Those of you who watch my userblog already know that one of my favorite TV shows, Leverage-- a sort of Ocean's 11-meets-Robin-Hood procedural on TNT --made a fun Japan reference last week: the characters have to create a back story for Elliott ("the Hitter") as a baseball player, and while doing so they decided to make him big in Japan, complete with goofy energy drink ad.
But that's not the only recent Jpop culture reference on TV: Sunday's episode of American Dad featured Stan (the Dad himself) as a cyborg from the future. He takes Francine out for a date and plays some "Japanese funk" music for her, claiming that it's all the rage in the future. I couldn't find a clip of the bit itself, but here's the PV for the song, "Monochrome Effect," by Jpop band Perfume.
Slowly but surely, we will continue on our quest to dominate American airwaves. MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
