Itachi Uchiha is a member of the Akatsuki. He slaughtered the entire Uchiha clan, leaving only his younger brother, Sasuke, alive to seek vengeance. In reality he he actually killed them for Konoha's orders as they planning a take over except Sasuke who he loved more than the village.
Itachi Uchiha is the mysterious older brother of Sasuke Uchiha, one of the main characters of the Naruto series. Uchiha Itachi is also responsible for the entire Uchiha Clan extermination, sans Sasuke, his younger brother. He is arguably one of the stronger characters in the series, showing that he was fully capable of toying around with Kakashi Hatake, a character shown to be quite powerful at that point, and Naruto and Sasuke's teacher at the time.
Itachi highly resembles Sasuke in many ways, their hair style is highly similar, albeit Itachi having longer hair, tying it back underneath his neck. The main differentiation between Itachi and his younger brother is the lines that fold down the sides of his face, one of his more distinct facial features. His expressions are generally blank, showing emotion only in few instances, such as a sly smirk when outdoing Kurenai in a genjutsu battle.
Itachi is a member of the Akatsuki, and is signified with this via his cloak, the black and red cloud pattern on it's hem, and purple finger nail polish, which all members use to identify themselves. He's partnered with Kisame Hoshigaki within the Akatsuki, also known as the chakra shark.
Itachi's first appearance in the manga and series is shortly after the Chuunin Exams arc and when the Third Hokage passes away. Before the search for Tsunade with Naruto and Jiraiya begins, Itachi appears in Konoha in disguise with his partner from the Akatsuki. After getting some tea from a local shop in Konoha, he was unable to escape the notice of Kurenai and Asuma, who had just then passed by Kakashi.
After getting the four of them in a much less conspicuous place, Itachi and Kisame revealed themselves via taking off their large straw hats. Asuma introduces who they are to Kurenai, who already acknowledged that they were dangerous, and after proclaiming that Itachi did not wish to fight or kill either of them, Kurenai struck him with Genjutsu. Kisame attacked Asuma, and their fight proceeded, but Itachi was easily able to reflect Kurenais technique that once they came to in reality, she was forced to block a kick coming from him, and even so was still sent flying into the water beyond the bridge. After regaining her balance, she came to the astonishment that Itachi was already standing behind her, and at that moment Kakashi blocked one of Kisame's jutsu sent at Asuma and was able to use a Kage Bunshin to save Kurenai from Itachi.
Kisame noted that he knew who Kakashi was, and Itachi told him not to fight him, as he would waste time fighting him. Kakashi's sigh of relief was stopped as Itachi told him that for himself, however, it was different and that he wouldn't take a bit of time at all. The battle commenced with Kakashi warning the other two professional Jonin not to make eye contact with him, and that so far he hadn't revealed any of his power, or any of his "true" power. Kurenai and Asuma stared at the ground, while holding themselves above water with the typical ninja technique pushing them above the surface. Before they knew it, Kakashi was falling down semi unconscious, directly after revealing his Sharingan to the Uchiha Warrior.
The two jonin had no earthly clue what had happened to the ex Anbu who had just saved them, as Kakashi was the most able shinobi that would have been able to help them at the time. What, in reality, had happened, was the activation of Itachi's extremely powerful genjutsu,
Tsukuyomi, the nightmare dreamscape. When Itachi activated this Kakashi and him were immediately taken to another world, in which was unbreakable by any normal means, where Itachi controlled the ways of that universe. His illusion forced Kakashi into thinking that he was pinned onto a cross and being impaled by hundreds of Itachis with katanas for three days straight, going through intense pain.
After his gen jutsu had been deactivated, it was noted that Itachi's head began to throb. Before the Akatsuki duo were about to finish off their remaining opponents, Maito Gai appeared. Kisame was willing to fight them still, but Itachi noted that they had only come here for one purpose, and that was not to fight a war against Konoha. The two left and they tracked down Naruto in his hotel room that he had just recently been staying at with Jiraiya, the Toad Sage whom was also noted as one of the legendary Sannin. After they got him out of the picture through his biggest weakness (women), they made their way to where the Kyuubi was, sealed inside Uzumaki Naruto's stomach.
