Hitagi Senjogahara

Origin

In her first year of high school she encountered a mysterious crab who cursed her with weightlessness. Since then she withdrew herself from all school activities and her friends living a lonely existance. After a health scare where Hitagi almost dies her mother turns to a Cult, spending all the family money in an effort to have her cured. Hitagi's mother would later leave the family which left Hitagi's father to deal with the large debt. She actually started to opened up to Koyomi after he learned her secret and her threats and abuse didn't run him off.

Creation

Major Story Arcs

Hitagi's mysterious "disease" is discovered by Koyomi in the most unusual way: he sees her falling down from above. After rescuing her, Koyomi realizes she is almost weightless. Later she threatens him with a stapler, telling Koyomi that he cannot mention her secret.

Koyomi decides to help her despite Hitagi stapling his face, and he takes her to meet Meme Oshino, who tells her that she has been attacked by a crab god. She must come back at midnight after having a shower and wearing clean clothes.

Since the crab is a god, they must pray to him. During the ritual, Meme asks her several questions, and it is revealed that Hitagi's mother belonged to a cult, and one of the higher members tried to rape her. Her mother did not help her and she defended herself with a spiked shoe. Since then, she never saw her mother again and she lives with her father. She feels guilty because she thinks she is the cause of her parents' divorce.

After telling her story, the crab god appears to her, but not to Koyomi and Meme. Hitagi is shocked and is unable to speak to him; the crab god smashes her against a wall but Meme pulls him away from her. After overcoming the initial shock, Hitagi begs the crab god to give her her weight and the memories about her mother back, despite the fact her family will never be together again.

After this, Hitagi and Koyomi become friends, and during the Mayoi storyline she realizes she is in love with him (and so is Koyomi). Later they become a couple.

Personality

As the story progresses, it is revealed that despite her apparent coldness and harshness towards some people, Hitagi is a kind-hearted, loyal (and even sweet) person.
