There are a few video game titles that make me prick my ears in anticipation. "Final Fantasy" is one. "Monkey Island" is another. But perhaps the ultimate is Earthbound-- and, by extension, its Japanese title, "Mother." Okay, technically Earthbound is Mother 2, and Mother 3 is its much-vaunted sequel which was never released in the United States. But apparently the team behind Mother 3 is working on a new game for Level 5, and it's called Fantasy Life.
According to Kotaku, the game is a "laid-back RPG" in which you create your character, wander around, make friends, and do odd jobs...but not an MMO, as far as I can tell. As Kotaku puts it, "Sounds like an RPG made up of naught but side quests. Which sounds great!"
It does look ridiculously cute. And I'm a huge huge huge Earthbound fan (it was my first RPG, and I've probably played it through a dozen times now). So I'm going to look out for this one. How about you? <3
