Howl is the handsome protagonist of the film Howl's Moving Castle. He is a powerful wizard and immensely clever. Initially, he appears self-absorbed, but he is revealed to have a soft-heart.

Sophie is a young girl and hat maker. She stands up to the Witch of the Waste and consequently gets cursed. She is made to look and feel like an old woman. She becomes Howl's "housekeeper" and ends up falling in love with him.