They opened they door, with Naruto commenting that he looked a lot like Sasuke, mistaking him for his Uchiha friend at first, but then realized that the two were very different men, as Itachi grabbed his wrist and told him that he would be coming with them. Kisame threatened to chop off his leg if he wanted to run, and that was when Sasuke came into play. From about forty feet down the hall way, Sasuke revealed that he had found him, once and for all, and would kill him. Kisame Hoshigaki noted that the young boy looked very similar to Itachi, and that he also had the Sharingan. Itachi said blatantly that he was his brother, and Kisame noted that he had heard from everyone that the Uchiha Clan had been slaughtered...by Itachi.
Sasuke then shouted out with a battle cry, monologuing a short summary of his life story, and, at the edge of the hallway, activated his new signature technique Kakashi had taught him: Chidori of One Thousand Birds. He charged Itachi, scraping his arm against the wall forcing the friction to increase the power of the technique as he left a line and mark down the entire hall way, only to reach Itachi and have the entire thing negated as his wrist was grasped by his older sibling and he was sent flying back down the hall way with a brutal kick.
Sasuke sat beaten, thinking that the entire time they had not seen eachother, and all he had done to grow strong, the gap had not shrank any. He charged his older brother again, this time without any chakra power behind his fist, just sheer rage, only to be socked in the face by the back of his hand, sending him back down the hallway once more. Itachi walked up to him slowly after he had slunk down into the floor, with his head drooping over his large black collar. As Sasuke lay dazed after the short " fight" Itachi reached and grasped him by his neck, lifting him up to the wall, putting them face to face and whispering to him that he still did not hate him enough for what he had done, and until his hate had grown enough to kill him, he would never be anything special. After this, he sent him through a Tsukuyomi that made him go through seeing the murder of the entire clan once more, and causing him to lose spirit as soon as anyone noticed that anything had happened. He lay watching the ground as Kisame attempted to slash at Naruto, only to be blocked by a toad of the Hermit Sage, Jiraiya, who had just re-entered with the woman that had been put under an illusion by Itachi to distract him under his arm.
Kisame looked at Itachi with wondering eyes as to what they should do, to have Itachi tell tell them to make sure to run away. They started to escape, but were suddenly surrounded in one of Jiraiya's techniques. The floors around them turned into a strange pink hue and the entire area surrounding them became slimy and encased them in the room, to be told by the Hermit Sage that this was the belly of the fire eating toad, and that no one had ever escaped from it before. Itachi began to run towards the end of the hall way while Jiraiya laughed, reminding them that it was useless, only to have Itachi close his eyes for a few seconds, open them again, and unleash the most powerful flames shown thus far in Naruto, Amaterasu , black flames said to be seven times hotter than the sun, bursting through the toad's stomach and skin, allowing them freedom.
Kisame noted that Itachi should definitely rest, as he had really over used his eyes for the day. Itachi closed his eyes as they soared through the sky in death defying leaps, and remained silent. Itachi did not appear for the rest of Part I in character, only in mentions and flash backs.
Itachi's first appearance in Naruto: Shippuden is during the Gaara retrieval/extraction arc. On Naruto's way to the Akatsuki hide out with Sakura, Chiyo, and Kakashi, Itachi appeared to block their path. Kakashi tells Naruto to watch out for Itachi's powerful genjutsu before he tries too do anything in the fight, and Kakashi would distract him. While he said this, Naruto quickly remembered that he had indeed been taught by Jiraiya how to break and counter gen jutsu, but he never wanted anything to do with it. In fact, he ignored the entire idea and thought it was a stupid concept from the beginning. Jiraiya told him that he either had to sever his chakra flow from being poisoned by the illusion, or someone else had to touch him momentarily. Itachi told him that they did not have too much to worry about, as he would not, or more accurately, could not, use the Mangyekou Sharingan at that time. Naruto sent multiple shadow clones to strike him, all of them being destroyed easily. Itachi's crow doppelgangers were enough to suffice every blow that Naruto dished out, eventually trapping him into an illusion of his own, with Naruto thinking about all of his friends he was failing to save, or had failed to be a part of. Kakashi then started attacking Itachi one on one, first dodging one of Itachi's katon techniques, and then being caught by one of Itachi's gen jutsu, only to reveal that it was a shadow clone and that the real Kakashi was under ground awaiting to strike Itachi, but he dodged it with ease in the end.
