Jimbei was a highly regarded member of the royal guard for the Ryugu Kingdom on Fish-Man Island. He would often guard over Queen Otohime. He eventually left the military to join Fisher Tiger, a fish-man he greatly admired growing up, to join his pirate crew, the Sun Pirates. Many of the members were fish-men who were former slaves Tiger had personally freed. Tiger was unfortunately ambushed by the Navy while he was returning Koala, a young human girl, to her home town. Jimbei rescued Tiger, be he passed away from his injuries, becasue he refused the blood of humans. Before he died, he revealed to the crew that he had been a slave during his earlier adventures.
Jimbei took over leadership of the Sun Pirates, and his power caught the attention of the World Government. They were offering him a position among the Seven Warlords. To the surprise of the Sun Pirates, he accepted the position, on the condition of giving amnesty to his crew. That also included freeing Arlong, who had tried and failed to avenge Tiger by attacking Koala's village. Arlong left for the East Blue, and the rest of the crew went their own way.
After Otohime was assassinated as she was trying to bring integration between fish-men and humans, Jimbei tried to cover up her killer was a human, but Hody Jones, one of the soldiers, refused and revealed the truth to the people. Though working for the World Government, Jimbei was also secret allied with the pirate Whitebeard, who as using his considerable influence to protect Fish-Man Island from rampaging pirates. That's why Jimbei fought with Portgas D. Ace, a young pirate who was after Whitebeard. The two nearly killed one another, but Whitebeard arrived and took Ace in as one of his sons.
Jimbei had always planned to kill Arlong if he ever got out of hand, but word only reached him until after Arlong had been captured. He had been paying off local Navy to keep his havoc in the East Blue a secret, but he had already been defeated by Monkey, D Luffy, captain of the Straw Hat Pirates.
Jimbe was is a major character in the One Piece series, that was created by Eiichiro Oda. The series first began serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump on August 4, 1997. Though mentioned during the East Blue Saga , his actual initial appearance wasn't until the the Impel Down Arc that began in Volume 54.
He first appeared in One Piece Volume 54, CH. 528 "Jinbe, King of the Sea", and his first anime appearance was in One Piece - Episode 430 "A Warlord in Prison! Jimbe, the Honorable Pirate!". The role was then taken on by Katsuhisa Hoki, and the U.S. dub produced by FUNimation has yet to announce a voice actor.
Jimbei was the only member of the Warlords who refused to aid the Navy in their coming war with the Whitebeard Pirates. For his refusal, he was stripped of his title and imprisoned in Impel Down's Level 6 with Portgas D Ace, who was now one of Whitebeard's division commanders. The coming war was over his scheduled execution. During their incarceration, Boa Hancock came to see Ace and whispered to him that Luffy, Ace's younger brother, had slipped into the jail to save him.
Luffy arrived too late to prevent Ace's transfer to Marineford, but Luffy freed Jimbei and Sir Crocodile to break out of Impel Down. They fought through the various levels of the prison complex, and Jimebi aided in capturing the Navy Vessel the group used to escape and head for Marineford.
Too late to stop the war's beginning, Jimbei joined Luffy in trying to save Ace from execution. Jimbei fought with Gecko Moria, since he knew the weakness of Moria's zombies; and he helped launch Lufy over the barricades to get closer. Though Ace was freed, he was killed when he shielded the exhausted Luffy from an attack by Admiral Akainu. Luffy had gone catatonic from grief, and Jimbei fought to shield him form Akainu's pursuit. In their attempt to escape, Akainu used his magma powers to pierce through Jimbei and hit Luffy in the chest.
The injured pair were taken aboard the Heart Pirates submarine, to have their injuries treated by Trafalgar Law. Jimbei's wounds were tended to, but Luffy was still in peril. They all met out at sea with Boa Hancock and Emporio Ivankov. They decided to leave for Amazon Lily so Luffy could rest.
Luffy woke up in a rage of grief and sorrow. Jimbei followed Luffy into the island to stop him form hurting himself. It was Jimbei who quelled Luffy's rage to force him to stop concentrating on what he lost and remember what he still had. After carrying Luffy back, they found Silvers Rayleigh waiting for them. He had an idea for the three of them to return to Marienford so reporters could see Luffy and get his picture in the paper, along with the code written on his arm for his crew to see.
Jimbei returned to Fish-Man Island, and promised to meet with Luffy after he completed his tow years of training in the use of Haki with Rayleigh.
A month before Luffy was to arrive, Jimbei ahd learned that Hody Jones was up to something with his New Fish-Man Pirates. Jimbei asked Prince Fukaboshi to pass on a message for Luffy to meet him at the Sea Forest. Luffy arrived with much of his crew and Princess Shirahoshi. Jimbei was finally able to explain Luffy and his crew why he was grateful to them for defeating Arlong, but he was horrified to learn Nami, their navigator, had suffered terribly under Arlong, who murdered her mother. Jimbei offered his life to her, but she forgave him since he wasn't directly involved.
Jimbei had a hard tim explaining why Luffy couldn't fight with Hody, becasue Hody had announced his capture of King Neptune and three of Luffy's crew. Jimbei fought with Luffy to stop him form charging in, but their fight was halted by Nico Robin, who tricked them into knocking each other out. Jimbei then had the opportunity to explain he wanted Luffy to fight along with him using a plan that would make him look like a hero to people. Luffy hid inside the belly of Megalo, but Shirahoshi was captured along with Jimbei and taken to Hody. While held, Hody admitted that he as Otohime's assassin and framed the human he killed to derail Otohime's plan. What Jimbei fond more shocking was that Shirahoshi admitted she knew the whole time.
Luffy jumped out of Megalo's belly just in time to same Neptune, and the rest of the Straw Hats arrived to fight. Jimebi joined with Sanji to fight Wadatsumi, and he asked Nico Robin to free Hody's pirate slaves. Luffy had been seriously injured in his fight with Hody and was need of blood. Jimbei then defied the law of giving blood to humans and offered his own to save Luffy. In turn, Luffy asked Jimebi to join his crew. However, he couldn't accept the offer since he still had his alliance with the Big Mom Pirates to end. Luffy and his crew left for the New World, with the promise Jimbei would join them once he was available.
Jimbei had discovered that the pirate Caribou was trying to abduct mermaids from Mermaid Cove, so he could sell them as slaves. Jimbei easily defeated the pirate, and took him to the Navy base of the G-5, who were notorious for their brutality to pirates.

When they fall, they land in the water, being a problem for fruit users. Jinbe jumps in and saves all fruit users who fell in, saying that they can be a real nuisance. After this Luffy yells "Ace, we've come to save you!". the group begins to move forward. when the group runs into Moria, he lets his zombies attack them. when Jinbei sees this, he uses fishman jujitsu to throw salt water on the zombies, knowing the weakness. Jinbei tells them to move on while he fights Moria. Moria takes the shadows
of the marines, making himself bigger and stronger, and attacks him and tries to take his shadow, but Jinbei deflects the scissors and delivers a great punch to Moria's stomach. When the marines put up great walls and Whitebeards crew is inside, Jinbei comes with Ivankov to look for Luffy, who is very weak after fighting two vice admirals. Jinbe gives Luffy to Ivankov to see if she can help him while he helps the others. When Whitebeard has become weakened, Jinbe joins there crew in protecting him.
