Iroh

Origin

Iroh is a very powerful firebender from the Fire Nation. He is also apart of the Royal Family, son of Azulon and brother of Ozai. He grew up in the capital city of the Fire Nation as his reputation exceeded him as the last man to kill dragons in the world. Doing his family proud, he went off to fight in the war as his army was the closest any came before it to taking the Earth Kingdom capital city Ba Sing Se. Tragedy struck in the form of his only son, Lu Ten, dying in the middle of battle which causes Iroh to reasses his life. He found his way into the Spirit World as well as became a member of the Order of the White Lotus on his way back home. However, by the time he got back, he found that his father was dead and his right to the throne has been overruled by his brother. Soon after, his nephew Zuko was challenged to Agni Kai by a general for disagreeing with him. Iroh watched as Ozai struck his son, scarring him for life as he banished Zuko to look for the Avatar as Iroh accompanied him as his mentor.

Creation

Iroh was created by Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino for the series Avatar: The Last Airbender in the Avatar franchise. He makes his first appearance in Episode 1: The Boy in the Iceberg. Iroh is voiced by in the Mako in Seasons 1 and 2 and Greg Baldin in Season 3 (due to Mako's death) in the English version and was portrayed by Shaun Toub in the live action film.