Itachi was present during the sealing of the Two-Tails.
As Sasuke defeated Orochimaru, Itachi sensed something odd yet assured Kisame that it was nothing. Following Kisame's capture of Son Gokū's jinchūriki, Rōshi, Itachi and Kisame met with the rest of Akatsuki. There, they discovered that Sasuke, after being trained by Orochimaru for two and a half years, had killed his teacher. Sometime after Son Gokū was sealed, Zetsu informed them that Sasuke had been killed by Deidara's C0. However, though asked by Kisame if he was troubled by his brother's death, Itachi remarked that Sasuke is still alive.
Knowing that his end was near, Itachi sent one of his shadow clones to meet Naruto, who was looking for Sasuke. Although he only wanted to talk, Itachi is forced into defending himself as he asks why Naruto cares so much about a traitor like Sasuke. Upon hearing Naruto's intent to bring Sasuke back to Konoha, along with finding a way to stop Sasuke without killing him should he ever attack their village, Itachi smiled and is content with the youth's resolve. He then has one of his crows enter Naruto's body, telling the boy that he hopes he may never need to use it. After his business with Naruto was done, another of Itachi's shadow clones went to meet with Sasuke.
Itachi goes to meet Sasuke in a location unrevealed. Sasuke attempts to kill Itachi but it turns out to be a Shadow Clone. Itachi tells Sasuke to meet him at the Secret Uchiha Hideout where they can finish their fight there. Upon Sasuke's arrival, he immediately attacks Itachi.
Then Sasuke faces off with Itachi who's sitting in a stone chair, with Zetsu secretly watching. They start off with taijutsu where they seem pretty even, Sasuke uses Chidori Current to electrify the floor, forcing Itachi into the air where Sasuke stabs him... but it's not the real Itachi, the real Itachi is still sitting in the chair... then the real Itachi gets stabbed from behind. It turns out that wasn't the real Sasuke either.
Sasuke then starts asking Itachi questions about who the other Mangekyou Sharingan user is that Itachi mentioned all those years ago, and who helped him wipe out the clan... saying he's powerful, but not that powerful. Itachi said it was Madara Uchiha and Sasuke thought he was lying because Madara's supposed to be dead, then Itachi starts explaining the difference between seeing reality and knowing reality. Sasuke then quickly turns behind himself and uses his Chidori Sword, almost striking Itachi in the face... no, Itachi didn't move, the Itachi in the chair that Sasuke stabbed wasn't the real Itachi either, the real Itachi is sitting in a chair BEHIND the one Sasuke stabbed. Zetsu then comments how neither of them have moved an inch since Sasuke walked in, and assumed that they must be having a battle of genjutsu.
Itachi then starts explained through genjutsu about the Mangekyou Sharingan and revealed some of Madara's past, such as creating Akatsuki and hiding in it's shadow and becoming Itachi's teacher. He says that Madara was the first to awaken the Mangekyou Sharingan while competing with his younger brother, then Madara's younger brother did. He then said that Madara was also the first to discover the downside of the Mangekyou Sharingan and went blind. He was then "possessed" by the Mangekyou Sharingan which sought new light and stole his younger brother's eyes and gained a new more powerful Mangekyou Sharingan that would never lose it's "light" and gained a new technique. After this the Uchihas started killing each other trying to also gain the Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan. Madara then took control of many ninja clans and allied with the leader of the Senju clan and they created Konoha.
But years later they had a dispute about leadership and fought, and the leader of the Senju clan became the 1st Hokage.
