sarutobi at the time. Much of the same things that happened to Naruto also happened to Jiraiya. A yong Tsunade taunts Jiraiya with the bell she caught. He shots back calling her flat-chested. Enraged, she grabs him and calls him a 'pervy nerd'. They start to kick at one another and Sarutobi has to break them up. He sends Orochimaru and Tsunade home. Still tied up at sunset, Sarutobi calls Jiraiya hopeless for getting caught in such obvious traps over and over. That he should learn from Orochimaru, but Jiraiya is sick of hearing that. That when it comes to peeping, he's great at the Transparency Jutsu. Sarutobi is skeptical, but Jiraiya says that he's never once been caught. Sarutobi says if he's so sure that perhaps he should join Jiraiya next time, and Jiraiya aks if he's a lecher.

Jiraiya chuckles to himself over the memories, and Naruto wants to know what's so funny. He just says that good teachers make good students.

At the Hidden Leaf Village, Asuma, Kurenai, and Might Guy look over the injured Kakashi. Guy comments that the Akatsuki haven't found Naruto yet, but Asuma thinks that strange given how easily they sneaked into the village, Finding Naruto in the village shouldn't be so hard. That Itachi must know his face, but Guy warns Asume as Sasuke enters the room looking for Kakashi. He's surprised to see three jonin surrounding a sleeping Kakashi. He demands to know what happened, and Guy tries to blow it off as nothing special. Suddenly, a chunin in sunglasses bursts in asking if it's true that Itachi was in the village and that he's after Naruto. Guy glares at him, and only now does the man notice Sasuke in the room. Kurenai calls him an idiot. Sasuke suddenly realizes what was said, and he bursts form the room. Guy becomes frustrated why this kind of stuff keep happening.

Sasuke is running through the village in a flash to find his brother. The first palce he goes to is Naruto's home. There he runs into Sakura just leaving. She's startled to see him, and he demands to know where Naruto is. She explains that she only just arrived and he's not home, but before she can finish talking Sasuke runs off. Next, Sasuke tries Ichiraku Ramen. Sasuke asks inside, and Teuchi says that the last he saw Naruto that he was talking to Jiraiya about leaving the village. When Jiraiya asks who Jiraiya is, Teuchi tells him he's one of the three legendary Sannin. That he looks like a old man with big white-hair. With this information, Sasuke leave. Teuchi says that if he was going to ask questions that he could of stayed for some ramen.

Later in Otafuku Town, Naruto is taken by just how strange everyone is. As they get a room to stay in, an beautiful women walks by the entrance that catches their eyes and she tempts the boys. Jiraiya makes Naruto stay in their room while he goes to have fun with the lady. Telling his to train his chakra then get some sleep. Well away from town, Sasuke rushes to find Naruto before Itachi. Naruto is upset in the room as he focuses his chakra.

Itachi Uchiha finds Naruto alone

Sasuke arrives in town but it's so crowded. He can only check door to door. Elsewhere in town, Jiraiya is enjoying his date. Naruto is still sulking in his room. At different boarding houses and hotels, Sasuke asks if they have a blond kind with a stupid face about his own age staying with an older man with white hair. Every few minutes Naruto has made more Shadow Clones, but now they are mostly all asleep. Sasuke comes to another hotel where he finally finds the owner saying that they have guests matching the discription Sasuke gives. Once he has the room number, Sasuke is off to find Naruto. He reaches the end of the hall, and there is a knock on the door to Naruto's room. He thinks it's Jiraiya and opens the door. When the door Sasuke is standing at start to open, he yanks it wide and calls out to Naruto, but it's the wrong blond boy with an older man with white hair. When Naruto opens his door at another inn, the person standing before him is Itachi Uchiha. Naruto is now frozen as he looks into the eyes of the Sharingan.

Points of Interest

• The crow that is flying in the background cries out "Ahoo", the Japanese word that means "fool" or "idiot".
• Sakura's mother has been heard, but never seen.
• Gaara is only seen this episode in a flashback while he was using the Shukaku spirit.
• In this episode, Tsunade and Orochimaru are seen in the flashback of Jiraiya's memories. Each of them have separate voice actors for their Japanese actor than their standard voice. For the English dubs, Only Tsunade is given a different voice actress. Steven Blum, who voices Orochimaru, still performs the voice.
• In this episode, the Fourth Hokage, Obito Uchiha, and Rin are all seen in a picture inside Kakashi's home. This marks the first time either Rin or Obito are seen in the anime.
• It's confirmed in this episode that Kakashi was a student of the Fourth Hokage.
• Teuchi's daughter Ayame is seen in this episode, but has no spoken lines.
