Horohoro is a man with a skeleton body that is missing many bones. He lives on the Planet That Sings Songs of Yesteryear where he sells eggs in hopes of earning enough money to buy back his girlfriend.
Horohoro and his girlfriend were born and raised on the Planet That Sings Songs of Yesteryear. One day, she decided to leave the planet in search of a better life while Horohoro stayed behind. After she found a better job elsewhere, she forgot about Horohoro and betrayed him by dating other men. For every betrayal, Horohoro lost a bone in his body, leaving him in his current state.
Horohoro is a character in the Galaxy Express 999 series, which was created by Leiji Matsumoto, who is popular for the Captain Harlock franchise and it's related series. He makes his first appearance in Episode #26 "The Skeleton Song". In the anime series his design and creation are credited to Shingo Araki and Shigeru Kogawa respectively.
Horohoro, with his body fully hidden under clothes, meets Tetsuro when Tetsuro inquires about some eggs that he is selling. After being invited to Tetsuro's room the two begin to chat about life on the planet and Horohoro's girlfriend. Tetsuro asks him to remove his coat, but is frightened by his skeleton form. Maetel enters the room, with her gun drawn, and asks him to leave, which he agrees to. Later that night, Tetsuro seeks out Horohoro and tells him that he saw his girlfriend with another man. Horohoro becomes enraged and swears to kill them. Tetsuro tries to stop him but is knocked unconscious and left at a train station with a basket full of eggs. Later, Horohoro, disguised as Tetsuro, visits the room of his girlfriend and murders her and her boyfriend. He retreats back to his home, leaving Tetsuro to take the fall for the murders.