Itachi then breaks it all down... Sasuke is Itachi's "spare" pair of Sharingan eyes. Itachi had been planning on taking Sasuke's eyes all along. Sasuke then removes the wrapping from his forearms revealing seals, he pulls shurikens out of these seals and throws them at Itachi whom deflects them with his own shurikens. They then grapple each other and Itachi creates a Shadow Clone which throws kunai at Sasuke, a snake however comes out of Sasuke's body and wraps around him, protecting him from the kunais. The two Itachi's regroup and Sasuke unseals a giant shuriken that he throws and the Shadow Clone is destroyed trying to block it, but turns into a flock of crows that distract Sasuke while Itachi kicks him against the wall and holds him there and pulls out Sasuke's left eye and places it in a jar. Itachi then reaches for the right eye but Sasuke uses Curse Seal level 2 and breaks free... literally, it was Tsukiyomi and Sasuke managed to break out of it. Itachi's left eye was then put through a lot of pain from Sasuke breaking free.
One half of Zetsu is in disbelief that Sasuke could break free without having a Mangekyou Sharingan himself, but the other half of Zetsu responded that Sasuke must have mastered the normal Sharing to a point that Itachi hasn't and that an expert with a stone can beat a novice with a shuriken. Itachi then readies to use Amaterasu but Sasuke unseals a giant shuriken from the seal on his arm and throws it, Itachi ducks under it but realizes that there's another hidden in the top one's shadow and leaps between the two. They're rigged however and Sasuke, by pulling on a string attached to them, makes the blades shoot in all different directions, one of which hits Itachi in the leg. Sasuke uses the Grand Fireball and Itachi leaps out of the way, Sasuke follows and Itachi then counters with his own Grand Fireball, but Sasuke partially transforms into his level 2 form and blocks with his wing. They then square off and both use Grand Fireball. Itachi's losing the struggle and finally uses Amaterasu which starts engulfing Sasuke's fireball.
Amaterasu stops after devouring Sasuke's technique, Sasuke then runs to avoid Itachi's next attempt. However, Itachi makes Amaterasu chase Sasuke until it finally touches his wing, Saskue collapses on the ground where his body is burning. Now blind in his right eye, Itachi goes to retrieve his "prize," but Sasuke's body shrivels up; it's revealed that Sasuke used his Chidori to break a whole on the roof and used Orochimaru's skin shedding technique and slide down to the surface below. That technique gave Sasuke a completely new body unharmed by Amaterasu, however it depleted a great deal of chakra.
Having walked into Sasuke's trap, he unleashes three Great Dragon Fireballs from beneath Itachi. Itachi avoids the first two but the third one burns his arm and they ascend into the clouds which begin to churn and turn dark. Though Sasuke is nearly out of chakra, he tried to miss on purpose, using Itachi's Amaterasu combined with his own technique to create a hot updraft to form storm clouds. Then by using his chakra, Sasuke guides a naturally occurring lightning bolt towards Itachi which strikes him.
Sasuke believes that he has won, however an almost completely blind Itachi stands up and is shown standing in the center of a giant spectral skeleton's ribcage. He says that he would had died, but now it's time to use his final technique, "Susanoo." Itachi explains that Susanoo can be released after using both Tsukiyomi and Amaterasu and the skeleton surrounding Itachi starts to take a humanoid appearance. Orochimaru starts to whisper in Sasuke's head, telling him that he can help Sasule exact his revenge. A white snake appears from Sasuke's shoulder and he transforms into a giant eight-headed snake. He attacks Itachi, but Susanoo forms a sword from a gourd that he's holding and chops off each of the snake's heads in the struggle.
Orochimaru emerges from the snake's last head, declaring that he's going to take Sasuke's body and kill Itachi, but he is struck through the chest by Susanoo's sword. Orochimaru laughed saying that such an attack couldn't kill him... but then he recognized the sword; it was a sword he had been searching for called Totsuka no Tsurugi, a sword that has sealing properties which traps the victim. The blade stabbing Orochimaru envelopes him and pulls both him and his snakes into the gourd. Zetsu mentioned that it was no wonder Orochimaru couldn't find the Totsuka. Itachi then makes his way to Sasuke who's on the ground. As Susanoo finishes absorbing Orochimaru, some of the white snakes escaped and slithered away.
