Izumi Curtis is the alchemy teacher of Edward and Alphonse Elric. An incredibly skilled fighter, alchemist, and proud housewife. She lost several organs when she failed to resurrect her unborn child.
Izumi Curtis is an alchemist who trained the Elric brothers, Edward and Alphonse, in the ways of alchemy. She conducted her own training on the mountainous terrain of Briggs, fighting her way to survival, where she also met her future husband, Sig. She then became pregnant, but when her child died during the term of pregnancy she attempted to revive it, but lost several organs in the process.
Izumi was created by Hiromu Arakawa for the manga Fullmetal Alchemist. She was later used in two anime incarnations: Fullmetal Alchemist, the 2003 anime, and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood in 2009. In Japanese, Izumi was played by Shouko Tsuda, and in English she was played by Christine Auten.
Major Story Arc
Izumi Curtis was the woman who initially taught Edward and Alphonse Elric how to further their alchemy, as shown in a flashback. When the Elrics visit her again in Chapter 19, she discovers that they can perform alchemy with a circle, and shames them for performing human transmutations.
She eventually joins the brothers in defeating Father. Although she is, at first, instrumental in the activation of the Amestris-wide transmutation circle, Izumi then aids the brothers in the defeat of Father.
