Naturally created hot baths. People usually bathe in them wearing a towel or nothing at all, they are popular in Japan.

Hot Springs are a naturally occurring spring of water that are heated through a geothermal vents in the ground. They can be found on every continent on Earth. The temperatures can vary from  97 °F to over 99 °F. 
 
The island nation of Japan has many volcanic vents since it runs along the segment circling the Pacific Ocean called The Ring of Fire. So named due to the amount of volcanoes that ring the area.
 

Therapeutic Use

The warm temperatures of the hot spring allows the water to hold and distribute a variety of minerals. Hot Springs are often considered popular vacation spots due to the folklore of their medicinal properties. They can be found with spas and certain clinics.
 

In Anime/Manga

A hot spring can often be seen in many anime/manga. Often used as an excuse for a series to have fanservice scenes. Not to mention convenient censorship of steam covering the nude bodies.
 

Love Hina

The Love Hina series from the the creator Ken Akamatsu is based around a hotel that was constructed around a natural hot spring. The Hina Hotel. The hotel was changed to a to a female dormitory for girl's attending school or employment. The anime is a popular in the Harem series.
 

Naruto

A hot spring was shown in series Naruto just before the end of the Chunin Exams Finals.This was where he met Jiraiya. Originally thinking he was just some perverted old man who was peaking at the nude bodies of the women within. It turned out that he was one of the three most famous ninja of the Konoha Village.