Itachi then begins to walk over to Sasuke, but coughs blood and grabs his chest in pain while Susanoo starts to fade; Zetsu comments that Susanoo is not without it's drawbacks. Seeing this as an opening, Sasuke attacks with multiple explosive kunai's, but Susanoo blocks them with his shield. Sasuke unseals several explosive kunais from a scroll and throws them at Itachi, but Susanoo once again blocks them with his shield. Zetsu comments that he recognizes Susanoo's shield as the Yata mirror, one of the three sacred treasures which deflects whatever hits it. Sasuke charges at Itachi with his sword, but to no avail.
Itachi slowly crept up to Sasuke, looking like he was in a zombie state, craving Sasuke's eyes. He looked at him, tired and worn from using every powerful Kekkai Genkai he had. Itachi slowly reached forward with his blood covered right hand towards Sasuke's face... Itachi tapped his forehead, the blood covered finger slowly dragged itself down Sasuke's face as he collapsed. Sasuke looked into the sky, sweating and heaving, as the pride of the Uchiha clan lay dead next to him.
To Sasuke's disbelief, it would later be revealed by Tobi, aka Madara Uchiha, that Itachi, in all of his dark deeds and ways, had actually done all of these seeming crimes to keep Sasuke safe. As it would turn out, when Itachi poked Sasuke in his forehead, seconds before his death, he had transferred the techniques of his Mangyeko eyes. Sasuke, of course, did not believe him at all, and went into a state of rage and confusion, saying that there was no earthly way that he would have done that.
The proof of it all was that when Sasuke saw Tobi's Sharingan that Itachi's Amaterasu would activate, engulfing Madara in its black flame.
Madara would then reveal that Itachi was actually a man who had risked it all into saving the Leaf Village. Sasuke continued to listen to Tobi's story, and eventually came to his senses that the man was telling the truth, despite how insane he came off as being. Madara continued to explain that yes, while the prodigal son of the Uchiha Clan had indeed killed his entire clan in that one night, he had done due to orders of Konoha. Sasuke found that this was a highly unlikely aspect of Itachi, and, as he remembered Itachi all of those years, he questioned how this could have been the brother he'd known.
Tobi told him to think of all of the times he'd had with his kind, big brother, and he could remember them being children and the smiles he'd had. He thought of how he'd tried to take his eyes, and then saw black. Madara explained that he believed that Itachi had implanted his Amaterasu into sasuke so that the two would never meet, and told him that while he had no proof, he should still listen to his story, as only three people knew about Itachi's truth, and they'd never spill it out of them. He told him that he'd have to start from the beginning for Sasuke to understand, and then proceeded to tell him of the long history of the Uchiha Clan and their rivals, the Senju clan of the forest. Madara went on to explain how eventually, the Uchiha lost to the many people of the Senju clan, and how he had taken his brothers eyes to save the Uchiha Clan, as there were no great warriors anymore to fight back, and his brother even agreed to give up his eyes. But the Senju clan would offer and alliance with the Uchiha, which Madara uneasily accepted at the request of his clan. Together they formed konohagakure ( Hidden Leaf Village ), but the leader of the Senju was appointed Hokage and Madara was worried about their once greatest enemies being in power and apposed him or leadership, though he was betrayed, the Uchihas saying that he had taken his little brother's eyes for his own sake, not the sake of the clans itself. He sought revenge and attacked the village, but was defeated. The Senju however didn't trust the Uchiha and this lead to problems, then the Uchihas were blamed for the Kyuubi attack 16 years ago which lead to Sasuke's and Itachi's father planning to take over the village. Itachi was supposed to be his father's spy in the Anbu, but secretly gave away the Uchiha's secrets. He was against the coup and was ordered by the village elders to eliminate the Uchiha before their actions bring about a 4th ninja war and destroy Konoha. Itachi sought out Madara for help in the massacre and made him promise not to harm the rest of the village in return for his chance at revenge against the Uchiha. Afterwards, Itachi begged the 3rd Hokage to protect Sasuke and then left the village and joined Akatsuki to keep an eye on them.
