Missed this one at Kotaku-- credit to the FUNimation blog for spotting it! Kotaku reports that Valcon Games was originally planning to bring the game Ikki Tousen: Shining Dragon to North America, only to have the game earn an “M” rating. The publisher decided not to bring the game over-- presumably because while the under-18 crowd would love an anime game with girls whose clothes kept getting torn off, they're more likely to have to pirate it than be able to buy it at stores these days.

That said, it's nice to see that the company knows what it's doing. Co-founder Colin Goron is quoted as saying: “We could remove all the stuff that makes it an M-rated game, but then we don't think the customers would be very happy buying an Ikki Tousen game without all the shredded clothing.”

You're a good man, Colin Goron, and otaku who demand the integrity of their, um, ripped clothes thank you.

This is why I can't stand the American video game market. Won't release more games will you? No surprise at all.

and the ESRB allowed DOA: Extreme Beach Volleyball and Grand Theft Auto 3 without looking for "Hot Coffee".
