Also known as resurrection. This is when a previously dead character is restored back to life.

Bath Scene

One of the most common forms of fanservice in all anime. Bath scenes can show bonding between characters, but are more often used as just an excuse to exploit a female character.

Brother and Sister

A male and a female member of a family that share the same parents.

Brothers

Male characters that share the same parents.

Curse

A long-lasting spell that causes negative results to the cursed one and sometimes those around him/her.

Dark Side

Not to be confused with "Evil Twin" which is a completely different person who is an evil version of a character, the Dark Side is an internal evil persona of a character. It is often seen as a figure that must be defeated to gain control over one's own body and gain extra powers.

Demon

Are powerful creatures that live in the pits of Hell. That are many classes and levels for these monsters but no matter the rank they are deadly beasts.

Dismemberment

The loss of limbs and body parts is a common concept in many of the more violent Japanese manga and anime.

Dragon

A legendary creature that is typically reptilian, that can fly and can breathe fire and sometimes ice.

Dreams and Nightmares

The imaginary events that goes on in your head when you are asleep. In some anime's they can bring important messages or to haunt a person.

Flashback

Used frequently in Anime to either recap past events or provide a back story for a character, either their origin story or their off-screen training of new attack. Sometime and entire episode/chapter would be a entire flashback.

Folklore

A concept used to describe characters who are based on myths, legends, and even religion.

Ghost

A ghost is a dead persons spirit that roams the earth usually attached to where they died or refusing to go to the after life until there are finished on earth.

Hybrids

Hybrid characters are often a mixture of different background that are normally thought to be in opposition. These are mostly seen as a mixture of humans with either aliens, spirits, or demons.

Kitsune

A Japanese word for Fox. Kitsunes are also mythological creatures in Japanese legends. The most prominent feature around Kitsunes are their ability to shapeshift and play tricks on people.

Major death

Death of a major character.

Monk

A religious person who lives either alone or in a holy place sutch as a temple or a church. Most of them tries to avoid worldy pleasures and to bring good to the world.

Murder

The act of taking another person's life.

Possession

The act of controling an individual, making him preform actions at your will.

Prince

A male heir to a royal throne.

Princess

A female heir to a royal throne.

Reincarnation

Reincarnation is a common theme in most Asian literature, and frequently a character will appear who turns out to be the reincarnation of a past figure (fictional or otherwise).

Romantic Drama

Romantic Drama is a concept used in series to create tensions of highs and lows in order to leave the audience in suspense over an outcome in a romance based series.

Shikigami

A kind of spirit summoned to serve a practitioner of onmyōdō.

The Band of Seven

A group of cold-blooded killers who act as mercenaries, but truly crave death and destruction over money and power.

Time Travel

The ability to travel from one era to another, forward and/or backward.

Witches

A female sorcerer or magician.