Madara then revealed that the entire reason for Itachi's return after the Third Hokage's death was to prove that he was still alive so Sasuke wouldn't be harmed, and that he was slowly dying of a disease. His love for Sasuke had been incomparable as he had died smiling, even after he was repaid for his love with hatred, and his honor for dishonor and more hatred, believing Sasuke to be worth more than Konoha. When Sasuke accused Madara of lying to him, and trying to cloud his mind, he told him that he was still alive. An interesting and true fact was that he was still alive, and also that Itachi had planned the entire fight out before it even happened. Forcing Sasuke to purge Orochimaru and trying to make Sasuke open his mangekyou sharingan eyes on that day, and him killing Itachi made him the avenger of his clan so he'd return to Konoha as a hero. All in all, Itachi had simply been alive for Sasuke's benefit, causing him to go into an emotional rage and putting him into a state of confusion. He would then after decide that now, rather than avenge his clan with Itachi's method, he would regroup team Hebi, changing the name to team Taka, and ally with Akatsuki. Then after finally attaining a Mangekyou Sharingan of his own, vowed to crush Konohagakure.
In Naruto Chapter 403: Tears, Naruto is shown to have a flash back of what Itachi had said to him when they met the one time they did in a forest, when he was alone. Itachi had asked him why he didn't run, and Naruto said that running from him would mean that he couldn't capture him, and that this would mean that he wouldn't be able to find Sasuke. When Itachi asked him why he was so concerned with his brother, a missing ninja, Naruto told him that he considered Sasuke more of a brother than Itachi ever had. Hearing the statement, he grinned and as the young blonde boy charged him he raised his arm, opening his cloak and multiple ravens flew from out of it.
Naruto was stopped by the oncoming attack, and Itachi told him once more that all he wanted to do was talk to him. He told Naruto that he knew that he wanted him to bring Sasuke home, but wondered what he would do if he didn't want to go. His reply to that question was "I'll do whatever it takes to bring Sasuke home". After hearing that, he then asked him what he would do if he heard that Sasuke was attacking Konohagakure. Naruto said that he knew Sasuke, and that he would never do something like that at all, and then questioned what Itachi meant, Itachi said that Sasuke was still "pure" and could be affected and taught anything.
After he asked him if he could weigh Sasuke's life against the village, Naruto became angery, talking about how he would find some way to save the village without hurting Sasuke. When he said this, Itachi responded that he was still far too childish, and that he spoke of nothing but "pipe dreams" while others still had to make painful choices, referring to himself, though Naruto didn't know it. In truth, the entire conversation had been revolving around whether or not Naruto could succeed where he failed, and save Konoha from imminent destruction by killing him. Then Naruto told him that someone else had said the exact same thing before, but that there was no choice, and that he wouldn't bend his words, because that was what being a ninja meant to him. After hearing that, Itachi couldn't help but smile, and then, to Naruto's surprise, a raven flew straight into his mouth and Itachi told him that he had just given him some of his power, and that he hoped he had never had to use it.
In an attempt to both impede Tobi and coerce him into joining forces during their initial encounter, Kabuto Yakushi demonstrated his capabilities by reincarnating many of the deceased members of Akatsuki, including Itachi, using Summoning: Impure World Reincarnation.
When the Fourth Shinobi World War against the Allied Shinobi Forces commenced, Itachi was mobilised alongside Kakuzu and Nagato who due to being crippled was being carried by Kakuzu. Later supporting the latter as they walked, the now isolated pair continued throughout the night, conversing about Akatsuki. Itachi remarked that their two dōjutsu together could achieve anything which was likely why their summoner would wait for the opportune moment to use their abilities. After pausing at a shrine and discussing Kabuto's influence on Tobi's plan, they marched onwards until they encountered Naruto Uzumaki and Killer B.
Surprised by Naruto's growth and the fact that he had subjugated the Nine-Tails, Itachi attempted to ask him something, but he instead attacked the pair involuntarily with his Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique. He discerned Kisame's death from B's possession of Samehada, and while exchanging both dialogue and blows with Naruto, was shocked and disappointed to learn of his brother's decision to destroy Konoha, and Tobi's awareness of the truth behind the Uchiha clan massacre. Imploring Naruto to keep the truth secret for the sake of his clan's honour, he then entrusted dealing with Sasuke to him. As Itachi confronted B, he caught him in a genjutsu after using his Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Flower Nail Crimson technique to attack him. However, fending off several attacks, he retreated atop Nagato's summon and activated his Mangekyō Sharingan. Much to Naruto's shock, the crow Itachi had placed inside him during their last encounter emerged.
