Why do Anime Guys get off being called "Onii-Chan"?!

Because of some developments in Sword Art Online and some crazy experiences in the anime world, I was inspired to make this blog. Onii-chan and the incest thing are a hot yet creepy concept in anime. They serve as comedic scenes. I'm going to leave out the incest part for today.

Here's my question of the day for y'all.

Why do guys enjoy being called Onii-chan?

I have four videos as examples.

Clannad

I'm not familiar with this show, but when you search Onii-chan on Youtube, it's the first and best example I found.

Here's the English version. Notice how the feeling of endearment and nauseating cuteness has disappeared. The Onii-chan business is better executed in the Japanese version. This cultural thing (more like fetish) doesn't really exist in the American culture.

Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka?

High school student Ayumu Aikawa is murdered after being fatally stabbed in the back by a serial killer. Thanks to necromancer Eucliwood Hellsythe, however, he is resurrected as a zombie. Grateful to his savior, Ayumu invites her to reside with him in his house and continue his everyday life.

Trying to take advantage of his undead life by hunting for his serial killer at night, Ayumu meets a demon-hunting, chainsaw-wielding self-proclaimed "masou-shoujou" (Japanese pun on magical girl) named Haruna. After this fated encounter in which Ayumu accidentally gets cut in half and Haruna inadvertently dematerializes her clothes while trying to magically heal him, Haruna also moves in to Ayumu's residence. Zombie Ayumu's high school life is never quite the same as it used to be.

Next up is an anime series that I somehow fell in love with during my Anime Vice years. I can't remember how I got into it. It's must have been Daniel or Sotyfan16 who recommended to me since I'm not normally into shows with fan service. I'm more of Shonen fan.

It's too bad that the first video has no subs, and it has a lot of clips. Eucliwood is the embodiment of Ayumu's fantasies, and she's god damn irresistibly cute. He loves being called Onii-chan.

He even tried to force Seraphim to call him that. Though, he failed.

It's hard to explains why. This is my best guess.

Some guys have a sister complex (if that's the right word), and they enjoy being the big brother to a cute girl. It provokes a Moe reaction inside them.

I remember sickVisionz telling me why, but I forgot what he told on some thread.

I did this blog because I was bored with wiki editing. You know me.

Sister fetishes.  Consider it a similar reason to why non-blood related brother sister romance pairings are so obnoxiously common in doujins.

@Turambar: @Elfenlied1012:

Incest and not an incest but brotherly sister fetish are weird. Thanks for your input. There are some crazy folks out there.

It's a cultural thing I suppose. But I always find it a little creepy. Most of the times anyway. Sometimes I actually think it is funny and cute. But that rarely happens.

Like what ComicMan24 said it a cultural thing

Anyway I also roll my eye at it (I do love how Persona 4 Arena handle it LOL!)

@Destinyheroknight:

Oh god, Yu is voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch (known for voicing Ichigo of Bleach). The video was funny. I always thought using honorifics besides Sensei in English dub sounded funny. I'm not used to it. It doesn't sound right.

@takashichea:

Also, he was the Black Power Ranger and Vash The Stampede :)

I do agree with you about that, it just sound so unnatural in English.

Want incest done right, check out Koi Kaze. Otherwise, the otaku pandering crap is a waste of time with how it treats the taboo for either perverted material or some kind of cheesy melodrama.

@Dream:

This blog and question is a random idea I had. I knew I wouldn't get any straight answers when I was forming my own.