As Itachi and the crow's eyes met, Itachi readied Amaterasu. However, instead of hitting Naruto, it had hit Nagato's other summon. Freed from Kabuto's control, Itachi turned to Nagato and engulfed him in black flames, before leaping towards Naruto. Itachi explained how he had implanted Shisui's eye into the crow, rigged it to use Kotoamatsukami with the command "protect Konoha" on whoever used his dōjutsu. This was originally meant for Sasuke in case he attacked Konoha with the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, overrode Kabuto's control over himself instead. Asked by B why he didn't just use Kotoamatsukami on Sasuke from the beginning, Itachi revealed that he had other intentions and that excluding augmentations, such as Hashirama Senju's DNA, Shisui's Mangekyō would take a decade to regenerate after using Kotoamatsukami. Itachi, along with Naruto and B, was then assaulted by a regenerated Nagato.
As Naruto and B fought Nagato directly, Itachi blinded both the King of Hell and the chameleon summon with a barrage of kunai. This allowed him to move undetected and free both jinchūriki from danger with his incomplete Susanoo. In response, Nagato used Chibaku Tensei in an attempt to lift and crush them with gravity. After careful analysis, Itachi surmised that attacking the sphere at the centre of the technique would effectively dispel it, so he proposed that they take advantage of Chibaku Tensei's attraction force to gravitate their strongest long-range techniques directly towards it. Using Yasaka Magatama in combination with the others' attacks, they confirmed his assumption and the sphere was broken. Before the dust settles, Itachi impaled Nagato with his Sword of Totsuka and asked Nagato to impart any final words before the sword sealed him.
Throughout the series, Itachi carries the same countenance for the most part, bearing an expression of blatant disinterest in whatever he was doing. This helped him in combat, never being deciphered via emotions that drove him to do battle. He was calm and silent for the most part, until his final bout with Sasuke, in which he revealed he kept him alive only to take his eyes, and that all Uchiha brothers were each others spares, the ultimate bond between them. This was proven a lie later by Madara, who has currently taken Sasuke under his wing.
Early on during the first part of Naruto it is stated the Itachi possesses the Mangekyou Sharingan. An evolved form of the ordinary Sharingan that grants its user Far More power. However the only way to acquire it is to killyour closest friend. Something Itachi did willingly to acquire its power, he was even questioned by his fellow Uchiha clan members as to why his closest friend would commit suicide. Just as a fight seemed inevitable betweenhim and the Uchiha police when his father stopped the fight immediately. As Sasuke went inside the house after over hearing the confrontation he oversaw Itachi's Sharingan morph for the first time. Using its power along with his accomplice Uchiha Madara Itachi anihilated his own village. Itachi then told Sasuke to look under the secret meeting place where he would find a scroll containing the secrets of the Mangekyou Sharingan. In the scroll Sasuke found out that Mangekyou Sharingan holds the power to tame the Nine Tailed Fox. Along with that ability Itachi's Mangekyou is also capable of performing Amateratsu an S class techniquethat burns everything, anthing the eye focuses on with a black fire said to be hotter then the sun. The Tsukuyomi is also another S class technique Itachi possesses due to his evolved Sharingan, rather then a physical attack the Tsukuyomi isa genjutsu, and is considered to be the most powerful genjutsu. Itachi's final ability when combining the power of both of his Sharingans is he is able to summon Susanoo. Susanoo is a spectral like being that surrounds Itachi and offers him defense as well as offense. It is said the technique cant be beat as it has no corporal form to destroy. However even though these techniques are power they take a strain on Itachi's body and speed up the process of blindness caused by awakening hi Mangekyou Sharingan. There is only one way for a person with the Mangekyou to prevent loosing their sight and that is to rob their sibling with a sharinga of their eyes and replace the old eyes with the newly acquired eyes. By doing this the blindness will never return and another power is said to be unlocked. Itachi attempted to steal Sasuke's eyes to prevent from going blind but by usng all of the three listed techniques his body gave in and he died.
